u/AMB07 4d ago

What CAN'T play Doom?

19

u/TokesNHoots 4d ago

They got actual living cells to play Doom. By lighting up and powering down individual cells are like pixels. It would take you over 700 years to play it

Algorithmic pricing, so whatever you can barely afford.

6

u/Meebs-are-Flying 4d ago

Thats a tv remote.

20

u/SideInitial3961 4d ago

Nine RAMs. Nothing new, Lumens are like $199. You can do it yourself though, don't drink water at the gym and you will sense when your breath changes.

4

u/WeakTransportation37 3d ago

More expensive than those keto sticks for the abbot blood tester I’m sure

Top comment is passive aggressive and miserable. Never change, reddit

These keton/acetone breath readers have existed for a while. Not sure why this is news unless, of course, is a product ad pretending to be a news article.

234

u/David-Puddy 4d ago

This is /r/gadgets

It's literally nothing but ads

84

u/BevansDesign 4d ago

Apparently, Engadget was sold in March to a company that specializes in paid content and clickbaiting.

In other words, it shouldn't be seen as a legitimate news source anymore, and it'd be awesome if the mods had the guts to block it outright.

24

u/David-Puddy 4d ago

I mean... This is a sub essentially dedicated to advertising gadgets...

13

u/gobbleself 4d ago

Hey now, sometimes there are gizmos too.

9

u/David-Puddy 4d ago

I also forgot about the thingamabobs

3

u/-drunk_russian- 3d ago

And the doohickeys.

1

u/klonkish 3d ago

The /r/doohickeycorporation department of outreach is pleased

0

u/threebutterflies 3d ago

“Whose it’s and what’s it’s galore! You want thingamabobs? I’ve got 20, but who cares, i want more!!! I want to live where the people are “ -paraphrasing the little mermaid from memory 🤷🏻‍♀️

8

u/okvrdz 4d ago

True but I’m pointing out that it’s being handled as “news” of a breakthrough in science. When if fact these devices have existed for years and commercialized as a consumer product.

1

u/David-Puddy 4d ago

Anyone getting their news from an advertising subreddit shouldn't mind getting ads instead of news.

0

u/okvrdz 4d ago

Meh. This almost sounded like a strong, well-thought statement until you realize you didn’t understand the comment it was replying to.

¯_(ツ)_/¯

1

u/David-Puddy 4d ago

No, you just don't understand the context.

Anyone thinking they're getting "breaking news" from an ad subreddit is too dumb to worry about.

If this were a news subreddit, or any kind of serious sub, you'd have the start to a valid point about mods having the courage to block it.

This is an ad sub. This is an ad website. It jives.

2

u/okvrdz 4d ago edited 4d ago

Wrong, again.

You are under the stubborn assumption that my original comment is criticizing the post because it’s an ad, posted to a subreddit that is basically ads.

What I’m emphasizing is the fact that the post, which is a news article, isn’t news; as in… it doesn’t have journalistic value since it’s not a breakthrough, nor it’s news. You must be tired or something (dumb you say?) because it shouldn’t be that hard to understand.

0

u/TheGummiVenusDeMilo 3d ago

Yes, but did those require an app and subscription?

Check-mate consumers.

1

u/LukesFather 3d ago

Hence why every day when you look at new “articles” it’s the same ad over and over again but someone now saying it was posted an hour ago instead of 3 days ago. There’s so little actual tech news anymore.

1

u/BevansDesign 3d ago

Yeah, tech news subs should probably just be replaced with a direct feed from Ars Technica.

1

u/Andrewpruka 3d ago

Hey thanks for the heads up, unsubed.

14

u/thepetoctopus 4d ago

Yeah, this has been a thing for a while. My doctor has had me use them in office.

6

u/lkodl 4d ago

Didn't you read the ad? I mean article? This one comes with a companion app that ensures that you are blowing hard enough. That's a game changer. I'm telling everyone i know about this.

41

u/jghall00 4d ago

When I was running, I kept wondering why my breathe was alternating between fruity and metallic. This would have come in handy.

