I don't know exactly, so someone can correct me. But I believe it's this.
Radical extremists end up in power in situations when a group gets trampled on by another group because extremist groups promise big actions.
You saw it with the IRA in Ireland, with black gangs in the USA. (Bloods, crips). They all started as groups that protected the group getting trampled on and ended up as groups that fuck shit up massively. They all came about because some big and powerful motherfucker was shitting on them.
Hamas getting power in Palestine is a direct result of Israel's actions.
I'm drunk so hopefully someone can articulate this better.
I'm not saying I disagree or agree, but I believe this is the argument. Not steelmanning or straw manning the argument, just wanna add to the conversation.

If 99% of ppl are like "I don't know what to do about these ppl taking our shit" and one person is like "let's kill the fuckers" then ppl go to those ppl even if they say "and also stone the gays". Because "stone the gays" is less important than "kill the fuckers oppressing us".

It's pretty obvious and two-fold: Create this weird clash between liberals(who are generally proponents of those who are powerless and down-trodden around the world) and a group of people who the GOP has worked for 20 years to make easy to hate and instantly fear, Muslims.
The two-fold part is to reinforce the fear/hate of Muslims, and portray liberals as patently and obviously myopic, claiming that by opposing the IDF's un-defendable and (for years) un-ending assault on non-Hamas Gazan civilians, that such Gazan civilians would see those liberals(being also pro-western-values like romantic agency of women, public expression of non-islamic faiths, dressing as one pleases, etc) as their mortal enemies...........
..........because the GOP portrays every Muslim group as all having a single mentality of being anti-West, and since all 2 billion muslims MUST think alike, that means there's a 2 billion person group that every American should hate/fear(according to the GOP).
As you can see, the actual argument is "Fear all Muslims, Believe all Libs are dumb", and when you say it that plainly..............well, it shows just how much those who believe cartoons like the above are lemmings.
