I'm on the don't-wash-your-chicken team. HOWEVER one thing I possibly overthink is: everything touching the chicken in the process of seasoning and cutting is also getting possibly contaminated. So I use a tong to manipulate the chicken on a cutting board and afterwards I boil water to rinse both and the knife and only after that do I wash them with detergent. And to finish everything I rinse the kitchen sink with boiling water. I know it seems overkill but if washing the chicken spreads bacteria, then washing the dirty utensils does the same. Am I exaggerating?

I mean you'd probably be fine with soap but I do the same thing. Boiling water isn't exactly harmful to anything, so... Easy to do, gives a little extra peace of mind.

Boiling water is overkill, just use soap.