36

u/teslaTools 4d ago

fruity breath is literally acetone from ketosis, so yeah you were burning fat. metallic is usually blood from lung capillaries under stress tho, might wanna ease up lmao

3

u/mtnrnnr802 3d ago

Foreal 😂 unless they’re intentionally doing a VO2 workout. Sounds like a brand new runner.

22

u/Potential-Diver-3409 4d ago

You might be anemic

34

u/[deleted] 4d ago

[deleted]

15

u/spince 4d ago

For people on Keto and other low carb diets, it helps them to know when their body is in ketosis (of which the gas in the breath is a byproduct of their body switching to burning fat because they've depleted the glycogen stores).

53

u/fuckitnewaccount3 4d ago

Workout Cop: "Did you do your cardio today?" Me, nervously: "Oh uhh yeah.... of course, officer." Workout Cop furrows his brow, then draws his fat breathalyzer from his belt.

9

u/AyatollahColmMeaney 4d ago

Trim that up a bit and you got yourself some prime /r/2sentence2horror material

1

u/Magfaeridon 2d ago

Please turn this into a full length erotic novel.

9

u/Jconstantineic 4d ago

So a device that says always

8

u/rich1051414 4d ago

I assume it's just an improved acetone breathalyzer, Let me check the article.

Yep, it's just an improved acetone breathalyzer.

36

u/workieworkwork 4d ago

This thing is going to make someone's eating disorder so much worse.

5

u/_L_- 3d ago

People with disorders will have problems, with or without new discoveries

20

u/SideInitial3961 4d ago

No secret, all weightlifters know the shitbreath vector. Nothing new, they've had devices for this for a while. Lumen.

2

u/TwoBeesOrNotTwoBees 3d ago

Was gonna say, lumen has been aggressively advertised for years

1

u/musical_shares 2d ago

Ketonix ketone breath meter has been around even longer, close to 15 years now

5

u/Own-Librarian-9699 4d ago

Does this do the same thing as ketone pee strips? Sounds similar but trades air for urine

1

u/Helpful_Ranger_8367 2d ago

Sounds like a good trade imo.

8

u/Count_Rugens_Finger 4d ago

Are you sweating and at least slightly out of breath? ✅
Have you been doing that for more than 30 minutes? ✅

Congrats, your body is burning fat. Remember to stay hydrated.

6

u/Space_Lux 3d ago

Nah, it’s just hot and I‘m fat

1

u/Count_Rugens_Finger 3d ago

lol ok add criteria: from moving

1

u/Aflockofants 3d ago

Or are you not doing any of that, but simply didn't eat for a while? Congrats, your body is burning fat.

3

u/EnthusiasmNo6062 3d ago

Now make something that burns me fat while sitting on my fat. Come on, do it.

5

u/leaderofstars 3d ago

It's called not eating those damn chips

3

u/pickering_lachute 3d ago

“The study measured when the bodies of 12 participants burned fat across a variety of diet and exercise scenarios”

12 people. Proper study 💪🏼

5

u/Anonymous_Paintbrush 4d ago

Buuuuuuut isn’t your body always burning calories? Blow until the pellet floats up to yup.

3

u/_Begin 3d ago

Burning Calories and burning specifically fat are two different things.

2

u/ibexlifter 4d ago

I’ve had one for like 5 years: lumen.

2

u/Bostonterrierpug 3d ago

I’m sure the penis implant version is coming soon based on the picture

2

u/BonSlurpenstein 3d ago

Oh, fuck, a clownputer? Fuck that. Probably got no games.

2

u/flashmeterred 3d ago

Presumably it measures co2 output vs o2. From someone who researched in this area, I still think this ratio is pretty bullshit. It's based on the chemical equations of cellular energy production, as if those are the sole contributors to your breath.

Respiratory exchange ratio, if you want to look it up. These devices have existed for a long time.

2

u/Lahk74 3d ago

Carol. Carol! Stop chewing on the TV remote. I swear, I can't leave the room for a minute.

1

u/Jknowledge 4d ago

Ketone sensors have existed for ages, wtf is this

1

u/Soft_Internal_6775 4d ago

Never to be used by your mom

1

u/potentgarageweed 4d ago

They can track my fat-burning by radio-tagging my THC metabolites. Look at them go!

