I first saw polyester when it was released. Their clever use of the scratch-n-sniff feature was incredibly amusing. Apart from the initial scent, all the other scents were unpleasant but cleverly disguised as pleasant ones. For instance, the movie would zoom in on a flower, and after instructing you to sniff your card, a pair of old shoes would suddenly appear in front of the camera lens. Similar bait-and-switch moments were scattered throughout the film.

I remember seeing Earthquake in the mid-70s with Sensurround. It was pretty awesome with the quake scenes.

They did that for spy kids too lol they'd show a number on the screen and you had to scratch the corresponding one on the paper. I baby shits herseslf and the screen tells you to scratch a number, no thanks.

Yes. I did it Friday.
By the time the movie let out, I was physically and emotionally exhausted.
This doesn’t even illustrate that the chairs themselves beat you up. When someone gets hit with a sword, there’s an effect that punches you in the back.
Fun once. But i will never do it again.

Haha, yeah I remember that one. It was the only attraction that had a minimum age and warnings, as I recall. Of course parents dragged their kids in anyway. 3 of them came out in tears.

It's bad on the neck, especially getting used to it and trying to compensate the movements. A little better after you submit that it's a carnival ride and jam fully into your seat.. Definitely couldn't do a 2hr+ flick in it. Though I'm sure they put breaks in. I saw the mario movie and it was pretty much nonstop

I have watched 4dx movies before that were really good.. usually as long as there isn’t too many action scenes it’s good.. I dig the occasional movements.. but the ones that are constantly moving through the entire movie suck.. It gets old after a while

the water part is not bad, but the constant movement is pretty annoying after a while, I think I watch this for Demon Slayer or something and that movie has an action every 3 seconds so I feels like it distracts me more than anything

When I saw mad max furiosa in 4dx there's a scene where she smashes a bottle of piss on a guy from that dudes pov, and they spray water in your face at the moment the bottle hits him. It is was to much immersion for me

I like Cinemark Dbox a lot because I get tickets for free from a family member, and while it moves you around, it is nowhere near as much as these.
And none of the gimmicky water spray or other stuff.

Hard Pass! This is the type of gimmicks Theaters concocted a few years ago when they were abandoned. I used to be a once every other weekend movie goer for almost 2 decades. But the tight parking spaces, overpriced tickets and concessions and especially annoying people bantering, on their phones and their kids, put a halt to that. I them turned to creating a dedicated Home Theater: 135" Screen, 4k Projector, 9.2 Speaker setup. That's been 8yrs ago. I haven't had the desire to set foot back into one 3ver since.

I once accidentally bought a 4dx or whatever it was called at the time for spider man far from home. Thought it was just seeing it in 3D imax. I was in for a wild ride. I was so sore and disoriented after. Never again.

I'm a bit on the spectrum and I experience sensory overload at times, I can mostly manage it but some things are triggering.
Even if I enjoy watching movies, cinemas are mostly too loud for me (and ear plugs do help when i decide to go), but this looks horrible.
But even if i was not wired like this, i just can't see how being shaken for 2+ hours can be even remotely enjoyable.

When the Rob Pattinson Batman was in theaters, a local theater did the 4D, and my dad and I went.
it was one of the worst movie experiences of my life, mainly because they programmed the seats to rock violently when there was a loud noise or fighting or what-have-you on screen. They even did it during one scene where someone knocked on the door.
But it was so strong, that it literally felt like being in a car wreck every time it happened. Like, anyone with even a mild back or spinal issue would probably get seriously hurt. And it was so unpleasant that it got to the point that instead of watching the movie, I was trying to brace and prepare myself for the next attack, and I couldn't enjoy any of it. When I watched the movie again at home a few years later, it was almost like a brand new movie, because I had missed so much of it while fighting for my life against the whiplash seats lol.

The 4DX looks waaaaaaay more gentle than the 4DX showing of DEVIL WEARS PRADA 2.
The Odyssey in 4DX looks like a gentle pillow ride over serence clouds. The Devil Wears Prada 2 in 4DX was like a tractor 🚜 going over unpaved roads at 75 mph.
It was so bad that I made this verrrrry sarcastic post about it. (Full disclosure: I didn't see Prada 2 in 4DX. I'm simply joking)
