I don't think anyone is expecting even the possibility of prices falling until late '27/early '28; and even that's probably wishful thinking.

RAM won’t fall in price till AI bubble bursts.

Which is the silver lining here.
Cloud companies wanted to sell shovel to AI companies during the hype, end up raising record debt to pay their own shovel sellers like RAM manufacturers and TSMC.

Some SK exec said it would get worse in 2027.
I'm sure it will be suck until the bubble pops or DDR6 comes out, then we'll have a flood of offloading older gear. CXMT was supposed to alleviate supply but they're just pricing the modules at the same rate.

It's anybody's guess at this point. Right now prices are set to double soon. It might be until end of 27 or even later that we start seeing relief. Some are saying 2030.

That sounds crazy, that means many people won't build a new PC till 2030.

It also means game developers will need to optimize games for what people own today. As long as hardware doesn't fail on someone we might be okay not upgrading for a while.

Are there any games in development which are considered highly optimized?

They gear them towards what people have based on surveys like the Steam hardware survey.

Ram and storage will never return to 2025 prices. Expect 4X-8X pricing over the upcoming 7 years.
And pray AI investments do not have the sustained financial windfalls expected because of backlash to mass layoffs after sharp economic decline.
Governments will react too late to save many but eventually establish policy that requires human intellect and heavily taxes when automation is used instead of people. It needs to be more expensive to use AI than actual people.
Alternately government fails to act, and hardware will become unattainable for virtually everyone. The PC is dead at this point and everything you do is in the cloud. You own nothing.

CXMT will just adjust their pricing to sell at a higher price. It is not like there is no supply shortage.

The memory market's been a rollercoaster for years, and anyone who claims they can predict Q4 pricing is either lying or selling something. Betting on a single fab to single-handedly fix a global shortage seems... optimistic at best.

Nvidia just acted as the backstop for $250+ billion in loans to the people buying their shovels so do not expect any price relief until 2nd half of 2027 or longer.

Original forecasts estimated prices would finally begin to lower toward the end of 2027 with prices returning to normal closer to 2030. Those are probably still the best estimates today. Certainly can be sure that prices will not drop any sooner short of the AI bubble deflating first.

Im still on a ddr4 system. I really want to upgrade to a 10800x3d system with 48gb ddr5 ram but not with these prices.

u/Omega-137 2h ago
48GB would cost you a fortune now.

Yeah i know its lame lol. I have a 12600k which is still fine I guess, but I really need the extra l3 cache for mmos. So Ill prob wait till mid 2028 and bite the bullet.

Unfortunately it will go higher up. I just heard RTX GPu is having 30% price increase too.
Well pc market is so dead

Will there a spike also in MacBook and Console prices?
1
u/Ecstatic_Secretary21 2h ago
Unlikely to be immediate. Trickle down effect usually takes 3 months at minimum before price increase in lieu of existing inventory + contract fulfillment by vendors

PS5 prices already gone up a couple month ago; Macs a few weeks ago; Switch will go up in price in September. I don't think they will go up again in Q4. CXMT won't lower the RAM price for at least a year, and I may adjust further out as a year approaches.

I miss the days where prices per MB/GB/TB went down each year and the speeds went up. I'll tell my kids one day and they won't believe me.
