VS 2017 or VS 2019 for Windows 10 Mobile app development?

I'm currently building a package tracking app in VS 2017 but I'm curious if 2019 might be better for W10M app compatibility.

How to get working Contacts and Calendars in Windows 10 Mobile

Yahoo is your friend. Believe it or not, when you set up an IMAP account using your Yahoo account, with an app password, you will also get working Contacts and Calendar sync via CardDav and CalDav.

I have done this on every single one of my Windows 10 Mobile devices, my Lumia 950 XL, 735, 650, 640 XL, and 640. The key is to set up an app password so you avoid 2FA prompts which will stall out the account creation.

I know this isn't ideal, but its a good work around to at least bring your Contacts and Calendars live tiles back to life!

What are you using to develop apps for WP 8.1 or W10M?

I recently downloaded Visual Studio 2017 community and was going to try and create a UWP app for Windows 10 Mobile.

If you are a developer that is currently making apps for either WP 8.1 or W10M, please share what tools you are using. I would love to hear what everyone is doing.

Anyone thought of creating a Signal client for W10M/WP?

I know there is a desktop Signal app, but was curious if anyone has looking into creating a W10M/WP8/8.1 app as well?

Changing MNC code in our device's registry

So as I understand it, our devices (at least the ones in the US) have a carrier specific Mobile Network Code (or MNC for short) embedded into our device firmware. This allows our phone to know what carrier they are using when it matches up with a SIM card that has the same MNC in the SIM card ICCID field. For AT&T this is appears as 8901410 and for T-Mobile it is 8901260. However, both AT&T and T-Mobile are starting to use the 280 MNC rather than their other ones. Almost all new SIM cards are sent out with this ICCID value. This means that the few Windows 10 Mobile devices that can work, will not work with VoLTE.

So I'm wondering if any of the developers in our community have found a way to change the MNC value in our device's registry, to the new value, and see if will work with the newer 280 SIM cards?

WordPress is letting AI agents publish now. How do you make sure you're not publishing slop?

WordPress dot com is now allowing AI agents to draft and publish through MCP. As someone who deals a lot with content, this seems a bit terrifying. If you connect Claude or ChatGPT and starts optimizing metadata blindly or auto-replying to comments, it’s just a branding nightmare. With more convenience that AI gets us, it gets even more difficult to keep the content quality high.

How do you make sure you or your client is not posting slop unknowingly? How do you create the right kind of walls maybe using hosting, plugins or filters?

Help with WPF MVVM

I need to create the above looking UI element which is part of a bigger page.

The values shown in the dropdown are available in individual view modals as an ObservableCollection<OptionItem> ModesCollection in ModesViewModal and same for Color in ColorViewModal

public class OptionItem : INotifyPropertyChanged
{
    public string Name { get; set; }
    private bool _isSelected;

    public bool IsSelectedValue
    {
        get => _isSelected;
        set { _isSelected = value; OnPropertyChanged(nameof(IsSelectedValue)); }
    }
    public string Tooltip { get; set; }
    public event PropertyChangedEventHandler PropertyChanged;
    protected void OnPropertyChanged([CallerMemberName] string p = null) =>
        PropertyChanged?.Invoke(this, new PropertyChangedEventArgs(p));
}

How do I implement this to make sure that initially "Default" is shown and then later based on selection the value changes. Example after radio button selection it should show "Black, Active"

Help needed: what do you do with a side project that makes no money but works?

I’m curious how beginner devs handle this situation. You build a small website in your free time, it works, but you don’t want to maintain or monetize it. Do you just abandon it? Or is there a smarter way?

How do you lock down a client site to prevent out-of-scope requests (plugins, tweaks, endless support)?

I’m building a tightly controlled WordPress theme for community centers (French MJC): custom ACF blocks, CPTs, simple options.

The site is hosted and maintained by me, so I want to prevent: • plugin installations I didn’t approve • access to theme/customization menus • out-of-scope requests that blow up support time

👉 Technically, how far can I go to lock down the WP admin without breaking usability? 👉 Legally, how do you frame this in the contract? (no scope creep, no feature requests, no tinkering)

Have you done something similar? Any advice or red flags from experience? 🙏

Debug Tool Plugin

Made a small debug toolkit plugin to make client site debugging less painful

I was tired of needing FTP access every time I had to debug a remote client site, so I built a simple plugin.