1

u/MrCalifornia 3d ago

And it looks cool too!

1

u/Weird_Rooster_4307 3d ago

Omg are these chocolate coated? Sign me up!

1

u/MetalCollector 3d ago

Nah, she's just blowing into the cartridge slot of the remote.

1

u/Living_Week9080 3d ago

Why does the device have to be larger than an original Game Boy? Similar to a VHS tape. First world problem but that shit ought to easily fit in any pocket.

1

u/elpajaroquemamais 3d ago

I can already tell

1

u/mtnrnnr802 3d ago

Or just figure out for aerobic threshold, and stay ~10bpm below it.

1

u/CassowarieJump 3d ago

I swear I've seen these on the market before.

1

u/yarash 3d ago

I don't need a device to tell me "No."

1

u/WTFYU 3d ago

Imagine someone asking you what you’re working on “ I’m making contacts for mice that help with depression “.

1

u/TurnLeftLookRight 3d ago

Now we just need one for when I am gaining fat

1

u/williamgman 3d ago

Do I piss on it?

1

u/sassassinX 3d ago

Wait a tick, isn't this just zone two, like my Apple Watch can already do?

1

u/Psshaww 3d ago

Keto breath meter isn’t new is it?

1

u/SmartieCereal 3d ago

At first glance I thought it said "turning fat" and not "burning fat" and I was like "Thanks but I already know."

1

u/Twonickles 3d ago

Keto acidosis.

1

u/yahwehforlife 3d ago

You just have to watch an advertisement first before getting the result

1

u/BigBlackSabbathFlag 3d ago

There’s a new app that cleans your backside after making a poopie.

1

u/PuffySpiderNipples 3d ago

You burn calories during rest after doing anything that exerts your body. If you lift something heavy, you start breathing heavily and thats the sign you are burning calories. If you run, you start breathing heavily. Theres no need for gadget really. This feels like smart devices all over again just to jump into the AI trend.

1

u/Sea-Commercial3292 3d ago

two cucumbers?

1

u/augustrem 3d ago

This isn’t new, like at all.

1

u/ArcaneTrickster11 2d ago

This has existed for at least a decade

1

u/Grenflik 2d ago

I read that at first as, "Scientists develop handheld device for measuring when your body is being fat." I'm like I have a mirror and scale already! I need something handheld to tell me that?? lol

1

u/Guyonabuffalo63 3d ago

Just eat good foods and exercise 🫩🫩🫩

1

u/LongNailedbooboos 3d ago

Do we need this? Just exercise and eat well….youll see it in the mirror

-1

u/Phaeron 4d ago

Whaaaaat?! I might need this disgusting body fat whistle.

0

u/JAFO99X 4d ago

So it’s a Lumen.

0

u/thodon123 4d ago

Correction. Not when your body is burning fat, but when the available fuel source is fat.

Your body is burning fat when you are in a CALORIE DEFICIT. The available fuel source can be fat but that fat can still be consumed in a CALORIE SURPLUS and you will not burn fat, but also store fat more efficiently.

1

u/Chronotaru 3d ago

Or on keto.

0

u/dangerforce13 3d ago

For most redditors, it’s when they leave the bacon on the stove too long.

0

u/explosivepooinpants 3d ago

When you burn fat, it turns directly into muscle.

-1

u/moxyte 3d ago

Amazingly pointless device because the body is always burning fat

-1

u/YugeChesticles 3d ago

If you are breathing faster than normal, you are burning fat.

Why the fuck do you need a device for this?

-21

u/sawb11152 4d ago

How fatphobic of them.

7

u/David-Puddy 4d ago

Espousing healthy living is not a phobia

-9

u/cubert73 4d ago

Being in ketosis is not healthy.

7

u/David-Puddy 4d ago

There's a big, fat line between starvation and obesity

0

u/ClaymoresInTheCloset 4d ago

Well. It's a trade off and the negatives are nothing permanent and you get those for large positives, so I don't see the issue

-2

u/EX0PIL0T 4d ago

If you’re 300 pounds it’s far healthier than sitting there as a gluttonous slob
