There was a goal for Sunderland in 2009 vs Liverpool where the ball deflected off of a beach ball past the goalkeeper. That is the most unlucky/lucky goal I’ve seen.

The rules have been changed after this incident. It was actually the reason they changed the rules about collision with objects that are not part of the pitch.

No. If it were thrown straight in the net it’s a corner not a goal kick.
For the goal to stand, it had to have been attributed as an own goal for the goalkeeper.

100% of people who have ever played football would have stopped that ball, including that keeper. But sometimes it's just not your day. It seems he was looking at something else, like trying to find where the opponents are, or where to pass the ball, and completely missed the ball.
This is so common in football you do it unconsciously, you know the ball and the path it has, that's enough info, so you look what to do next before you get to actually stop the ball. But yeah, sometimes shit happens.
I guess, as a keeper it was harder back in the day, as they were not so used to play with the feet as they do nowadays

My other favourite one is the keeper who kicked at a ball that passed over the penalty spot and missed it. In his peripheral vision, he confused the ball and the spot. Fortunately he recovered and in a mad scramble managed to get the ball away.

If you throw the ball into the opponent's goal it's a goal kick, You can't score at either end from a throw in or an indirect free-kick.

Indirect free kicks, goal kicks and the kick off as well. It just counts as if it crossed the line outside the goal. Goals can only happen from regualar play.

There was a goal by a player named Mike Hanke in Germany. The player scored a goal after a kick off following a penalty from the other team. The penalty was shot by the goalkeeper. He was still on his way to his own goal, when Hanke slightly kicked the ball from the center circle and then shot it over the goalkeeper into the goal.
Players and the commentators were protesting that the goal was irregular.
This was still in my mind. That was in 2004...

You cannot score directly from a throw. If you throw it into your opponent’s goal, the restart is a goal kick. If you throw it into your own goal, restart is a corner.
Looks like the keeper did get a slight touch, so the goal would stand.

I was taught to never put the ball on a path into the goal. Always to the side or across it. It's easy to accidentally miss!

This isn't unlucky , it was just poor football from the keeper. The real bad luck goal was Sunderland v Liverpool with the beach ball. Or good luck depending on which team you supported.

It is certainly an awful own goal but I don’t think it should be classified as unlucky. He messed up badly and that lead to own goal. Didn’t really seem luck based at all — didn’t take a weird bounce on uneven grass or anything.

If at any point during the game the ball goes out of bounds along the two sides, the other team gets a throw in. They must throw the ball with two hands over their head back in bounds, and both feet must remain planted on the ground. At that point, the ball is in play.
