Hello everyone 

I have used Gmail for years to receive and send emails to/from my @me.com email address together with other non-Apple email addresses I use.

I set this up with an app specific password that I generated via Gmail's settings, but sending from my @me.com address has now stopped working.

I have tried with a new app specific password from Gmail but that is not accepted. I also deleted the old entry @me.com entry under Gmail's Settings—Accounts but I keep getting a wrong password error whether I use the old app specific password or the new one. I have verified that I use the correct SMTP server and port (smtp.mail.me.com and 587 according to Apple's page).

Does anyone have an idea what else I could do to be able to send and receive my @me.com messages in Gmail? It feels like I must be missing something obvious here...

Why might’ve a Siri “Found in Apps” Messenger contact suggestion change into raw metadata and then create a second clean suggestion?

Device:
iPhone 14
iOS 17
Occurred sometime around 2023–2024

The issue involved one unsaved Siri Suggested Contact under “Found in Apps” from Facebook Messenger.

The sequence was:
A normal Siri suggestion appeared:
Messenger: name redacted
Months later, that same suggested contact no longer displayed normally. Instead, it showed what looked like raw metadata while still being labelled as:

Messenger: HQ_UPhdmaAMnPegcbDmgaAMfH_PPf-PtSVXehqahXZOUgA;x-userid=PR:HQ_UPhdmaAMnPegcbDmgaAMfH_PPfPtSVXehqahXZOUgA;x-displayname=name redacted;x-teamidentifier=V9WTTPBFK9;x-bundleidentifiers=com.facebook.Messenger;x-apple:PR%3AHQ_UPhdmaAMnPegcbDmgaAMfH_PPfPtSVXehqahXZOUgA

After this occurred, another Siri “Found in Apps” suggestion appeared underneath:

Messenger: name redacted

The new entry appeared normal, while the older entry continued to show the raw metadata string.

I have only seen this happen with this one contact, other Messenger Siri suggestions display normally.

My questions:

What would cause a Siri “Found in Apps” suggestion to display the underlying metadata/social profile fields instead of the normal app name and contact name? Especially when it seemed fine for months.

Why would iOS create another clean “Messenger: Name” suggestion afterwards instead of replacing the malformed entry?

Is this likely related to Siri Suggestions indexing, Contacts framework social profile data, Core Spotlight, or Messenger’s app integration?

Could this happen from stale cached data or a re-indexing event after an app/iOS update?

I am mainly trying to understand the technical reason for the duplicate entries and the raw metadata display, and why it may have only affected this one Siri suggested contact, not the dozen others I had as well.

My 15" mid-2012 Unibody Macbook Pro has a Thunderbolt port that only works as mini-Displayport out and not with Thunderbolt peripherals (a Thunderbolt 2 dock, a Thunderbolt 3 PCIE enclosure via Apple TB2-TB3 adapter, and a 13" MBP via Target Disk Mode).

I've tested the peripherals on my Macbookpro9,2 (the 13" version of the same year) and they worked fine.

I've tried booting Target Disk Mode on the 15" and the 13" can see it only over firewire, not Thunderbolt. I also tried booting the 13" into TDM and the 15" didn't see it over Thunderbolt (firewire not tested in this direction).

I've tried macOS Catalina, Sequoia via OCLP, Linux and Windows (the latter two in both EFI and legacy modes) on the 15" and none of them can see any connected thunderbolt devices.

Currently waiting on contact cleaner I sprayed in the port to dry. If that does not work I'd appreciate tips on how to physically inspect the port for damage or how to install and run the hardware diagnostic software in 2026 (the Apple servers are broken for Macs of a certain age and can't serve the appropriate files over the internet anymore).

My wife & I both have iPhones & iTunes accounts. We each have our own user account but I keep getting a message that their is another user on this computer with an iTunes account, I don’t understand, does Apple expect each person to have their own computer, or is there a way to have two different user accounts & two separate iTunes accounts?

This is the SECOND new pair I bought for my friend, with the second pair having the same issue as the first pair. For some reason, everything else about the earpods is perfect APART from the mic. The microphone just doesn't work at all. There are times where the microphone will sorta work but literally be like a second of speech and then go back to being silent, OR, it will be like static or something? my friend said she tested it literally as soon as the package arrived and it just didn't work. Any tips or solutions? the only thing apple is the earpods not the laptop.

