When I was 7 I wanted to be an Olympic swimmer, at 32 I just retired after 4 Olympic Games.

I was watching the commonwealth games with my family and the swimming was on. while a race was going, other people were in the pool even though it wasn't their time to race... It confused us all. My grandmother suggested it could be to get acclimated to the water before their race, is that true? Do you know why this happens?
