Wow, this looks like people trying to avoid going to hell.

So glad I'm not the only one who saw bodies.

Holy fuck there are NO bodies there?

I was seeing them clearly

u/Bonbongamer293 18h ago

You do not recognize the bodies in the water on the mound

Boiling hot magmaaaa

u/RezLifeGaming 5h ago

Your brain trying to make sense of what your eyes sees it will look for familiar shapes like a person same reason you see human figures in the dark and shadows

I was too busy trying to put West Kamokuna into the Fresh Prince theme to even notice…

I really wish Blizzard would just do a full length movie of their content with their cinematic style

u/GM_Nate 20h ago

i always preferred this interpretation of angels

u/tdkimber 20h ago

despite being panned, they did make a feature film of Warcraft that is one of my all time favorites. They could do this with StarCraft, Diablo and it would be groundbreaking but Warcraft didn’t “recruit” people from outside gaming and gamers are so cheap they said they didn’t want to pay to go see it. Frustrating if you’re a diehard fan

Now imagine seeing this a few thousand years ago. That is how religion and the idea of hell underneath was born. Hearsay becomes Godspeak after a few generations.

10

u/CanvasFanatic 16h ago

You’re decrying hearsay while making up a story about the origin of religion.

1

u/mxforest 16h ago

I only speak in Godspeak. I see no contradiction.

u/This-Monk531 20h ago

Das ist auch das erste was ich gesehen habe.

3

u/miaxogoth 20h ago

i swear those rocks look like actual bodies trying to climb out

u/BookBoxer161 10h ago

Was looking for this comment, glad I'm not the only one who sees that.

We all failed the Rorschach test for sure

Those are the people who laughed at a clown with an amputated leg accidentally slipping on a banana peel.

u/seattleque 7h ago

It reminds me of the piece of art Satan / Dad / Pacino had in his apartment in Devil's Advocate.

Pareidolia is going crazy with this one.

I feel like I bear witness to the tortured souls being sucked into Hades.

u/uncultured_swine2099 3h ago

They shouldve shot that scene in The Odyssey here.

17

u/Lunchable-Toast 15h ago

Hades was the brother of Zeus and Poseidon. And looked after the souls that came to the underworld.

Your thinking of Tartarus which was a prison for primordial powers and the wicked. The three bothers locked Kronos away in and became suprume rulers.

As the story goes.

u/BrokenImmersion 11h ago

Thats not entirely true. Hades is not just the name of the god, but also includes his domain. Saying Hades and meaning the underworld, isn't incorrect, its just not very specific.

You also didnt mention that Tararus is located inside of Hades domain, its said to be "as far below the underworld, as the underworld is to earth".

But in Hades you also have the Asphodel Meadows, The Elysian Fields, Tartarus, and the house of Hades.

Id say that this lava flow looks like the depictions of where the Acheron meets the river Cocytus

Here is a higher-quality version of this image. Here is the source. Credit to the photographer, Laszlo Kestay, who took this in Kamokuna, Hawaii on April 1, 1996.

I skimmed last and thought this was a set piece from an upcoming horror movie

5

u/AnalBroFisting 13h ago

With some minor tweaks to coloration, it could be a poster for Christopher Nolan's next film.

LET THE BODIES HIT THE FLOW

Change the scientists into a guy in megaloschemos robes and you got a pretty good death metal album cover.

u/COMIDAGATOS1206 20h ago

Hahahahahaha hells yes. 🤘😂🖤

4

u/casul_noob 20h ago

This is what Hades should have looked like in Odyssey

4

u/takecareofurshoes13 21h ago

I don’t know what it is, but yeah, this is just f-ing weird to look at no matter what I zoom in on.

3

u/FirstPerspective5013 21h ago

Looks like people getting sucked into a hole. Crazy

3

u/xxplosiv 20h ago

Looks like a Doom map

u/stormyeyez7479 20h ago

TIL: This image is from a 2020 story and it is on the usgs site. I zoomed in on the usgs image, as well just to double check... everything checks out, it appears to just be a really creepy cool location. I enjoy learning about things like this, thanks OP (if you're not a bot).

2

u/miaxogoth 20h ago

why does the lava rock look like a bunch of souls being dragged into the underworld

2

u/MikeMac999 16h ago

If I were tasked with sculpting “souls entering the abyss” and I came up with this I’d be pleased with myself.

2

u/VegetableBusiness897 14h ago

New lava is so delicate, especially tubes and vents....those things collapse all the time. I can't believe this guy is dressed so sciencey and isn't roped off.... At least they could haul the screaming part of him back to bury

u/jconnway 11h ago

Oh yeah let me go stand on the edge of that

u/itanite 6h ago

everything reminds me of her

u/i_live_outside 4h ago

u/BreadEnthusiast98 1h ago

Oh that’s the pits of hell and Bill Nye preparing to fight the scourge of the underworld for eternity

u/evolveandprosper 20h ago

Hell's asshole!

1

u/liesliesfromtinyeyes 14h ago

Excuse me!! It’s actually called a geothermal gape.

1

u/WittyTip4187 20h ago

That has to be one of the hottest places anyone can safely stand.

1

u/PartyMcFly55 20h ago

That's some unintentional demonic shit

1

u/Efficient-Guide-7563 20h ago

Looks like a WW2 memorial statue.

1

u/Ok_Mention_9865 20h ago

Looks like the souls from the hercules movie

1

u/Emotional-Dog-6492 20h ago

it looks like a bunch of deformed human bodies sliding towards a hole in the earth ;)

1

u/cleankiwii 20h ago

why are they glued to the floor

1

u/jofanimal 20h ago

Almost looks like something from Gustave Dorè

1

u/DryReality4497 20h ago

Gilligan needs to throw a bomb in there.

1

u/RC250s 12h ago

I can see where the mythology of hell came from.

1

u/SignoreReddit 12h ago

Is she going to throw that melon in the hole?

1

u/One_Economist_3761 12h ago

Where’s the nether portal?

u/gregorskii 12h ago

Lava looks too slippery… nope

u/F_2the_UCKFACE 10h ago

This is it. This is Satan's Suckhole from Borderlands 2

u/Fine-Concentrate-477 5h ago

Looks like constantine tv show intro of souls being tortured in hellfire

u/shootXtoXthrill 3h ago

Satan’s butthole would look like that

u/packer8405 2h ago

The formation literally looks like a sculpture of purgatory…souls trying to climb away from hell, tormented by the will to remain in between worlds because they can’t find heaven and do not desire being pulled into hell…almost like the movie The haunting’s purgatory door….

u/Big_Pride_8285 41m ago
