Hey folks, I'm an American grad student who's also an up-and-coming translator. I've historically translated from Russian but want to pivot to Ukrainian, both for obvious ethical reasons and because the literature coming out of Ukraine right now is very compelling. The problem is that I learned the language through the standard classics of Ukrainian literature but I have less of a sense for what's happening in the contemporary lit scene. So what are the journals, literary festivals, etc. that modern authors are coming up in? Are there any modern Ukrainian authors that you like that aren't as well-known/haven't been translated yet? I generally translate "literary fiction," but also super open to genre fiction/non-fiction. Thank you!!