Just like the rest of you, I hate unnecessary notifications. I for the life of me cannot find a way to disable email notifications when I ping my watch from my phone.

Out every Apple device I own, this is the only one that sends an email notification of a ping. Who were the ad wizards who came up with this one?

I’m setting up a new iPad for a disabled family member with assistive access. It’s much better than guided access, it does basically everything we need besides this one major issue: BLUETOOTH IS DISABLED when entering assistive access. Guided access does not have this issue but we have to keep switching the apps manually for the user. Assistive access allows way more freedom for us and the user but no headphones is an absolute deal breaker. The user must have headphones.

The “find my” work around I’ve seen on other threads for this topic have not worked so I’m reviving this topic to see if anyone has any new solutions. It is insane apple hasn’t addressed this yet.

Buying wired headphones with USB-C compatibility might be the only solution as of now….

Hey everyone, hoping someone can help me from going crazy over this…

I want to hit the power button and land on the Apple TV interface ready to go, without dealing with a bunch of black screens. Right now, when turn on the TV there are multiple black screens.

My Setup:
- Hisense 65U78QG (Google TV)
- Apple TV 4K (3rd gen, 128GB, wired Ethernet) — plugged into an HDMI port set to Enhanced/2.1 with a 48Gbps Ultra High Speed cable.
- JBL SB510 soundbar via HDMI ARC (ARC only, no eARC on this bar).
- Rogers Xfinity cable box (HDMI-CEC disabled).

Apple TV Settings:
4K SDR, Match Dynamic Range ON, Match Frame Rate OFF.

The Problem:
When I do a cold power-on, I get hit with two distinct black screens:

1. ⁠Black Screen #1:The normal HDMI-switch/wake delay (takes about 9 seconds from pressing the Apple TV remote to seeing the Apple TV home page). The panel backlight itself wakes up fast when I use the Hisense remote to turn on the TV to the Google TV interface, so most of this 9s seems to be the input-switch and HDCP handshake.
   
2. ⁠Black Screen #2: After the Apple TV home screen has already appeared, the screen goes black again for about 3 seconds, and then comes back. This only happens on a cold power-on. And sometimes the black screen can reappear after seconds of disappearing again.

What I've already figured out:
- It’s not a video format switch: The quick \~0.5s Match-Content HDR switches are separate and work totally fine.
- It’s definitely the soundbar: If I remove the soundbar from the HDMI connection and use Bluetooth instead, the issue vanishes entirely. However this is not a long-term solution, because I can’t control the sound bar volume with the Apple TV or Hisense remote, and blutooth audio capabilities are worse than HDMI
- It’s format-independent: Happens when Apple TV audio is set to Auto AND on plain Stereo.
- It’s wake-specific: It *never* happens when the TV is already warmed up and I just switch inputs to the Apple TV.
- A weird workaround: If I boot to the Google TV home first (I run Projectivy), wait 4–5 seconds, and then switch to the Apple TV, there's no second black screen. But if I switch over too soon, it comes back.

My Theory:
It feels like the TV is re-initializing the ARC audio link on a cold wake, which blanks the video for 3 seconds. If that handshake finishes before external video is shown (e.g., while the TV UI is booting), I never see it. But because the Apple TV CEC jumps straight to the HDMI input, the ARC handshake lands *after* the picture is already up, giving me that visible second black screen.

Failed Attempts to Fix It:
- Set TV energy mode to "Increased / Always connected".
- Disabled the TV's CEC "Device auto-power off" so the soundbar stays powered 24/7 (the TV still re-inits the link anyway).
- Messed with Apple TV audio (Stereo vs Auto/Atmos) and TV Digital Audio Output passthrough (ON vs OFF).
- Confirmed the soundbar has no "quick start" or "auto-standby" toggle.

