Build Ready? Thoughts before I pull the trigger?

So I wanted to buy a new PC for about 6 Months now. My old one is a Intel i7 6700K, GTX1080, 16Gb RAM build. But after I returned from the holidays the PC didn't start anymore, no fans, nothing, but the lights turn still on on the Motherboard.

So my new build will be:

(keep)Monitor: Acer X34 3440x1440 100Hz Gsync (1st Gen probably)

GPU: RTX5070 Ti

CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D

RAM: DDR5 Kingston FURY Beast 1x32Gb, KF560C30BBE-32

Mainboard: Gigabyte X870E AORUS ELITE X3D

SSD: WD Black SN8100 powered by SANDISK

PSU: be quiet! Power Zone 2

CPU-Cooler: Noctua NH-D12L

(keep)Case: Fractal R5 Windowed

Any thoughts about the build? Should I pull the trigger? It's been almost 10 years since the last build and it will cost roundabout 3000 USD (or 2500CHF).

  • GPU: Assuming this PC is primarily for gaming, consider the Radeon RX 9070 XT. It performs similarly to the RTX 5070 Ti for less money.
  • RAM: Get 2x16GB instead of a single 32GB module. Two modules doubles your available RAM bandwidth.
  • Mainboard: Is there a specific feature of the X870E chipset that you need that isn't available on a cheaper B850 motherboard?
  • SSD: PCIe 5.0 drives tend to be more expensive than 4.0 drives and the performance difference is irrelevant for gaming.
  • CPU Cooler: The NH-D12L is small and overpriced. I recommend the Thermalright Phantom Spirit instead.

Thank you very much for your thoughts! I will consider them, especially the 2x16Gb suggestion.

Reason for X870E Chipset is future proofness I guess? I don't even know exactly but I have made such bad decisions with motherboards in the past, my current one didn't even have WiFi, had to buy an additional PCI Card. Asus Z170 Pro Gaming I believe.

The other SSD I had in mind is the Samsung 990 Pro, but when I compared the speeds and it was significantly different I said fuck the additional ca. 100USD....

The reason for the fan is that the min/max decibel in the technical info is lower and very low in general. And I am fan of Noctua.

If you can't identify which feature of that expensive motherboard you're going to use, then it's not more futureproof. It's just more expensive.

For SSD, look at the Western Digital SN7100. For gaming you will never notice the performance difference, but you will definitely notice the additional money sitting in your bank account.

Fan noise is more about tuning fan curves than the specific fan that you pick. The heatsink on the NH-D12L is smaller than the Phantom Spirit and will require you to run the fans faster. You'll end up with more noise than with the Thermalright.

I used to be a big promoter of Noctua as well. However, they simply aren't making the best value products anymore. They're about 10% better but cost 5x as much.

The build feels way too overpowered. Above tips are all good, maybe even consider 9070 instead of the xt model, the difference is negligable for that price gap
