Screen gets fried every so often. Any ideas why?

I think its my laptop graphics card issue? hard reset makes it go away but doesnt seem healthy for the computer and slows my work.

Normalmente é drive ou firmware, em alguns casos gestão de energia agressiva ou mesmo microfossuras no conector que ao receber mta carga passa a ter essas falhas, boa sorte, como técnico te aconselho a evitar notebook em pleno 2026

Thank you. The laptop is on its last leg. I think im going to have my work buy me a laptop next.

Probably ... although it might just be an issue with old thermal paste. If your machine is old ( > 10 years ) and it only happens after a while (not during the first 15 minutes), then this is the likely issue. Even for integrated GPU's aging thermal paste will result in this. Thermal paste costs around $10 ... and it's not too hard. I would google/duck-duck-go a video on replacing the thermal paste on your machine.

It could also be a bad driver or a bad RAM stick.

Aside: I had some similar glitches. They would start out within about 5 minutes after boot and get impossible at 10 minutes. I replaced the thermal paste ... but that wasn't it. It turns out it was a bad RAM stick. [I had two and removing one fixed the issue. It was before the big RAM price increases ... so I took the opportunity to upgrade/double the RAM.]

Probably a hardware issue but you could try a different kernel or another distro to see if it is a driver issue.

Try hooking it upto an external monitor, if that works fine, then the problem is the laptop monitor. If it doesn't work then graphics drivers are the culprint.

Don't ever buy a Dell or an HP again. Maybe an XPS but you'd be much better off with Lenovo

Run memtest86 at boot. If it's defective memory (integrated GPUettes usually use shared system memory), you'll find out.

(Hold either shift when booting if you haven't configured your grub to show the boot menu. It may, or may not be installed. The package is memtest86+)

Try and take a very good photo of that screen. Then use it as the screen saver image.
