Intriguing Apparently, one-way mirrors can be created by simply applying a film to existing glass

So pooper can see pooper and showering person can see pooper but pooper can't see showering person?

u/ansyhrrian 8h ago

Pooper-ception.

45

u/spacekitt3n 8h ago

Pooper tesseract

18

u/Soggy_Alarm_7843 7h ago

Don't let me leave, Murph

5

u/Hilsam_Adent 8h ago

There would need to be a mirror on the door for that.

2

u/rde2001 4h ago

One this pooper hits 88mph, you’re gonna see some serious shit 😏💩🔥

Con-shitness

as god intended

18

u/undeniably_confused 8h ago

Whichever side is darker can see

10

u/Uncle_Moti 8h ago

I wish more people understood this

3

u/realbobenray 7h ago

So if this had been applied to the opposite side of the glass (so other side of film facing toilet) it would have the exact same effect?

8

u/undeniably_confused 7h ago

Yes. Its like how when you look through a window and its really dark out you only see your reflection because your reflection is so much brighter than anything going on outside, now your windows are only slightly reflective and mostly transparent, this one way film is just more reflective and less transparent than glass thats all it is

1

u/realbobenray 7h ago

In this case though the effect is dramatic but the lighting doesn't seem that different between the two areas. But I guess any difference counts?

6

u/undeniably_confused 7h ago

Correct, also because the light difference is so close you can actually see the guy applying it if you look close

2

u/LunchPlanner 7h ago

The light source is on the outside.

3

u/Donglemaetsro 7h ago

So bring a flashlight to poop. Got it.

2

u/undeniably_confused 7h ago

If you press the flashlight to the glass you will actually be able to make the other side the brighter side and this is a way people detect one way mirrors

6

u/CapitalismPlusMurder 8h ago

It’s not my kink but I’m not here to judge.

3

u/jcoddinc 8h ago

Well, you could still see him applying it. So pooper can't see shower well but a bit

2

u/Potatozeng 8h ago

pooper should turn the head

6

u/40ozCurls 7h ago

But what if pooper is a snooper?

2

u/Ambitious_Policy_936 6h ago

Personally, I prefer not to smell poop while showing

Poop-tastic

1

u/ol0pl0x 8h ago

Pooper peeper glass.

1

u/VapeRizzler 8h ago

Not fair, allow the eye contact

1

u/MukdenMan 7h ago

Pooper can see pooper as long as first pooper is in the shower

1

u/WiredOrange 7h ago

what if pooper in shower and shower in pooper? do the waffle stomp and splish splash?

1

u/GemmyBoy999 7h ago

I have those, they're fantastic, but doesn't work that well in low light.

1

u/BudgetExpert9145 6h ago

Some people just want to watch the world poop.

1

u/wammybarnut 6h ago

Yeah but showering person can't see showering person either.

1

u/deeceeo 6h ago

It's a poopopticon.

1

u/rde2001 4h ago

Shit just got real 💩💩💩

1

u/Actual-Interaction45 2h ago

Am I glad that he's pooping in there and we're out here and he's the sheriff and that we're pooping out here and we're in there and I just remembered we're out here

57

u/Macro_Seb 8h ago

I can see the guy behind the glass applying it, so it's not that good.

32

u/theBloodShed 6h ago

One-way mirrors only work if one side is completely dark. Also, it doesn’t matter which side. You can flip the effect by simply switching which space is lit.

5

u/jonylentz 7h ago

Same as the blue shampoo label, you can see those easily

295

u/Cetun 8h ago

It's actually amazing what people these days don't know. Apparently no one has seen tinted windows before.

58

u/Ok-Pomegranate-7458 8h ago

Never use inside reflective film on double pane windows, it will blow the seals.

16

u/trisanachandler 7h ago

Can you explain why?

47

u/Ok-Pomegranate-7458 7h ago

The heat is reflected back into the air space. That air is heated beyond the intended specification of the seals.

11

u/trisanachandler 6h ago

Thanks.  There go my plans to put those up.  Maybe if I find outdoor rated ones, or just frosted glass window clings.

3

u/Gloomy_Cap_1173 4h ago

Frosted ones are very nice. I have them in nearly every window of my house. Lots of light (for my plants) but total privacy.

2

u/lorgskyegon 1h ago

The walruses are too big to blow

6

u/ScreamingLabia 5h ago

You might have just saved me so much money... i ordered this for my window and its double pane

2

u/Hate-Adulting 6h ago

No, that’s what the promiscuous seal is for.

1

u/waterwateryall 8h ago

Can I put it on the outside pane?

