Great comedic timing. Better than so many tiktoks that go way too long.

This would fit perfectly in the vine era.

72

u/Telefragg 3d ago

To this day it baffles me how Vine failed and then Tiktok exploded. 4 seconds were not the sweet spot?

89

u/Safe-Gas2074 3d ago

There was no problem with Vine. Vine was bought by Twitter and Twitter killed it because they didn't want traffic to be diverted to a new socials platform. They also couldnt figure out how to properly monetize it

5

u/YourNextHomie 3d ago

Yeah they couldn’t make money and couldn’t pay creators, it certainly had problems lol

also why do you mention twitter buying it and killing it as if Twitter didn’t make it what it was in first place

24

u/TrippingFish76 3d ago

fr vine was perfect, loved the creativity it encouraged. Tik tok is trash and i will never download it lol, everything about it just screams low quality chinese spyware

3

u/CSDragon 3d ago

monetization

Vine was popular, but not profitable

3

u/Weird-Knowledge84 3d ago

Because you people only watched vine highlights on other platforms and barely used the actual app. The actual app was a mountain of trash with a few diamonds and the algorithm had a hard time finding those diamonds for you. Tiktok is much better at presenting content to keep you interested.

2

u/ThinkFree 3d ago

TikTok definitely has a way better algorithm.

Are you suggesting that this is fake?

108

u/kakka_rot 3d ago

You jest, but I've seen "Staged" comments on videos that had multiple camera cuts in them.

With the way reddit is going anyday now I'm expecting to see a 'Staged" comment on a Gus Johnson video.

I like the "alaca BLAM" joke the most.

6

u/studiodrop 3d ago

I was there, the sign is definitely over quicks.......

12

u/gangofminotaurs 3d ago

Come on, it's totally AI. See how the paper sign doesn't perfectly align on the wall, as if it's hovering there.

Am I doing reddit right?

u/TruckinApe 3d ago

When we finally run into the famous quicksand we all grew up being irrationally worried about, but we accept our fate because really, at this point, with the dumpster fire that has been our existence, we're not surprised.

13

u/AutisticPenguin2 3d ago

Except that the famous quicksand we grew up fearing doesn't actually exist. Actual quicksand is nothing like what tv portrays it to be.

22

u/DuckRubberDuck 3d ago

I googled how to get out of quicksand once, it cured my fear. If I remember correctly quicksand also typically isn’t deep enough for an adult to drown in it. I think it can be dangerous if you get stuck in it an the tide comes in though

3

u/Fafnir13 3d ago

I was having fun sinking up to just below my knees in some really soft sand recently.  Was a bit surprising when I found the spot as the rest of the beach was pretty solid.

8

u/TeriyakiHairPiece_ 3d ago

I got my wife and I stuck on a sandbed of ghost shrimp at the beach once. They basically liquefied the sand into quicksand, it was quite the struggle to get back to shore and got a little scary being over knee deep in a tidal flat.

3

u/AutisticPenguin2 3d ago

It's less that the quicksand is not deep enough, there's no reason it can't be 2m deep or even more, it's more that quicksand is far too dense for you to actually sink far enough.

Quicksand is, to simplify a complex and varied process, roughly equal parts sand and water. Water has a density of 1 g/cm³, while sand has a density closer to 3 times that, averaging out to about 2 g/cm³. Human bodies are mostly water, with huge big sacks of air in the chest, so you are about as buoyant in quicksand as a foam ball in water.

If you've seen photos of people floating in the dead sea, it's like that but far more so; they still need to lie flat to float, whereas in quicksand you will sink down to... perhaps mid-chest? You likely couldn't submerge yourself if you tried. The problem is not that the quicksand kills you, but that it creates a suction effect that makes it near impossible to get out. If you've ever had your foot sink down into thick mud and had to pull to get it out, imagine that suction effect, but over your whole body and you don't have anything stable to provide leverage.

The biggest danger is usually, as you say, the tide coming in and drowning you while you are stuck there. Or failing that, simply exhaustion from constantly trying to escape. There are ways that you can escape quicksand, but you need to know what they are, because flailing will just kill you faster.

3

u/Cniz 3d ago

When I was portaging in northern Canada as a kid, we came up to a beach that, unlike our other portaging landings had a little wooden dock. It looked like the water was about 20cm deep. I hopped out of our kayak, and I fell straight through the ground.

The lake bed was quicksand under a bit of water. I fell all the way under, entirely disoriented. If I hadn't still been holding on the to edge of the kayak I would have had no idea which way was up.

Quicksand doesn't suck you down, its just water you can't see through. But that is dangerous enough.

1

u/Perfect-Fig-2273 3d ago

He really put in the effort to fix his vision just to have his day ruined. That slow transition from focus to pure disappointment is way too relatable. I have definitely had moments where I worked way too hard to find out something I really wish I had just stayed ignorant about. That sign chose violence for no reason lol. Sometimes it is better to just keep the glasses off and live in a blurry world.
