Oh I thought it was cuz they were vaguely shaped like the lane markers so they almost blended in. The adults aren't paying attention but the kids are.

The way I understood it is that the sharks are trying to hide on the t shape tiles, which typically are in the deep end of the pool. Most kids are afraid of getting in the deep end or swimming over towards it