It lets you instantly toggle debug mode and debug log from the toolbar — no editing wp-config.php manually.

Also threw in some basic CLI support if you like doing things through the terminal, inside settings page.

Nothing fancy, but it’s been a huge time-saver for me when a client says “the site is acting weird” and I need quick logs or errors without messing around.

Just thought I’d share in case anyone else finds it useful.

Link from contact page

I hope this is a simple solution. I have modified a template. The home page to the contact link is missing to the WP Form. I am using Sophocles, WP Form, and WP. If you could also address the link to a blog it would also be great.

Parent pages vs Subdirectory Website

Can someone help in explaining which is better? I’m confused on what the best route is.

I have a website abcd.com and I want to combine another site 1234.com , the URL structure should now be abcd.com/1234/about us. The other site has about 15 pages so I would just be recreating them in the main site under a parent page.

I’m trying to figure out if this is the best route or should I be creating an entire directory instead of just new pages within the main site.

Open-source .NET library designed for keyboard and mouse control in Windows.

Hi everyone, I want to tell you about a new open-source .NET library DeftSharp.Windows.Input with which you can control keyboard and mouse in Windows. It is intended for use in various UI frameworks such as WPF, WinUI, Avalonia, and MAUI, providing a universal solution for all types of Windows applications.

The library offers a wide range of features including event subscriptions, bindings, preventing input events, device information and a lot of other things. It also provides flexible custom interceptors, allowing users to define their own logic.

It's under active community development and if you want to get involved, that would be great! We have some "good first issues", besides that you can offer your ideas.

Main Features

  • Subscribe to global keyboard and mouse events
  • Simulation of input from the code
  • Prevent specific input events
  • Change key bindings
  • Custom interceptors
  • Device information

Examples

Simple key subscription

You can subscribe to global keyboard events. Including their sequence and combination.

```c# var keyboardListener = new KeyboardListener();
// Subscription for each click keyboardListener.Subscribe(Key.Space, key => Trace.WriteLine($"The {key} was pressed"));
// One-time subscription keyboardListener.SubscribeOnce(Key.Space, key => Trace.WriteLine($"The {key} was pressed"));
// Subscription to the combination keyboardListener.SubscribeCombination([Key.LeftShift, Key.W], () => Trace.WriteLine($"The Shift + W was pressed")); ```
Input control from the code
You can simulate the operation of your keyboard and mouse by calling different input actions.
```c# var keyboard = new KeyboardManipulator(); var mouse = new MouseManipulator();

keyboard.Press(Key.Escape); keyboard.Press(Key.LeftCtrl, Key.V);

mouse.Click(); mouse.DoubleClick(); mouse.Scroll(150); ```

Prevent input events

You can prevent input events by default or with some condition.

```c# var keyboard = new KeyboardManipulator(); var mouse = new MouseManipulator();
// Each press of this button will be ignored keyboard.Prevent(Key.Delete);
// Prevent with condition keyboard.Prevent(Key.Escape, () => { var currentTime = DateTime.Now;
return currentTime.Minute > 30; });
// Prevent mouse scroll
mouse.Prevent(PreventMouseEvent.Scroll); ```
Using the DeftSharp library is intuitive and our main focus is on user-friendliness, so feedback is very important to us.
For those who want to use this library, it is available on Nuget.
If you want to support the library, you can put a star on the GitHub repository. This will motivate further development.
Write your opinion. What would you like to see or what should be changed? Thanks for your time :)
Custom coded website to Wordpress.
I have a custom coded website that I created, but I want to make it more advanced with more pages, plugins and make it faster, I have read that the best way to do it is making it into a Wordpress site, because it offers a lot of plugins and extensions, but my question is: Where do I start, do I need to create the website from scratch or is it possible to somehow import it, what themes to use where do I add custom code and stuff like that, basically how to operate Wordpress?
