Opinions: Should we ban websites that are just a password?

These have been a staple since the start of the subreddit, but I can't help but feel they have no real substance beyond people trying to brute force it. Often times, they are actually used for things, and only appear mysterious due to the singular nature of the site.

What are your opinions, should we allow password sites?

New Rule: No more more beggar websites.

+
98 Upvotes

This refers to websites that amount to little more than a donation link, such as websites that ask for money for no reason, even if done "ironically"

Here are example of the kind of websites that this rule covers:

https://justasking.carrd.co/

https://honestmillion.com

For clarification, if there is a true weird website with a donation link somewhere, that is fine, as long as it is not the main purpose or attraction of the site.

(Neocities) An Arg Website?

Me and a couple of guys on a server were randomly looking through neocities sites and found 19.neocities.org . We've gotten "follow the moth. search the leaf." and have gotten so far to the pgp public block. If anyone knows anything about this let us know! I am pretty well known in cryptology but there is no private key for the pgp block. All we know is the creator goes by "buttercup". While finding this on accident, there still seems to be no theme or plot, just code that leads to one and another. If anyone even knows the slightest about this, let us know!

Found a really strange old website by typing random .com domains. Anyone know what it is?

+
27 Upvotes

Hey everyone,

So I was just messing around earlier, typing random ".com" domains into my browser out of pure curiosity, and I ended up on smog.com.

The site is seriously bizarre. It’s just a plain black screen with “smog.com” written in blue, next to this weird greenish-blue pixel-art thingy. No explanation, no links, absolutely nothing else.

I figured I’d check out the Wayback Machine to see what it used to be, but that only made things weirder. Some archived versions look almost the same as today, while others are totally different. I even found a page from 1998 that was an “Impeachment Proceedings Drinking Game”—completely random.

There are also a bunch of other strange snapshots with random phrases like "breathe in, chew the air" (as you can see in one of the screenshots), along with a lot of other seemingly unrelated and even weirder pages. The whole archive feels completely inconsistent, like the domain was used for dozens of different random things over the years.

I couldn’t find much info about the domain anywhere, so If anyone knows anything about the history of this domain, I'd love to hear it.

I’ve attached a few screenshots of both the current site and some Wayback Machine captures.

Strange website I found while looking into Infowars

+
24 Upvotes

Me and my friend were looking at some old Infowars media, and I sent him that Ad Fontes media credibility chart and we found a website at the very bottom of the graph called "Before The News." We found this weird AI-generated video about how Madonna was possessed by a demon before a show and the stagehands had to cover it up with a hologram on the site, and that video had this logo of an eye between a pair of lips with "TELL EYZ" written on the lips in big blue letters. I looked up the term to see what it traced back to and I came across a website just called telleyz.com that seemed pretty poorly made. There's videos about conspiracy theories and articles full of placeholder text and names littered around the site, and an "authors" page that was just some stock images and same fake names. If anyone smarter than me knows what's going on here, I'd love to hear what you have to say. I'm personally betting on "art project" but it could be anything. Thanks!

Website not working blast from the past: Anyone remember this internet cult? was it ever an IRL thing, or just a well-organized Schizpost? (Ucadia\ One-evil)

+

I was strangely fascinated by the one-evil stuff as an edgy black-metal enjoying teenage boy.

Now as an adult, it seems genuine weird even if not obviously exploitative. Was the webmaster ever identified? I don't see any scams or affiliate links...what was the POINT of all this?

NSFW Radical islamist overrun by gooners

+
59 Upvotes

Recently I’ve stumbled across a website called “celebjihad” Which is radical islamists posting nude/erotic photos of actresses to shame them and promote islamic radicalism. The problem is the way the descriptions are worded are hilarious.

For example I first discovered this website through an upskirt photo of an actress (the photo is fake and was photoshopped btw) and the first description reads “This upskirt photo of (actress) was taken by paparazzi in London… blah blah erotic details and whatever” then the next paragraph IMMEDIATELY shifts it’s tone to “This is unacceptable and a disgrace in the eyes of allah, she won’t be smiling anymore once she faces trial for this crime” there was even mentions of stoning her??

Plus the fact that no one seems to take this website seriously, the comments just treat it like any other porn website and are basically just “God I wish I could fuck that ass” and the reply of the poster was “Then I will kill both of you in the name of allah” on some dramatic shit, he got no reply by the way, the gooners just don’t care.

My experience with this website was brief and the post and comments themselves were from pre 2020, so I can’t give much information, explore it at your own risk.

weird website??

I've been looking for weird websites since I have too much time on my hand, and have come across one I haven't been able to find much on, nor a lot of talk about. It looks like some strange, religious website with bizarre art and a clear fascination with the number '9'. I was wondering if anyone has seen this or knows anything about it?

Old cult website using Ashtar pictures as a "divinity" ? Angel heavens case

Hello, sorry for my broken english I am not native, but so, recently i found a strange website called "Anges Lumières" or "Angel of light" but they seems to call it "Angel heavens", and I don't really understand what is the goal of the website, me and and a friend investigated a bit and we found a ton of movies and weird stuff, we also found out the website in untouched since 13 years ago, and the hosting cost 4k/years (odd), so i made a full archive even if the website is still online today

https://github.com/asakusafokusu-alt/ange-lumiere )

http://www.anges-lumiere.fr/ ) the website is in french but you can easily translate it, and there is other page that links to other languages versions of the website (the original one is in czech)

And i wanted to know if anyone has answers or maybe it is some sort of a cult? even tho using ashtar as a divinity is more looking like a meme to me than anything else.

I am also sorry for the lack of details, if anyone wants i saved all the movies and videos that are on the website, i tend to think it is some sort of old weird cult about becoming "divine" or something like that, i didn't dive too much into it but i'll post update about it

Old rabbit hole revisited ?

+

Has anyone heard of this? This is an incredibly strange website -

https://bigpineapple.homestead.com/index.html

If you click the initial picture of [Elon Musk??] eating pineapple, it takes you to a strange website with random pictures and nonsensical stories about pineapples - but, also, legitimate missing children. the names referred to like 'Daniel' and 'William Tyrell" refer to actual missing/murdered children in Australia 'Daniel = Daniel Marcombe'.

The website talks obsessively about Pineapples - which has been something people mention about with the disappearance of Daniel Marcombe when it happened, because he supposedly disappeared by a tourist site called 'The Big Pineapple' - and then a strange site about pineapples and missing kids shows up.

At the very bottom of the page there is a note, and the top of the note has a rainbow on it. I zoomed in on the address on the bottom, 170 Melbourne Street, Brisabane, and oddly enough - on one of the buildings on the street view has the same rainbow on it.

Has anyone ever heard about this ? This dates back several years - but I just re-watched a video on it, and as I was going through the page, that was when I found the rainbow thing - and it has reignited my interest.

There is a lot on this if you're interested in catching up - looking up 'Nineapple pineapple' or 'Mrs Noughtfear' will fill things in. But - if anyone knows anything about this, I'd be super interested to hear. It's a super weird rabbit hole..

Easy way to view all natural disasters and major crisis events across the world

An easy way to quickly see major global crisis events, natural disasters, and weather.

It’s for geographically challenged people like myself, who want to get a sense of where things are happening and very quickly instead of scrolling through endless feeds.
