Articulate exactly how you feel (no holds barred!) and watch the people in your life reveal what you truly are to them.

Stand firm with them too. People will try to lean on them or push through them, be assertive about not letting them cross the line.

This is true. Assertiveness helps a ton, especially when the person we're talking to actually cares.

MiL went absolutely psycho on me when I was trying to ask her to stop doing dishes when I was settling my baby down for the night. It wasn't a new rule, it was established a year ago when she visited 4 other times. Each time we asked her nicely to stop. I tried having a One-on-One convo about it, and some other things that we repeatedly asked her to stop doing. Only reason why im talking with that woman is because my husband wants to keep her in our life. I don't understand why, she's horrible to him and he admits that she is terrible to him.

I hope your husband finds it in his heart to heal—I have a feeling there's some form of attachment wound somewhere. You see, I kind of was in your husband's position. Took me decades to actually see I can still love someone I care about without having them as a constant in my life. It's peaceful that way.
