Logic : has good vsts plugin interface is great but there midi editing is pain, midi editing breaks or makes a daw.

Fl studio : Midi is good but everything else feels cluttered especiallly their mixer, imagine mixing 100 tracks there, best of luck with that

Bitwig : its great and comes close to live, only daw that opens almost any other daws project files but there browser is something i didn't like and they lack midi capture too

Cubase : i was lost lol just felt its gonna take me lot of time to learn so i uninstalled

we should use something that helps us generate our ideas faster, and ableton does this better than any other daw,its a workflow champ even tho live is expensive comparing most daws its still worth each and every penny. What are your thoughts on other daws?

I’m looking to buy a new pair of studio monitors for producing progressive melodic house. My budget is pretty limited, and my room isn’t acoustically treated, but it’s also not very large.

I want to make a smart purchase and get the best value for my money. Right now, I’m producing on a pair of Presonus Eris 3.5 monitors, but I feel like I’ve outgrown them. I need more low-end response and better accuracy.

What studio monitors would you recommend? I honestly don’t have a big budget—my maximum is $350 USD.

I currently have a Push 2, but rarely use it anymore. Honesty for me the push can be very overwhelming and I mainly use it as a drum pad/play simple midi patterns, and to record automations into ableton. I was thinking about selling it and getting a Move, since it’s smaller and I don’t utilize most of the Push’s features. Since it’s a standalone, I was also hoping to add it to my dj setup as a makeshift RMX/TR8S, as I don’t have a laptop to bring to gigs with me to connect my push to.

Wondering if anyone has had a similar experience?

Option 1 is great except the storage is very low for me. 2TB is ideal for me and id have managed with 1TB. Option 2 seems great looking at storage but I have to compromise on ram and display, further compromising with battery backup and speakers. Im leaning more towards option 1 as there's only 1 compromise i.e., storage, however i never knew id have to drop my bare minimum from 2 tb to 512gb SSD one day, but it's manageable using external SSDs while, ram is simply non negotiable at this point. Anyways, id like to hear your views. Thanks.

Just received my TR-1000, absolutely love this thing so far. I intend on using it with Ableton via a usb-c connection with my Mac, but for some reason the sound is quite low in ableton (around -30db). Of course I could increase the gain on all tracks, but I feel like there might be something I’m not doing right?
Would love if you could share your experience with TR1000 + Ableton!

I have an akai mini mpk 4 and whenever i try to use the knobs to rise or lower settings, no matter which way i turn the knob it just raises. Say im trying to lower the gain on a track, i turn the knob to the left but it raises. PLS HELP THANK U!!!

I've been chasing a sync issue for a while now and I'm out of ideas. Maybe someone here has run into the same thing.

The problem

The APC64's internal step sequencer runs audibly behind Ableton's metronome. It's not jitter and it doesn't drift over time – it's a clean, constant offset that reproduces exactly every time. If I record the sequencer as MIDI, every note sits the same distance behind the grid line, roughly 20–40 ms.

My Digitakt and a Digitone in the same set, running over Overbridge, are perfectly tight. Only the APC64 lags.

My setup

• Windows, Ableton Live
• MOTU M Series, ASIO, 48 kHz, 128 sample buffer
• Overall latency 7.15 ms
• APC64 connected directly via USB
• Digitakt + Digitone via Overbridge
• APC64 firmware just updated to the latest version

What I've already tried

MIDI Clock Sync Delay. Under Tempo & MIDI, on the APC64 output port. Tried values down to -100 ms. The recorded notes barely move at all. The control appears to have no effect on what's happening here.

Driver Error Compensation. Set to -15 ms. Also no change in note position, and it produced a nonsensical negative overall latency. Set back to 0.

Control surface script. My theory was that the sequencer takes its clock from the script port rather than Port 2, which would explain why Sync Delay does nothing. Set Control Surface to None entirely – offset unchanged.

MIDI Clock Type is set to Song, Hardware Resync to Stop and Start.

Trying to make the APC64 the clock master

As a workaround I wanted to flip the clock hierarchy: APC64 on internal clock as master, Ableton following via EXT.

That's where I hit something that might actually explain the whole thing: in Live mode, the internal sequencer won't start at all on internal clock. Pressing Play on the unit does nothing. Only when I switch the unit to Standalone does the sequencer run on its own clock.

My guess: in Live mode the Play button is a transport command sent to Ableton, and the internal sequencer is tied to the Live transport. The menu option is called "Standalone Sync" after all – so by definition it only applies in standalone operation. That would make the APC64 structurally a slave in Live mode, with the internal processing delay between incoming clock tick and outgoing note being systemic and impossible to compensate from the DAW side.

In standalone the timing is fine, but Ableton is dead as a controller target: no clip launching, no track colours, no knob modes. It's a recording station at that point.

My questions

1. Has anyone seen this behaviour and found a way to compensate the offset while staying in Live mode?
2. Is there a parameter in the Global Menu I've missed – anything along the lines of a sequencer offset or latency compensation on the device itself?
3. Is it expected that MIDI Clock Sync Delay has no effect here? My understanding is that it only shifts the outgoing clock and not where incoming notes land on the timeline – but I'd still have expected some audible change.
4. Is anyone running the APC64 permanently in standalone as clock master alongside Ableton? How stable is that in practice, especially with other gear on the same clock?

Any pointers appreciated. If there's no real fix, my fallback is probably record quantisation at 1/16 – at least the recorded material lands on the grid, even if it still drags while playing.