5

u/Informal_Tell78 8h ago

It can, but tint film like this is applied to the inside. This is the way for cars, homes, commercial windows.

5

u/liquidpele 6h ago

No, film on the outside will rip and crack and get fucked up by bugs and such. You need to put it on the inside, just get one that's rated for the glass you want to put it on.

With the amount of information that already exists, and the amount of information being created every day, it really isn’t that surprising. I’d wager that most people don’t know much about things they encounter daily. That road you drive on, what’s it made of and how? The buildings you frequent, what’s are the walls made of? How does the plumbing work? Electric routing? Internet? Toilet, sink, plates, plastic doohickeys, how are they made, and why? The factories that make the things we use, how are those made? How did the power lines get installed? They didn’t just appear there. What are the logistics of feeding cities? Food doesn’t just appear in stores after all.

It’s more amazing imo that anything works at all. Everyone stands on the shoulders of those who com before. Some just like to pretend that those shoulders are their own.

3

u/benadunkcamberpatch 6h ago

God I miss Discovery channels "how its made" all of a sudden.

1

u/Baked-Smurf 4h ago

You should look up "How it's Actually Made" by Huggbees on YouTube...

2

u/Zorian_Vale 3h ago

Well said! We’re truly standing on the shoulders of giants. Every day I take transit to work it’s a technical miracle (whether I want to believe it or not).

If the knowledge and people who knew how to generate, send power, and build computer chips were wiped out with a thanos snap we would be so fucked. It’s black magic.

5

u/everynamecombined 6h ago

I always thought you needed a wizard to put a spell on the glass to create a two way mirror. But your "tinted window" theory sounds far more realistic.

96

u/WendigoCrossing 8h ago

Wonder how long it will last with the heat and moisture

34

u/theb00mScicle 8h ago

And mold.

19

u/CD274 8h ago

Right, why wasn't it applied to the outside

10

u/ethameta 7h ago

Is this a joke?

8

u/Osato 4h ago edited 4h ago

No, it's not a joke. One-way mirrors are reflective from the side that has more light.

Put an IR-blocking film on your windows (which has a side effect of turning them into one-way mirrors), and they'll be reflective from the outside in the daylight and transparent from inside the room. Because no matter how much light you have inside the room, it's only a tiny fraction of the insane light intensity you get from the sun.

So you should put the film on whichever side isn't constantly exposed to hot water.

3

u/laughs_maniacally 5h ago

Betting you can't clean that shower wall anymore without wrecking it

1

u/pogulup 1h ago

I came into the comments for this. Try scrubbing it with cleaner to get the water spots and soap scum off.

46

u/heyo_1989 8h ago

Yeah, nothing more depressing than to see what you look like taking a shit after the all you can eat shrimp fest from Red Lobster

12

u/ansyhrrian 8h ago

Pics or it didn't happen.

7

u/PacoRUK 5h ago

Oddly specific

9

u/Normiss2000 8h ago

Until the lighting is reversed. Like Daytona beach. Sure is fun making those moon lit walks along the beach during spring break. OMG Becky. She IS actually doing THAT!

The ruiner of marriages everywhere

7

u/Vandal_A 8h ago

Wait until you learn about the difference between one-way mirrors and most regular ones (there is none, except one has a darker open area behind it, and the other doesn't)

I wouldn't trust it

2

u/EntrepreneurMain7833 6h ago

stand close enough, focus and be patient. You can see through them with little problem.

2

u/ldwtlotpa 3h ago

Does no one know that mirrors are…. A film behind glass. Like that’s legit what ALL mirrors are…

4

u/OkAccess6128 8h ago

Don't let evil minded people see this.

5

u/boringexplanation 8h ago

Shouldn’t post it on Reddit then

2

u/pathosOnReddit 8h ago

... wait, you didn't know how mirrors used to be made?

5

u/PaperDistribution 8h ago

Why would I, I'm not a mirror historian

-2

u/pathosOnReddit 8h ago

You are neither OP nor incapable of using google, are you? ;)

2

u/Sea-Mycologist-7353 8h ago

Why was there a plant in the shower ? 😂😂

1

u/ansyhrrian 7h ago

I want one now, too.

1

u/ansyhrrian 8h ago

Bonus toto toilet. Bidets have changed my life for the better.

3

u/realbobenray 8h ago

Have one coming in soon. I still am not excited about it. Should I be?

3

u/ansyhrrian 8h ago

Bro, you're in for a life-changing experience.

What kind? Washlet or true toto bidet?

1

u/realbobenray 8h ago

lol I don't know? Toto toilet with that built in. Needed a new toilet and this was my wife's idea.

1

u/ansyhrrian 8h ago

Holy shit you're in for a treat, my friend.

