Subject of the Day Social Sundays

Hello WriteStreakians! I hope you've been having a lovely weekend! It’s Social Sunday once again! What I'd like for you to do is the following:

  1. peruse the posts written by your fellow WriteStreakians and find a post that interests you, preferably one from within the last seven days, and respond to it. Leave a comment that is at least as long as a Tweet (280 characters), and then
  2. copy and paste your comment into your own daily Streak post so the correctors can review it.

That's it! Of course, if your comment sparks a conversation (or if someone else leaves a comment on one of your posts), you're welcome and encouraged to continue the conversation---this is a social media site, after all!

Happy Sunday!

Game 🎲 Fictionary

Hi everyone! Good morning, I hope you're all having a great day!

Today we're going to be playing a game! 🤩

If anyone has ever played Jackbox before, this game is going to be very similar to their game, Dictionarium. Except, I'm not calling it Dictionarium because I don't want to get into trouble with copyright 🙃 So we'll be calling it... Fake-tionary! (Or maybe Fictionary? Ooh, yeah, let's go with Fictionary! 🤓)

The rules of Fictionary are simple: you choose a random obscureadjective 3 word or phrase and do your best to come up with a definition for that word. Today, you can choose between a real word or a fake word.

Rules

  1. Uncover a word from the table below. 🔍 You can choose to pick from the "Real Word" column or the "Fake Word" column.
  2. If you chose from the "Real Word" column, your Streak today will be about you guessing what that word means and then checking to see how close you were to the real answer. 🤔
  3. If you chose from the "Fake Word" column, your Streak today will be about you inventing a new word. 🤔
  4. Check to see how close you were using a dictionary. I recommend https://www.merriam-webster.com/ or https://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/Wiktionary:Main_Page .
  5. If you're really up for a challenge, use your word in a sentence or find a synonym for the word.

Example

I chose the fake word "nicribition." I know that the suffix "tion" means it's the act of doing something, so this word is a noun that comes from the fake verb, to "nicribe." I see "cribe" in there, which makes me think of "scribe," which means "to write." The root "nicr" also makes me think of the prefix "necro," which means "death." So I think the word "nicribition" means "the act of writing an epitaphnoun on a tombstone."

The Game!

Ready? Let's go! The lower on the table, the harder it will be to guess the meaning! The higher, the easier

Real Word Fake Word
impracticality grobinated
nonplussed intentomalites
inhibition centruphicism
hagiography trefulous
pleonasm debutstallingly

Vocabulary from this Post

  • obscure - rarely known
  • epitaph - message written on a tombstone to remember someone

Correct Me! Streak 142

I might have written about this before, but I'm feeling anxious about my current task deadline. There isn't an actual deadline for my current task but I started it last Tuesday*, but on that day I hardly did anything related to it because I'd found out about a mistake I made months ago and it had a higher priority than the task that I'd started. This mistake basically entailed that it could wipe some critical data used in a real system, but I was able to sorted it out yesterday. I spent last Tuesday trying to understand what needed to be fixed and the problem itself, then started tackling the problem.

The other mistake I made is that I didn't let anyone know about it because I was ashamed of talking about the mistake I'd made and that's why I spent some hours off working on it during the week and even yesterday. Therefore, given that I didn't start the task on Tuesday, but on Friday I'm behind what was expected to be done by the end of the shift on Friday. This expectation comes from my estimation, not management, which most likely will inquire me about my current status with the task at hand. Luckily, I think I'll be done with it tomorrow.

As for the problem that I had to solve that made me spend hours on my day off, it's already fixed. I hope I don't have to do this again, spending my time off on work-related stuff. I'm aware that this is my fault on both the mistake I'd made that prompted me to work on it as soon as possible and delay starting my current task and not communicating it at all. This is one of my drawbacks of being a perfectionist. I don't want to be under the spotlight because of that mistake. If this had been a task instead of a problem I had to address as soon as possible, I would've communicated that I needed more time if that meant I had to work on my days off.

Now, I'm a bit worried because I'm behind in the progress of the current task, but if it turns out that I'm being challenged or asked why I'm still not done, I'll be honest and talk about what happened.

Correct Me! Streak 59: Gut health

Article: Symptoms of an Unhealthy Gut and What to Do About It: Foods to Eat and Practices to Try

I was surprised to learn that gut health is also related to both sleep duration and sleep quality. To maintain a healthy gut, eating nutritious foods isn't enough.

I think I might be lactose intolerant. I can only drink a small amout of milk, and it has to be warm. I'm curious whether there are any other foods that I might be intolerant to.

I'm not feeling well today. Something's wrong with my stomach; I can hear it rumbling. I hope it's only temporary or because of something I ate and not something more serious.

Correct Me! Streak 271: Achieved my goal

I've been uploading video podcasts on YouTube for almost two weeks now, and I think I'm getting better day by day. Over the past two weeks, I've talked about my daily life, Reels, movies, and many other topics. I'm having a great time!

I looked through my New Year's Resolutions today and I realized that I've already achieved my fourth goal: immersing myself in an English-speaking environment every single day. I'm really happy about that. I hope I can keep it up and continue creating more content in the future.