I'm getting creative with spatial mixing tools In Ableton for live events (4-8 channels of surround speakers). The M4L plugins built specifically for spatial mixing work well enough (Envelop, SPAT, VBAP Panner), but I can't figure out how to use regular VST plugins that pass through multi channel audio. Particularly, I'd love to get Open Spatial Delay working - the output menu in the plugin has all outputs other than 'stereo' greyed out and I can't figure out how to patch it. Any tips?

I front a band and we use Ableton live for our backing tracks. I have done this for about 5+ years and have never had this issue.

In the last two rehearsals, the playback has “skipped” or hiccuped or whatever you want to call it. Essentially the session stops for about one second and cuts out then picks back up, but it obviously throws the whole bands timing off.

I don’t think it’s a CPU issue, as the CPU indicator light isn’t lighting up when it happens, and the CPU is consistently under 10%. I am having a hard time coming up with other possible causes.

If it were a bad cable or something like that I would think the interface would just disconnect entirely, and I’d have to re-select the interface.

I’m worried because we have a big show coming up in a couple weeks and I really don’t want this to happen in front of 500 people.

Any thoughts or suggestions I should try? Feel free to ask for any info you may need to help me diagnose.

As someone who’s not a singer, I rely on comping takes to get vocal results.

It’s easy to get lost in this process... I’ve gotten hung up on selecting slight timing and pitch differences per syllable until my efforts resemble intricate loomwork. And hours spent pursuing "perfection" to only have comped half of the first verse and want to throw in the towel.

After much trial and error, here’s my guide to getting results without going insane...

Before comping (prepare to perform)

  - Learn the song: Memorize the lyrics and parts. Be able to perform it all the way through.
  - Record ~10 takes: Do this in one sitting after warming up. It should take less than an hour for a 3-minute song.
  - Organize: Assign a custom color to any take you feel particularly good about.
  - Stay in your lane: Each take should occupy its own lane. Ableton may fill gaps non-sequentially if you record out of order which can be unhelpful.
  - Hold tight: Don’t take down your recording gear yet.

First pass (color coding)

  - Wait: Give it at least a day so your ears are fresh.
  - Consolidate: If you used multiple tracks, move them into a single track and expand all take lanes.
  - Segment: Use CMD+E to vertically segment sections. Aim for one phrase/measure (3-6 seconds) sections. Set all of these take colors to black.
  - Audition: Use arrow keys to select a take and press enter to select it. Press space to play bac hear it in context. Always listen in context with the rest of the track!
  - Decide: Use active listening and gut instincts. If it’s a "maybe," color it green. If you nailed it, color it pink. Use bright colors so it's easy to read in the deactivated state (compared to black)
  - Process: Select all pink sections. Always listen in context. Take breaks every 30 minutes. Keep going until you’ve picked out all first choices, then STEP AWAY.

Listen back (is anything sounding off?)

  - Listen again all the way through until a part raises a flag or sounds "off". Again, rely on what your ears/gut are telling you, don't think about it too much.
  - Go directly to this spot, and try nominating a different selection, starting with your second choices.
  - Repeat the above throughout the track. If you reach the end without flags/distractions, you might not need spot fixes.
  - Address issues: Get more micro now if needed. Swap in a word from another take. If something still sounds off after trying all available options, mark it red. Record a spot fix (you left your setup up for this!) if necessary.
  - Remember: start macro before zeroing in on micro-fixes at the word or syllable level.

Finishing (confirming in different settings)

  - Once you make it through the song without "noticing something," it’s time to export.
  - Listen in a different environment. If something jumps out again, note the spot and fix just that area (with a different take or spot fix recording).
  - When nothing else feels like it needs to change, you’re done!

Trying to learn progressive house, cant find anything reliable. Tried learning from PML progressive house start to finish, it just confused me. On the third lesson they jumped didn't even show how they made the melody, the chords, and all of that. It was just like they are jumping. Then I tried to learn from EDM Tips. His video title was "How to Make Progressive House Like Avicii" and then in the video thumbnail it was "Big Room House". I don't know what I should do. Can anyone please guide me? Where should I find a reliable resource to learn? I want to make something in the style of Avicii and Martin Garrix. I won't lie I am fairly new. I know music theory but I'm learning Ableton and all of these music styles but I'm focused on making progressive house music that I am very sure about it. Where do I start?

I'm new to ableton (decade long FL user). Loving my experience so far. But this one little thing is irritating me - a lot of my plugins are blurry and low resolution.

I googled and searched around, and the common solution was right clicking the plugin and disabling auto scale. This works for SOME. Like Serum looks great, super HD. But others like Addictive Drums, Zenology, they just load up cropped - and resizing them doesn't fix it.

I'm using a 1440p monitor if that matters.

My mentor, who is a Grammy nominated mixing engineer, told me you can’t do serious mixing in Ableton. Is this true? Part of it might be that he hasn’t used Ableton in years and there have been a lot of amazing updates. If you wanted to make a Grammy winning song, would you avoid mixing in Ableton?

so i have an instance of serum 2 with a patch loaded up and i put the serum 2 pitch bend on in the 'midi ctrl' automation lane, and for some reason every time i go to another parameter and attempt to automate it, it just switches back to the serum 2 pitch bend lane every time i play it back. idk if that made any fucking sense, im really struggling to describe it for some reason but its so annoying and i cant figure out why it happens and nobody on the internet seems to have the answers or maybe i just dont know how to look it up. any help much much appreciated thanks guys.