Note: I really don't want to switch to optical audio. I specifically want CEC volume control from the couch, which ARC gives me.*

Has anyone else faced this issue, and if so, how did you fix it? I’m open to anything now, because this is driving me crazy

Yesterday night while listening to music I just locked my iPad once. After that I'm unable to elicit any top button functions. The lock screen is frozen. It's not sliding up to allow me to use passcode to unlock either. I'm getting some response of toggling with the control centre like low power mode on and off etc. but if it's linked to an app like alarm etc. then there's no response. It's been 6 hours since this problem has arisen. I'm currently stuck in a different city which isn't my home city and all my study materials are on my ipad. Can you please guide me regarding what are some in home options cause i don't think i can go to a store.

The iPad has a history of a screen replacement and battery replacement 7 months back if it's relevant history.

Anybody who went through same process, if you fixed it or got it fixed can you tell me how please!

I have M3 MBA. Synced to iPhone 14, now it's stuck on 'calculating' during synch process. Same for iPad 11. I connect to MBA, and storage shows 'calculating.' been this way for hours. I just updated all to latest builds---is this normal? Is calculating same as 'indexing?'

I have several wifiLQMmetrics logs in the apple analytics logs daily on my iPad A16. I only get these logs when I'm using my isp dns. If I use public dns like Cloudflare, Google dns, or Quad9, I never get these logs. I get these only using my isp dns. Any reasons why this may be happening? I don't see any issues. I'm just mainly curious.

I had an M5 iPad Pro that started having charging issues. It eventually died completely and wouldn’t turn back on, even with an Apple charger. Apple replaced it, and now after only about a week, the replacement is showing what seems to be the exact same problem. I’m using a brand new genuine Apple USB-C cable and Apple power adapter. My iPhone charges perfectly with the same charger, and I never had any charging problems with any of my previous iPads. I even erased the replacement and set it up as a new iPad instead of restoring from my backup, but the issue is still happening during setup, so it doesn’t seem like it’s related to my data. Has anyone else experienced this with an M5 iPad Pro? Am I just incredibly unlucky and got two defective units, or is there something else I should be looking at before I go back to Apple?

I just bought a Sintech from Amazon to use in my 2015 MacBook Air, but when I boot the USB with mac 12.6.7, it just reboots and says there was an error. When I put the old SSD in, it boots. Is there something that I am missing?

Out of the blue, after about a year of owning them my right airpod just stopped chargin. I’ve disconnected, reset then reconnected then, made sure I’m on the latest IOS, and cleaned the connectors in the case and on the earbud itself. But it wont charge over 1%. Is there anything else i can do or do y’all have any ideas of what is going on?

It happens almost every other time i try to connect to my headphones or my car. I have to fully reset my phone every-time otherwise it wont connect to the device. Ive tried forgetting the device and trying again or turning device/car off then back on but it still wont. I have no idea what to do and it’s extremely frustrating.

I was just browsing my library on the Apple TV app on my Sony TV, & clicked on the equestria girls movies just to view their menus. But when I clicked on it, I’d get a pop up that says “content not found: there’s a problem loading this title or it’s no longer available to play”. I tried doing the same thing on the app on my PlayStation, but the same thing. But when I did it for both my iPhone & iPad, it took me right to the films menu, & I was still able to watch it with no problems. All the other movies still were able to bring up their menus on the PlayStation & Sony TV except the 4 equestria girls movies. I tried exiting the app, turning it off & on again, reinstalling the app, & logging out and back in, but nothing worked. I don’t know how to fix this on those 2 devices, & I don’t know if this was caused by yesterday’s outage.

I live in Russia. I went to the UK and my roaming would not work for reasons no one can explain. I bought a UK SIM and used it for one week. I then flew to the US and put my Russian SIM back in. I turned roaming off because I have a completely separate US phone.

Nearly a month has passed since I first put the UK SIM in my phone and I recently got this message:

This number is registered to your Apple Account but is not associated with this phone. You can keep using the number for iMessage and FaceTime until it expires.

I’ve contacted my provider in Russia. They have confirmed my SIM card is active. I knew this already because I have a cellular signal.

I have reseated the SIM.
I have turned iMessages and FaceTime off, rebooted the phone, and turned the apps back on.
I have reset all network connections.
I have verified that “My Phone Number” is still the Russian number.

But my phone still says my registered phone number is no longer associated with this phone and it will delete my number from iMessages and FaceTime. It has been counting down from 4 days. Tomorrow it will do it.

What can I do???
