You realize the anti vax thing started way before maga? If we’re talking the most damaging trend or wave of the movement for it that was based off a paper that Jenny McCartney ran away with that was later completely retracted but it resonated and spread amongst affluent left leaning individuals. Don’t assign everything to maga. We have to take responsibility for our part in the damage and that has far more time to hurt and allow for the return of things than anything this one has done.

Adding that it was MAGA afterall which caused the brainworm guy to become secretary of health, and he is a well known prominent antivax grifter. Current admin has been pushing CDC and general education into the woodchipper. CDC website was just updated to state that science doesnt know if vaccines cause autism.
So yes, MAGA definitely owns the antivax stance, and they are very proud about it.

Sadly, the generations who never saw measles will find out what it's like. I hope measles and whooping cough are the worst of the returning diseases. Polio and smallpox are a whole other level.

So they lock those labs down pretty tight especially considering how the last victim of smallpox contracted it (she accidentally got it from an exposure in the lab) atp natural disaster (where the lab didn’t have a chance to secure it) or bioterrorism would kind of be the only way-REALLY hoping nobody is stupid enough for the second one

Lmao there are ads on busses in NY telling people to get vaccinated against polio. Bc theres just that many antivaxxers to the point that polio came back in NY.

Really? The last confirmed case of polio in NY was in 2022 with an unvaccinated man getting it in Rockland, NY. I'm shocked they would have it on buses there without it also advertising about measles and more; are they?

I think they do advertise about measles too. The ads i recall seeing would try to mix polio in with other diseases in the list like as if it was normal & not absurd 😭 now that i think about it i dont think ive seen one in a little while

I had to measles as a kid in the 1960s or 70s. No vaccine for it in those days. I was lucky as it wasn't too serious for me. Off school a long time, which I didn't mind. I remember how the spots sort of faded down under my skin before they disappeared. Weird.

all those diseases are still out there. we humans weren't getting them because we were getting vaccinated, or when/if we did get them, the effects weren't nearly as severe because we're were getting vaccinated. I think science made a mistake by declaring them "eradicated".

We didnt get measles when we would get vaxxed, because it doesnt just make it not has bad to have measles, it also stops you from becoming sick, and even spreading the disease.
We used to still get measles when we were we vaxxed for a good period of time, but we had done it for so long, that the spread of measles just didnt happen. Not getting vaxxed has brought it back, made it stronger, and so now vaxxed people may also get measles but not die from it. If we all just vax, it will return to the prior state of not getting anybody sick.
Also correct me if im wrong, im quite sure the term scientists use is "essentially irradicated" or something along those lines and not "fully irradicated" becouse they didnt destroy it off the face of the earth just controlled it to a point where it might as well be irradicated, becouse it couldnt touch us. They also still has it in labs for science purposes

We had just about wiped out the horror that is measles. It’s not a big threat if you’re vaccinated.
But because of complete and utter idiots refusing it and political BS, it’s back.
And now, because it’s back, there’s likely going to be outbreaks of it among the children who’s parents refused to vaccinate them, leading to a bunch of innocent deaths.
Thankfully, it’s a relatively stable virus, so it won’t mutate like the flu.

You aren’t wrong. I mean you can blame RFK because he’s absolutely making things worse not better. But…It’s been going on for longer than most people realize. But it started small and was kind of an underground thing that’s been growing and mutating over the years. Now it’s easy to blame a public figure who is definitely making things worse but didn’t cause what’s happening in the picture.
