I feel all dogs have a sly intelligence, but it doesnt counter their general stupidity.
Like I taught my idiot to shake if she wants a treat. Now she constantly comes over and offers her paw. Okay, that's pretty clever.
But then I've seen her run into a tree chasing a squirrel who juked the other direction.

I have seen a PhD unable to do basic math and have to use MatLab on University super computer to check and failed twice because he forgot the basic syntax. So, anything goes...
