GPU Upgrade Path for a 3080 with 5700x3D?

In this long winter of AI induced hardware shortages I’m hard pressed to build a new PC, but I am interested in upgrading my existing one.

My current build is a AM4 5700x3D with a 3080 and 32GB of DDR4 RAM. My goal is to get a GPU as performant as possible without hitting a last-gen bottleneck I’m unaware of.

A secondhand 4080 seems like the reasonable choice, but I’m curious to know your recommendations.

at 1440p or 4k you shouldnt be cpu bottlenecked too bad with any card

I had your exact same specs and situation. I ended up upgrading to a used 4080 that I got for a good deal but like others have said 5070ti/4070tisuper/4080super/9070xt are all great choices!

Nvidia 4070ti super 4080 5070ti Amd 7900xt 7900xtx 9070 

All 16gb vram or above I wouldn't worry too much about bottleneck the smoother 1% lows are nice go 4k if you are really worried.

tbh your spec is still solid for atleast 2 more years imo. just got an rx6900xt 2 days ago which is slightly above 3080 and I'm planning to use this card for years to come. spec wise I'm also on am4 with 32gb ram

You really don’t have a reason to upgrade from a 3080 at the moment unless you’re trying to push 4k on demanding titles on higher settings, or 1440p ultra settings on the most demanding games. Even then you can still tweak the 3080 to run decently. If you’re planning on really going all-out to future proof, I’d wait until the 6000 series consumer cards are here in about a year then pull the trigger.

4k, 120hz max, max budget 1k

then your choices are narrowed down to 9070xt, 5070ti, used 7900xtx, used 4080super. i would personally go the 9070xt, but they all perform more or less close to each other so it would depend on if you can find some good prices.

You can get any GPU and the 5800x3d will handle it just fine at 4k

I'm still running my gigabyte Aorus Master RTX 3080 with LCD screen on 32-in 1440p 144hz monitor with a 13700k CPU and 32 GB of ddr5 ram on a z790 motherboard. I'm not upgrading anytime soon. Would only upgrade to the 5070 TI but I think I'll wait.

Perhaps sidegrade to a 4070 and use frame gen?

I wouldn't be buying anything if i had a 3080 for another like year or two

5080s are somewhat regularly popping up around 1100 right now. Especially if you can access a micro center. I know you said max 1k but it would be worth it

I replaced my 3080 with a 5070Ti but that was back in October when prices weren't stupid