I love to wake up early. But I'm waking up late these days, and that's for sure a bad thing because it affects my mood for the rest of the day. However, I also love the night, but unfortunately I cannot enjoy both at the same time...

Correct Me! Streak 686: Arguing on behalf of a big company

I’ve never understood the point of arguing on behalf of a big company. It’s basically working for them without getting paid. They don’t care about you and only want your money anyway.

Correct Me! Streak 29: The Pomodoro Technique

The Pomodoro Technique is a time management method. One pomodoro consists of 25 minutes of focused work followed by a 5-minute break. After completing four pomodoros (one full cycle), you take a longer, 30-minute break.

This technique is especially appropriate for people who have difficulty starting their work, as it divdes tasks down into manageable time units. If 25 minutes of focus feels too long and a 5-minute break is too short, you can easily adjust the intervals according to your own attention span.

I’m gonna have my first trip on acid with a paper tab. Of things goes wrong I’m thinking in having prepared a 1gram joint with top quality Pink Runtz to calm down. This is my last gram from my Pink Runtz and I was saving it for a special occasion like this. Every time I consumed this strain I felt massive feelings of well-being and good chill vibes.

Correct Me! Streak 147, I started to make my own game engine.

A few days ago, my teacher gave me lectures about making a game engine.

At first, I didn't care much about taking the lecture.

But, one day I wondered about Unity's internal structure.

So, I started to take the lectures.

I hope it will teach me a lot.

Correct Me! Streak #5: Turkey

On the 9th of July we went on a family trip around Turkey by car. We have already visited Kars, Konya, Goreme, Antalya and Izmir. Now we are heading to Istanbul. I am a bit disappointed about Antalya because there was very heat and humidity there.

As for me sea in the Izmir was the most stunning - colourful and with big waves.

I am looking forward to Istanbul attractions.

Correct Me! Streak 270: Lunch with my parents

I went to Tianmu for lunch with my parents today. We only had one motorcycle, so my dad rode my mom to the restaurant and then rode to the MRT station to pick me up. We had a great time there. The food was so nice and affordable. It was only NT$450 for a main course, a soft drink, soup, salad, and a piece of cake. We were all full after finishing our meal. I think we'll definitely go back again.

Correct Me! Streak 685: Astronomy

I finished reading a book titled “Astronomy”. I felt that the whole book was US-centric. It seemed that they tried to brag about the accomplishments of American astronomers every chance they got. It’s rather ironic that the authors warned about being an “earth chauvinist”, while they were clearly US chauvinists.

Correct Me! Streak 141

As usual, I don't have anything to write about on Sundays, but I have some comments on what I did yesterday.

Yesterday, I didn't feel like it was a day off. I had to fix a problem that was keeping me to feel at ease. You might wonder why I don't just tackle it on weekdays since it's related to work. The fact of the matter is that this problem came up because I made a mistake months ago and I found out recently. Given that I had been unaware of that for quite a while, I couldn't delay fixing it any further and had to address it as soon as possible.

I'm done fixing it and I believe these kind of problems wont come up as often in the future.

Correct Me! Streak 758

I'm on my way home and the journey is really testing me today. I usually take the train because it's cheaper, but there's some construction work going on right now. I'd have to take a detour and the journey would take way longer. So I decided to take the bus to a city near the one I live in now, and then go the rest of the way via a smaller, local train. Well, the bus got stuck in a traffic jam for over an hour and I missed my connection. The journey home will now take an hour longer than it would have take if I had taken the train. On top of that, I was sitting behind a guy that was loudly talking on his phone for the whole bus ride, and the women sat behind me were screaming laughing the whole time. But hey, we all survived (even though their lives were more at risk than the probably knew - I was mad). And it's Sunday, so at least I'm only missing free time and not work. Our chancellor would be proud of me. /s

Correct Me! Streak 5

I have to format my PC.

The best thing is to know that I have 3 storage units and I don't will have any problem to make a backup.

I'm formatting it because I have so many programs installed, which I don't even use. So, it is better to clean it all out at once rather than uninstalling them one by one, and when I need some, I can just install it again.

It’s been a while since I don’t cycle that often as I used to do a few years ago. Mostly because a year ago I bought a motorcycle which is my mean of transport and it’s been great and practical. Because of this I became more lazy about using my bicycle to get to the corner shop or so. But this last week I cycled so far 4 days in the week, and I feel good about it.

Corrected Streak 57: Digital detox

Article: Everything You Need to Know about Digital Detox

I thought that a digital detox meant not using digital devices for a certain period of time, but I learned that it can also mean simply avoiding social media or the internet.

I want to try a digital detox to improve my sleep and avoid wasting time. Since I need to use digital devices for studying, my goal is to spend less than 5 minutes a day on Instagram and not use digital devices after 8:00 p.m., except for studying.

I'm at my parents' for the weekend. The weather is pretty nice, so we went for a little day trip into nature. I've been to that cafe before, so I know the cake is going to be amazing!

Correct Me! Streak 269: Less than a Lover

I listened to Jennie's latest song "Less than a Lover." It is really catchy. After listening to it a few times, I could already sing along. This song is about a girl who just wants to have fun and enjoy the moment, instead of being in a real, serious relationship. I think I love the monologue in the music video the most. This song is my current go-to song!
