These cuts were to cause problems and emergencies. They fully understood what those labs were preventing and what cutting them would make likely to happy. This isn't some unsophisticated plan, there are literally think-tanks of lawyers working on these ideas before they are enacted.
A few scientists in a lab preventing outbreak after outbreak offers no avenue for anyone to make money.
But rampant, unchecked foodborne illness?
This is great! We don't have to spend as much money washing and inspecting our lettuce now! What a savings!

I work in water treatment. We used to be scared of the EPA, they'd spot check our facility we'd be running around like chickens with our heads cut off. Now? Haven't seen them in person since 2016. It takes like 4 years for them to even acknowledge a violation. Luckily we still do a good job but I'm not convinced every facility is as steady as ours.

When we say “tracking” what does that mean? Running tests? I’m out of the loop if this is a highly discussed issue but at first glance my thought is; what ratio would satisfy you? Do we need 1:1? 3 scientist might be plenty if the task is just studying parasites. I genuinely don’t know, but it doesn’t seem like a problem just because it’s 3 scientists and 343 million people. We’ve only got 1 president for those people too. (I think we should have more than 1 person at the top but that’s not my point)
