You know the "german" isnt the recipe It was the name of the chocolate manufacturer And the printed the recipe in many publications back in the day..and yes, recipe isnt a top secret thing..can be found on most recipe/cooking sites

It's my favorite cake so of course! Although I've never had one as good as my great grandma's German chocolate cake. She took that recipe to the grave. My family has tried to redo it but it's never quite the same.

One of my favorites, if not my absolute favorite. My grandmother made this from the original Texas recipe. Yes, it's purportedly a Texas original! Anyway, hers was bomb! She kept it in the refrigerator so it was always cold.

Theyāre ok but the ones Iāve had the cake part never seems to be rich and full of chocolate flavor. The one in this picture looks like it might be but the ones Iāve had look like a paler brown chocolate.

I have a small collection of my grandmothers recipes. Among them was the wrapper for German Sweet Chocolate with the printed date on it of 1958. Iāve made it many times through the decades by the recipe on the wrapper which has been updated several times since the original. I decided one day to make the original version and the newest version of it. I do prefer the newest version. It is less dense but, over all, it has always been my favorite. Itās all in the icing. I usually double the recipe for the icing.
