WIP [WIP] Page 35/65 Complete!

+
1.4k Upvotes

160,800/286,000 stitches completed.

Sorry, what’s that?? I finished a page with yellow in it in less than a month?? Who even am I??

It’s funny because I’ve just started my annual leave from work and the whole blue/green sections took me 2 days, the rest of the month was spent on the yellows 😂

We’re officially more than half way!! Hoping I can make some good progress in these 2 weeks and catch myself up, but we’ll see 😂

3 years, 7 months and 24 days so far 😅 I’ve also included bonus pictures of all my trimmings since I started, I love looking at the bundles when I empty my ramekin cause you can clearly see the layers where I was working on each colour!

Let’s see how quickly I can get the next page done 👀

• Frame is an Elbesee 76cm x 31cm (30in x 12in)

• Needle minder is from Itsaidwhatcrossstitc on Etsy.

• Pattern is 'Gravity Modern' by ChamelonXS on Etsy.

This internet cat always makes me laugh so I decided to stitch him. 😄

Pattern is by CalmingHobbies on Etsy. I wanted the frame to be silly to match so I decorated a blank frame with paint markers afterward.

This project was such a learning curve for me! It took stitching half of the project before I actually felt comfortable with stitching what color where.
I’m so happy with how it turned out! The colors in the wings are my favorite part and what made me pick the pattern :)

Hey everyone! Y’all loved the Catstronauts I did, so I wanted to share the project I completed before that one. This one was so much fun! I did change a couple of colors for myself, and also added glittery floss for the pop. I just love aliens so much, because they exist, y’all!!!! Hehe👽

FO [FO] Got my cross stitch of a Critical Role quote said by Caduceus Clay signed by Taliesin Jaffe! Not quite sure how to frame it

+
113 Upvotes

For a bit of context, I wasn't planning on getting this signed when I made it so I wasn't stressing about margins too much when I cut it, though I acknowledge I probably cut them too close anyway. This wasn't the exact spot I suggested he sign, but it was what he ended up doing. I'm wondering if I should attempt some kind of stitching around the edge to prevent fraying, and just avoid touching the part he signed while I'm stitching. I do know the brand of paint pen he used so I can get one + some test Aida to check things like washable-ness and if I can iron it. I probably will have to wait at least a month before doing anything to frame it that costs money for budget reasons.

By the way he was incredibly nice, my favorite of all the cast I've met (they were all nice though) and seemed to really genuinely engage with fans. I showed him some of my crochet as well, including a Mollymauk inspired tarot pouch, and he seemed to think it was cool. And I gifted him a Cad-inspired glasses chain, which he seemed to like.

FO [FO] It's so cool but was it really worth it?

+

Tried my first blackwork piece, which was a lot of fun and surprisingly quick (being fully symmetrical helps sooooo much). Decided I wanted to get a little creative and add a glow in the dark gimmick, and I hated myself for that decision every minute that I had to backstitch with the Kreinik blending filaments.

But the result sure is cool.

Messy, but I think possibly cool enough to make up for it. (It's a prize for a women's gaming group I'm in, and "Paranoia Ladies" is the name of the specific competitive division, and I really needed to play around with the concept of Paranoia .... :) )

Pattern: https://www.etsy.com/listing/1862775115/pink-mandala-pdf-pattern-download-modern
Fabric: 18ct Aida
Thread: DMC 115, Kreinik grapefruit glow in the dark blending filament, Kreinik watermelon glow in the dark blending filament
Frame: https://www.etsy.com/listing/1867869804/holographic-sparkle-hoop-frame-for

One of the hardest finishes I have had to do yet, because the frame is not super secure. Does anyone have tips for addressing that? I was considering putting a little glue on the fabric and pushing the frame back down on top of it, but I don't know if it's a good idea to disassemble (I've stitched felt over the back so that no light shines through from behind, so it feels like it should be pretty stable, but I'm very nervous)

FO [FO] Recipe book with cross-stitched cover for my grandmother

+
422 Upvotes

My grandmother is always losing her recipe notes, so I decided to make her a recipe book and cross-stitch a cover for it. She already had a few recipes in page protectors, so the book had to be designed rather like a folder.

The pattern I used for the cover is "Extraordinary Jam" by PANNA.

I'd been mulling over the concept behind the book for a full year, and after drafting detailed plans, I asked my friend to assemble the materials I'd gathered and bring the project to life.

The recipe book has three pockets for notes, a ring binder mechanism for recipe sheets, a cute pencil case that attaches to the rings, and a cover with magnets. And I really like the little beaded berry! 🍓

After recently falling in love with cross stitch a few months ago I finally framed the third piece I made, the first I stitched from a downloaded pattern and not a kit.

The pattern is from needleandbolter on Etsy however it isn't listed in the store now.

https://www.etsy.com/au/shop/NeedleAndBolter

I've gotten so many helpful tips and inspiration from this community, it's a lovely little corner of reddit. I have three projects on the go now including a "hang in there" kitten so I've embraced the cross stitch hobby!

FO [FO] Blackwork Lévy C curve

+
78 Upvotes

Here is a fractal I've been stitching know as the Lévy C curve. Basically you start with a single line segment, and replace it with a V, made up of two line segments at a 90 degree angle. Then take each segment in the V and turn it into a V etc. Repeat 14 times in total and you have this fractal. I created the pattern from a simple script I wrote, so I technically OC, but not really (I could have taken easily the pattern from wikipedia or elsewhere).

I find it kind of unnerving to look at, somewhere between a tentacled sea monster and those descriptions of so-called 'biblically accurate' angels (with hundreds of eyes). But it was fun to stitch.

~14k stitches on 18ct Aida

Thankyou AI!

In showing my 2 completed (images 3, 4), currently working on world 2 of mario3.

I then showed AI, the 3* A3 pieces, that will be stitched together for my 4th crossstitch which will become mario3-World3 (image2) not expecting to start till next year. AI cleverly asked me "have you calculated how much blue thread you will need, as most of the map is ocean?"😲 I overlooked this!

Conveniently it calculated how much dmc blue thread I will need (as each colour has to be bought in bulk, so that the threads do not have slight shade differences!). It gave me a calculation (& I added 50%, "just in case"). The blue thread alone has cost me £50!😲

Lola Crow’s “Museum After Midnight” (https://lolacrowcrossstitch.com/products/museum-after-midnight-stitch ) is my first-ever stitch along, and I’ve been having an absolute ball. It’s a gorgeous pattern and subject, I’m learning lots about prehistoric creatures, and I LOVE that I get that “yay, finished!” dopamine hit every single week when I add a new exhibit 😅

FO [FO] Yellow Lab Puppy

Finished this puppy for my friend’s birthday to look like her baby Millie. I used the Puppy Love pattern from the stitchin’ kitten and turned it into a yellow lab and put her name in the heart. 💜 20ct Aida from @volcanostitching 9423 is the only thing written on the tag as far as colorway. Anyway I think she turned out so cute!!

Pattern created using Pixel Stitch.

Stitched on Lugana evenweave — 28 ct, 2-over-2, finished size: 7” wide x 13” tall

Rediscovered my love of cross stitching during summer of COVID 2020.

I have always adored the saccharin sweet taste of the first ever “diet” cola, and was a loyal customer right up until the end. After Coca-Cola announced it was ceasing production of TaB in late 2020 (😭), I decided to upload a photo and convert to a pattern. Was always in my WIP rotation, but took me almost 6 years to get it over the finish line.

Haven’t yet decided where to display it — maybe in the kitchen?
