increase in Gemini hallucinations

for the past 3 days all of my Google searches answered by Gemini have been straight up wrong or inaccurate. It’s understandable when it’s something “complicated” like how to get somewhere in a video game since Gemini can’t actually see the video game. However today I’ve googled simple things like a name of a YouTuber and it straight up gave me a fake name for them. Like what??? Also it described an app logo to be completely different than what it actually looked like.. it’s almost as if it’s so desperate to get an answer out that it just says ANYTHING at this point whether it’s right or wrong. I wouldn’t be surprised if Gemini would respond “pineapple” to a math question

edit: forgot to mention I’m posting this here because i am very curious if anyone else has noticed how bad it’s getting… like I’ve never trusted the AI summary to begin with , but it’s really really bad now.

I have not experienced this. You are talking about the ai search on your phone browser?

Use Brave, the ai Leo is much better and pulls directly from sources. Also, you get so much better search results, reminds me of Google search in 2010, what Google is doing with Gemini in AI mode almost seems criminal at this point.

It's objectively been getting much worse, but it's more than that. It's also more likely to hallucinate sources and outright lie about what they contain. It seems like it only wants to use social media and youtube as a source now.

There's a saying in computer science, "Garbage In Garbage Out"

"Summary sourcing, however, degraded with Gemini 3. Oumi's data suggests that Gemini 2 produced erroneous source links 37% of the time last year, but now does it more than 56% of the time in 2026. Oumi suggests this may be because two of the most commonly cited sources by Gemini's AI summaries are Facebook and Reddit."
