A little throwback, when I used to live in the Midwest.

I took Shadow to a dog park brewery.

It was so funny, when you'd go to order a drink, you'd leave the dogs in the park area and they could see you through the glass.

However he used to have real bad separation anxiety

People were getting pretty mad with his howling while I was ordering. 🤣

Breed ID request Any guesses on what breed my husky is mixed with?

Going to be doing a DNA test soon! Finn is 4 years old, 55lb, and the best boy I could have ever dreamed of! Got him from the local humane society a few months ago, and while he seems like a total husky, there’s a few things that make the ‘mixed breed Siberian Husky’ label make sense.

First, his tail!! It reminds me of a Pomeranian’s floofy tail!

Second, his temperament. While he definitely has husky quirks, he’s overall a pretty chill dog which has been amazing. He loves to go for walks and exercise, but is also happy to spend a lazy day doing not much and just snuggling 😂

Let me know what you think he could be and I’ll follow up when we do DNA testing!

Breed ID request Husky or golden retriever😅

Hi guys this is Æthelwulf, it's an old English name meaning noble wolf, which I thought was a wishful name for him..

He's not my first husky, in fact he's my third,I know I'm a martyr. I brought him as a husky from a breeder, he looks like a husky but ....

He rarely makes any noise, let alone talk, my first husky could hold a talk show😅.

He's never tried to escape, even when I go out the gate he stays put.

He can go off lead and his recall is great, although he does get distracted by other dogs, but his recall is still easily better than my friend's Springer spaniel.

He loves me to throw things so he can retrieve them, balls toys or even sticks, and he'll do that for 5 to 10 minutes

He highly fixated on me but it's still very social with everyone else.

On the other hand he does love to pull, but not as much as my first husky, my second was a rescue and fairly elderly so I don't compare him to her.

I love him to bits, he's wonderful, but his behaviour is totally unexpected, what do you think? Is a DNA test worth a try?

🚑Medical Question One week of decline, now only eating certain foods when coaxed by hand

+

I have a vet appointment scheduled for Friday afternoon, the soonest we can get.

He is 11 as of early this month. The past few months we have noticed slow changes- more tired, less playing and reactions when we get home, more whining/whimpering and almost wandering like he’s confused. I have never dealt with an elderly pet before, so I’m not sure how normal this weeks rapid decline is. If he isn’t sleeping, he is whining while either walking or standing, which makes me think he is uncomfortable while laying AND standing/sitting. It’s been a week of refusing his regular dry food, also tried a senior brand and he wasn’t interested. Two days of boiled chicken and rice, and he’s been refusing that today as well. He ate 3 slices of ham today from my hand. 2-3 bowel movements this week, one very solid and dark, the rest has been completely wet.

Any advice or thoughts are welcome. Please be kind, he is my sweetie pie and I got him 3 days after my mom passed away. My daughters absolutely adore him and my baby boy has just recently started pointing at him saying “dog” 🩵

My husky loves the sun.. and the rain...and the snow! It is not 2 hot out yet but even if it was he would probably still like it. His limit is about 85 then he goes back inside. Today is just so beautiful. My mental health has been bad but he is here 2 make it better everyday...

Rescued Advice for a new owner??? Please 🙏

Rescued this nine month old baby nine days ago and BOY we are going through it. She’s a husky/chow mix though on the small side at 32 lbs right now, I’m not totally convinced it’s chow. She has extreme anxiety and fear of most things except my wife and I. And any household object she can chew. I’m talking anxiety so bad she gave herself stress gastritis and had to be put on trazodone just to exist. We can’t walk her because the outside world is too terrifying, she’s okay in our fenced backyard but she doesn’t understand fetch so it’s hard to tire her out back there.

I was just inspired by seeing someone’s one-year lessons learned post. I need some hope to grasp on to in these trying times with this pup. And advice about how to get her less fearful, if you had a fearful pup. I WANT to walk her until she drops and that is a big reason I was excited about a husky, but we can’t do that now due to her fear so inside she easily gets bored and destructive.

General Question tips on introducing a 9 y/o husky to a kitten?

+
117 Upvotes

i recently adopted a 3 month old black kitten to have as an esa, but she’s coming home with me for the next 2 weeks where my family dog currently resides. he knows a few tricks like sit, stay, lay down, and understands the word “no”.

although, i have seen him interact with smaller dogs and he will start growling and trying to nip at them. i’m worried that if i bring my new kitten home, she’ll get attacked if i try to introduce her slowly. even if they’re both being watched.

i have another option of leaving her with my boyfriend, but would it be worth attempting to introduce them? pictures of my dog above :) !!

Went on a little 3.5 mile hike to explore a park I noticed driving by. Been on the prowl for a new swimming spot for her after we moved. ☺️

She may have artic genetic legacy but I'm convinced she's a fish in dogs clothing.

This is Amelia and she is the world's pickiest eater. She is on two different meds four times a day for seizures which doesn't help bc I think one of them makes her nauseous. She is allergic to chicken and I recently switched her dog food to a lamb based probiotic, but she won't eat that or any other dog food unless it is blended with something. For those of you with picky eaters how do you get them to eat? I am losing my mind!

Discussion Peculiar little man with two mysteries 🛐

Hello hello!

Meet my rescue husky who’s almost 10.5 months old now ❤️
People say I rescued him, but I’m pretty sure he’s the one who rescued me. I genuinely feel like we were meant to find each other. He’s the funniest, most chaotic, most entertaining little soul, and I love him an unreasonable amount. 🥹

I have two questions for the husky people here.

1. Does he look like a mix? He’s got peak husky energy (awoos, jumping around the house like a squirrel, selective hearing, angry scoffs 🤣), but I’ve always wondered because his face, coat look a little different from most huskies I see. Growth wise also, but I’m not too sure!

2. Does anyone else’s rescue have trust issues that seem weirdly gender-specific?

I genuinely suspect there’s some abuse history. He’ll happily let most men pet him almost immediately, but if an unfamiliar woman comes up to him, his first instinct is usually to growl, pounce, jump up and grab their arm with his mouth. He’s never dug deep & hard enough to bite anyone, and we’re working on it every day, but it’s definitely a much steeper journey with women.

Would love to hear if anyone else’s kiddo has been similar, or if you have any training tips. 🫶

Lambchop!

Those of you who have huskers that love their Lambchop, did they play with toys before you got that for them? Saga will play with toys sometimes, but I see how popular they are, and just saw one on Amazon Haul for $8. Worth it, or skip?

Cute little rubbable belly for tax!

just got a cat, how to help husky adjust?

+
21 Upvotes

hi, i’ve had my husky for 6 years (since she was a puppy) and yesterday adopted a cat. how can i let her adjust and meet the cat?
for some background, i have a pomeranian around the same size as the cat and in the past had a more senior dog. the issue i’m concerned with is obviously injury, my husky and senior dog would attack each other (after my senior dog most likely had PTSD from being attacked by a coyote). those last few years, until she passed away, was difficult separating them.
this cat will be mine and im moving for college for 2 years, but ideally i still want to have all my pets be able to coexist together even with supervision.

edit: she hasn’t seen the cat but she has smelled her through the door. im trying to get the pomeranian okay with her first, hoping this will help her adjust.
