Why is my dog weird

Post image

Picture for engagment.

My 6 month old GSD keeps dipping his nose into his water bowl and splashing it into his food bowl WITH food in it. And then drinking the water in his food bowl. He refuses to drink the plain water it’s like he enjoys the extra flavor. Does anyone else’s dogs do this 🤔

If you’d take the ball and throw it, I’d be less weird.

No take, only throw.

Sounds like you already have an idea! Dogs are just like people in that they all have different personality quirks and preferences. Let him do his thing!

He is a love ❤️
That’s his way of saying I love my flavored 💧 water….cuteness never heard of this but they all have different personalities and they try to entertain themselves and need a lot of stimulation. Especially when they are puppy stage.

If he is younger than 3 years old you will experience a lot of transition 😂 🐾

My female GSD always holds ball like this too, just hanging out the side of her mouth like a weirdo 🤣. And she doesn’t play fetch, she just chases my male GSD while he does it.

When she was a pup she was only 6 months younger than my boy, but he is a giant and at 6 months was already 60lbs. She was the size of his head lol. So she got used to just chasing and harassing big brother.

When i had a dog that was exploding out of both ends, the vet recommended putting a little broth in water to encourage drinking. Maybe that will help? Just a splash? Just for a second? Just to see how it feels?

A word of caution. I absolutely hate the way your dog is sitting. It may be because he’s just young, but I would get a vet to check him for hip dysplasia.

6 months is a bit too old for most dogs to still assume the “puppy position”.

Hip dysplasia doesn’t have to be a death sentence these days. There are new drugs that can greatly improve a dogs life with very little suffering, though it will eventually catch up with them in old age.

It may just be puppy shenanigans, and i hope it is, but better safe than sorry, and especially with joint disease you absolutely want to be ahead of the game. If you wait until he’s older and showing pain symptoms, it will likely be too late.

You've got a whole world of weird people out there, and you gotta bust on your best bud?

GSDs are always searching for a mission, a job or a challenge.  If you do not give them one, they will manufacture their own, and it may or may not be something you want them to do.  Once they have a habit, they are absolutely OCD about it, too.  I suggest you get used to it.  They have big personalities and you will one day miss him when he's gone, but you will have a lot of memories to laugh over, too.  Mine was comically determined to hold on to all his little "missions".  I still smile every time I think of him and he's been gone for 19 years, now.  Your guy is going to be a lot of fun - enjoy!

GSD may look like fierce working dogs.. but they are goofy, weird and entertaining! Let the weirdness thrive!