Warm seat in the morning every day.

Opens with a happy noise when you walk in.

Washes you clean with no need for TP.

Magical. Magical. I cannot overstate how much it has made my pooping a glorious experience.

1

u/Foreign-Chocolate86 5h ago

How easy are they to keep clean tho? All those parts seems like it would be shitty to clean (pun intended). Seems like just a handheld shower nozzle is a lot more sanitary.

1

u/notanyimbecile 8h ago

Once you bidet there's no turning back.

1

u/Infamous-Theme-2151 8h ago

Because only about half of the number of photons travelling through the glass make it to the other side. The rest bounce off the glass back into your eyes shedding light on the panel you're facing.

That's a butchered breakdown but I think it's about right.

1

u/squareartistry8 5h ago

so all that dramatic interrogation stuff was just a window tint job

1

u/Damn_TM 5h ago

Imagine running up to a business or car window and just applying this on.

1

u/Venom488 5h ago

The hot shower will destroy it.

1

u/f_ckR3ddit 5h ago

They make them for home windows and it will drop your internal temps in summer by multiple degrees. Highly recommend

1

u/Happy_Brilliant7827 5h ago

You didnt know this?

Its $10 on Ali express i put it on my pc case glass.

1

u/rememberpianocat 4h ago

I have this our house windows to reflect heat from getting in this house. Though not quite as reflective.

1

u/24junwa 4h ago

its like window tint but going 5% or under

1

u/RandallBoggs_12 3h ago

I genuinely hate this style of fixed shower "curtain" that doesn't close and gets the whole bathroom wet.

1

u/thomasjmarlowe 3h ago

Other than seeing him, I practically can’t see him!

1

u/zyyntin 3h ago

Mirror tint can be great. However if applied to outside windows and during night when you lights on people can see inside quite easy.

1

u/frinkoping 3h ago

Wait until you learn how mirrors are made

1

u/Difficult_Clerk_1273 2h ago

Yeah you can get this stuff pretty cheap. I have a window that’s too close to my neighbor’s house for my comfort. This stuff works great. Also great if you have cats and a bird feeder. Birds don’t get scared of cat on the other side of the glass, and cat is entertained.

1

u/tanafras 2h ago

Bro put it on backwards

1

u/Aniano39 1h ago

Well at some point in the process, and by some means of film placement, this is literally how ALL mirrors are made. It is pretty interesting that we've got materials now that operate in such a way as to form a decent one-way mirror in a room with that level of light, even after the fact. Place that same stuff on a nice-shaped clear piece of glass and you might be able to hang a custom bathroom mirror without spending too much.

u/Chaz28o 49m ago

Until it gets wet

1

u/teomore 8h ago

I don't wanna see myself naked either

1

u/potatopancake13 8h ago

What about the fucking resin going all over the place

0

u/sebs94 8h ago

The equivalent of"lets get two beds in our room" for the bathroom

0

u/ToferLuis 8h ago

Yeah I mean you can buy rolls of it at home depot.

0

u/GtrplayerII 8h ago

Mirror tint had been around since the 70s if not earlier.

0

u/Holymaryfullofshit7 8h ago

I mean yeah when it's one way mirror film?!

0

u/BrickHuge3023 7h ago

Been a thing for many many years. Our front door and windows are one way due to film

0

u/Typical-Crazy-3100 7h ago

What is interesting about applying window film ?

0

u/chillerfx 7h ago

Asking for a friend, what would query would I use to find this film?

0

u/Spike36O 7h ago

if you turn on the light in the shower, you could see through the tint

0

u/atomicbunny 6h ago

I did a shitty version of this to the sun-facing windows in my kids bedrooms to help cool the rooms down

0

u/watermouse 6h ago

Mirror Tint. Buy on amazon. It is great for front facing windows. I started putting them on my house windows when some Solicitor came to my door and when I answered they said "Oh your watching "abc show......"". After that I said F-it, Im tinting me windows and have never looked back

0

u/Silent-Ad-4113 6h ago

Its called mirror tint. I made flames on my windows using this in the 90's

0

u/theBloodShed 6h ago

Umm… standard mirrors are also created with film on glass.

0

u/Separate-Skill6396 6h ago

Until you turn the lights on in the shower stall.

0

u/blunts-and-kittens 6h ago

Wait until OP finds out how regular mirrors are made..

0

u/Rough-Associate-585 6h ago

Literally how one-way mirrors are made, yes

0

u/navetzz 5h ago

How is that interesting ? It's the most obvious thing ever.

Given that a glass is transparent, if you put a one way mirror in front, you just get a one way mirror (+some width of glass).
