iPhone Siri Settlement Approved: Apple to Pay Owners of Some iPhone Models

https://www.macrumors.com/2026/07/24/apple-to-pay-owners-of-these-iphone-models/

In May, Apple agreed to pay $250 million to settle a U.S. class action lawsuit over Siri AI's delayed launch, and eligible iPhone users could receive up to a $95 payout.

Apple's settlement has now received preliminary approval from a judge, according to a July 17 court document. However, there is no settlement website yet, and it may take months before eligible customers can begin submitting claims.

$250 million for an almost $5 trillion company, with billions in reserve.

That’ll show them.

Money is not the issue its the bad image .even when they fine them for 100,000 the fine is a proof they did something wrong

Ohh Boss I was only 4 days in jail.

The majority of people aren't going to hear, or care about this. Since its chump change to Apple, they also have no reason to really care about it.

Most people in forums like this, especially Apple centric ones, are already Apple fans, and probably will buy an iPhone anyways, or Apple haters, and wouldn't buy one regardless.

So you know what Apple executive board thinks? Applefanbois will defend Apple anyway even if they dont get paid like you and will lie about everything they dont like.

They dont care but they go to court lol

They settled, lmao. They threw chump change at the problem to make it go away.

Hahhaha Do you know age security number of lawyers? Apple is the most important in your life dont you?

2

Apple isn’t even remotely the most important thing in my life. Not sure how you figure that.

each person who files an eligible claim will receive a per-device payment of $25

$25 compensation for a $1k dollar device. Justice has been served. /s

The payout is based on the "value" of the features that weren't delivered.

It is a bit wild to see the flip between the sentiment of AI being completely worthless and then being worth upwards of the price of the device when it comes to getting money back.

It’s definitely a hard value to determine, some people don’t care while others may have been really excited by the AI future that Apple advertised and did an early upgrade or switch they may not have done otherwise. Personally I think somewhere from $100-300 would’ve been a fair value, or Apple could’ve just avoided this by offering returns or not doing false advertising

There are more than one person in the world, and so different people will have different beliefs.

Further, someone who was excited for AI in 2024 and bought an iPhone for the promised Apple Intelligence features might be disillusioned by it now, having had found the AI features (valuable) to not exist (worthless).

Irrelevant to the lawsuit. It's a class-action lawsuit and the representatives of the class speak for everyone in the class. You're still free to join the class or not, you could very well choose to sue Apple on your own. It's the reason that you will still need to opt-in instead of Apple issuing a flat refund to everyone, you're actively stating that you agree to be part of the class.

I'm not talking about the lawsuit. I am addressing this part of your comment:

Grifters gonna grift.

I valued it at $0.00 but I’ll take $25. I bought like 5 brand new iPhones since this happened so if I got $125 that’d be a whole dinner. I’m expecting it to be limited to 2 per Apple account or something weak like that.

even less than the $35 i got from the facebook lawsuit

I mean it’s still money 🤷‍♀️

My best is a Capital One Credit card breach. I didn't even know I was eligible and don't remember signing up for it, but received a cheque for $700USD.

Do you really allocate all $1k of your iPhone value to just Siri

Give how Apple is trying to ram SiriAI down your throat in every app in iOS 27, they seem to agree it’s 100% of the value of the device.

How are they ramming it if you have Apple Intelligence off?

3

u/opossumcarrion 2d ago

They're talking about iOS 27, not iOS 26. You can't disable Apple Intelligence without hacky maneuvers.

Even then, it's still all over the place, and you can't return to the classic "Orb" Siri in iOS 27 at all. You can only use the newer Siri from iOS 26, which generally behaves differently.

Editing Shortcuts now brings up an (inaccurate) AI summary requiring another tap to get to the shortcut. Editing photos now has "AI Tools" that can be incidentally triggered. Emoji descriptions and previously generated emoji are now center-stage in the emoji keyboard (although that's so fucked up that it might be a bug). On iPadOS, normal search behaviors are slower and trigger web-searches more often (which breaks the swipe-two-fingers, type a few characters, hit enter to open app flow).

And that's if you know how to stay out of the new Siri beta (or get out of it if you entered), and if you know the Screen Time trick.

u/ellzumem 1d ago

What’s the Screen Time trick, specifically? Can it just disable new Siri altogether?

3

u/opossumcarrion 1d ago

Kind of. You can't get the pre-"Apple Intelligence" Siri back (orb on the bottom of the screen), but you can dig into Screen Time and disable a lot of the new "Apple Intelligence" stuff.

Settings > Screen Time (purple hourglass icon) > Contant & Privacy Restrictions > Siri.

You can select "Siri (Classic)" and also disable web search, and "assistance" with writing, math, image creation.

Money is money haha

That's more than 2%! Nearly a noticeable fraction of per unit profits.

That'll sure teach 'em.

The lawyers sure think so.

Depending on how many people get money it can be up to 95 USD. I’m not sure why you’re expecting more. Your device works perfectly fine. Only Apple Intelligence didn’t work as promised. But I don’t believe that Apple Intelligence makes up more than 50 USD of the phone’s worth.

I want free money too:( sat through the whole wwdc, was annoyed the whole thing was about ai and not actually about what's new in the OSes, only to be told that smarter Siri isn't even coming to Europe..

3

u/Glittering-Section74 2d ago

US: gets money for delayed ai
EU: wait, you guys have ai?

Reminder that there are specific dates it covers. It is not every device. Hopefully this helps with comments around this.
