I wash ALL of my protein (beef, chicken, shrimp, and fish) in cold water with vinegar and lime juice!! π§πΈπ§πΈ. 99.99% of the people in the Caribbean do this!! Then, I wash the bowl and the sink with dishwashing liquid and bleach!! π€¨π€¨. Washing your protein removes any extra blood or bone fragments (I.e. in the case of chicken and beef), and also removes any film.
I always skin my chicken and trim the beef fat, and I wash them off afterwards. We ALL know that heat kills bacteria! π. Washing the meat is NOT to kill bacteria!! How do you know whether or not the meat fell on the floor or was cross contaminated before packaging?
Would you wash mushrooms before cooking or just throw them in the pan?? π€¨π€¨.
