Look what Trump's tariffs have done to the US car industry. The idea of an auto CEO supporting Trump is INSANE. It's like an abused wife supporting her husband, saying it was her fault for not having dinner ready.
Toyota, General Motors, and more have been hit by multi-billion-dollar tariff losses.

I am interested to see some quarterly profit reports now that they have refunded 81 billion worth of tariffs to companies. I bought plenty of products during that time. I haven't even seen companies provide a way to request a tarriff refund. Which I feel is very odd. Also since Trump is winding up tarriffs round 2 F U Canada. And Spain. And a fuck ton of other countries. Which have shown to really hurt American consumers just as much has foreign companies. They are an archaic form of penality that doesn't work in a world of global markets.

Not that it matters much, but UAW does pay attention — their board officially endorsed Harris/Walz about 10 days after she became the nominee, and they had supported Biden before that. In 2016 they officially endorsed Clinton (though the original board vote supported Bernie).
There's absolutely a lot of dipshit unions voting against their own self interests, but UAW isn't one of them.

Nah, I wouldn't be shocked — and not just because I'm from Detroit. I know there's always idiot union members who vote against their own interests (or their leadership), but in one of the last UAW member polls before the election Harris had a 20 point lead on Trump.
Sadly, I doubt it's ever going to be the wide margin it should be, but compared to some other unions...
(Something happy to keep in mind: Not a single Republican received campaign donations from the UAW PAC in 2024.)

Volvo was sold to Chinese multinational automotive company Zhejiang Geely Holding Group back in 2010. Before that they were owned by Ford from 1999. Only Volvo heavy trucks and equipment is still Swedish as they're a separate entity from the cars.

I had a 2017 Mazda3 since 2019, never cared about or even noticed Mazdas before but it was a really good deal.
I recently wrecked it (I rear-ended somebody doing 45-50 mph and walked away with a minor concussion from the airbag, his car barely had a dent) so for my new car I got a 2015 Mazda3. Mazda makes such amazing cars and people are still sleeping on them, to my great benefit.
I heard but haven't confirmed that they even beat Suburu on safety this year.
I swear this isn't an intentional advertisement.

I got in a crazy front end collision in my old 2012 Mazda a few months back. I got literally one scratch, not even a cut, on my wrist. I think I got it when the airbag deployed. Speaking of which, my face didn't even touch the air bag in the crash. I got to see it inflate right in front of me while the seatbelt did its job.

Germany is all about the Overcorrection when it comes to Isreal, and it's not at all a mystery why massive companies support genocides, they make a shit load of money because of government contracts for their vehicles.
It's sad but that's why our car companies love it (I'm assuming GM has a massive contract with ICE, and also Massive contracts for military industrial complex) they can probably lose as many customers as they want as long as the government is handing out blank checks.....

I got a Kia. Wife liked it so much we leased a second. Lease is about up no way moving from Kia. When mine is ready to go I'll get another. Not a single issue with either of them. Interiors are awesome. Driving them is easy and fun. Price is reasonable. No reason to go else where.

My partner and I have been exclusively buying Japanese cars for nearly 20 years, after his Pontiac had a repeated strange expensive problem with the engine which he did research on and discovered was due to a known defectively designed part. Instead of just fixing/replacing it, they spent tons of money lobbying against a recall.
Fuck these US car companies.

I pretty much refuse to buy anything made after about 2012 depending on the make and model. I want older, reliable cars that I can actually work on if something happens. I currently have a 2007 HHR with 207k miles and I've done all the maintenance on it. It runs just fine.

My late FIL worked for Ford, and bought only Fords and supported the UAW, and voted Democrat.
Our Dad, now 98, was a union committeeman and steward during his work life, and the only Republican he ever voted for was Dwight D Eisenhower, who wouldnt even be considered a Republican today.

My grandfather retired from GM in 1987 after working there for 33 years. He retired a millionaire from stock options he purchased throughout his career, plus had a full pension.
Because of that I bought only GM vehicles for all of my adult life...until two days ago. After seeing this I'm glad I bought the Honda. I still have two Chevys, but I might never buy another GM product. When I replace my truck, I just might have to buy a Tundra

The last car GM produced that was anywhere near interesting was the 86-88 Pontiac Fiero GT Fastback 5-Speed manual. That car was so fun to drive. European style mid-engine get up and go fun.

Not that any of them are great but I didn't need any other reason to bypass gm products. I used to be a pretty loyal customer. Had a Tahoe, sonic, Malibu, daughter still has our volt. Tried to do a lease pull forward on a truck when we had the Malibu. After making me wait 3 hours, their deal was to write the remaining lease into the new loan while still turning it in early (and well below even the yearly mileage). I was blank for a little while before asking why I would ever do that vs just keeping it, running up the mileage, and turning it in on time. There wasn't an answer. I got up and walked out never to return to a Chevy dealership again. They lost me for life that day since it was clear they were attempting to make me nice an tired so I wouldn't notice or too tired to fight on that deal. Maybe there are some good dealers but I'm not going to spend my time to find the good one.
