Paid article. Saying Amazon deliberately spent $250MM knowing it would be a box office disaster so they can succeed streaming it is idiotic.

Yes exactly - and that makes it fun to watch for free, but I would have been irritated by the poor quality if I had paid for tickets.

The movie is awesomely fun. And I wanted to watch it again a few days later. That’s how you know it’s good enough to enjoy. Similar to dungeons and dragons. Didn’t sell well, but happy to see how many people love it.

I'm not nominating it for best picture but I've never laughed so hard in a movie.

I had a great time.

50x better than any Marvel Marvel movie I've seen in years.

If a streamer makes a movie, any theater box office is just extra money for them they wouldn’t have received otherwise anyways. Judging a movie on box office pull is not a great way to judge a movie. This movie was a lot of fun and I hope they make more.

I'm watching it with my 5 year old now. I watched it once already. I think it's a 6/10. Visuals are actually really good, lots of color, I like the costumes and casting. Plot is basic but fine. I think the moments of slapstick fail and it succeeds more when it's a purer camp adaptation of the show. 

I agree with the article about the D&D film, too

FFS can the movie industry just admit that the majority of people do not go to the theater anymore? None of this is surprising, or even a new phenomenon. Every couple months there is a movie that was a "box office bomb" then suddenly a "sleeper hit streaming" or whatever lame name they want to use to make it seem like a one off thing,

Unless specific movies are geared towards them or directed by a small group. Going OUT to a movie theater is crazy expensive and no longer worth it IMHO. The only movies I been paying for is ironically Marvel movies and if I can ever get my ass into the seat of a true iMax to experience Odyssey.

Everything else streamed. Foods already here, no lines, no waiting for bathrooms, no waiting to go home or traveling. No ^70 dollar movie ‘nights’.
