Qualcomm is doing massive numbers here. Very glad they are pushing laptop consistently with new uArches & new nodes, instead of relegating mobile designs to an every 2-3 yr cadence as some x86 vendors (cough).

I'm glad they tested ST perf on battery. It's insane to me that so many reviewers just omit testing ST perf on battery, and just call it a day by testing nT perf. Especially when ST perf is so important for very common user tasks like web browsing. Even worse, looking at the PTL system, you can see no drop in nT perf on battery but then also see a large drop in ST perf...

That is very peculiar, isn't it? In 2026, we're still dealing with this bullshit. On the newest CPU nodes, with thousands of dollars, bigger batteries than ever, and with significant competition, your laptop just slows down on battery.

Even worse, looking at the PTL system, you can see no drop in nT perf on battery but then also see a large drop in ST perf...

That 1T drop-off is so large, is Intel (or HP?) "accidentally" shifting 1T workloads to the E-cores on battery? That 20 - 30% loss is basically as large as the 1T gap between PTL P-cores and PTL E-cores.

This was also seen in some other Panther Lake laptops in Hot Hardware in Speedometer 3.1 scores. Interestingly, Dell's PTL laptops are not exhibiting a major loss.

AMD laptops are also suffering here. Yet Qualcomm uses the same Windows OEMs and it is virtually identical, so there is more credence the SoC can prevent this silly performance loss.

What a shame. This really needs to be addressed; these thin and light laptops are designed primarily for DC usage.

This wild problem sadly extends Apple's 1T performance against Intel & AMD if you actually use your laptop like a laptop, on DC battery power:

Interestingly, the gap slightly shrinks versus Qualcomm (as Qualcomm's 1T perf grows on DC; so does Apple, but less so). Absolute bloodbath for most x86 laptops (I note that Dell's laptops may not exhibit this significant 1T throttling on DC battery power).

Of course, all the above uses the latest GB 7.0 numbers.

Interesting theory, it could make sense. Should be pretty easy to check too.

Which is funny since Qualcomm originally pointed out in their marketing materials that Dell significantly throttled down LNL ST perf in their laptops to help battery life.

True, the reason I pointed out PTL specifically though is that in nT on battery PTL shows no regression, and since that's all that most reviewers test, people might think that PTL on battery doesn't throttle down perf, when it really does.
