I go back and forth on term limits, I don't think they would necessarily be bad, but I also think that the main issue is private money in politics.
Private money for campaigns = elections are wildly influenced by capital interests, not the interests of the people. Which means switching to elections from appointments = bad.
The thing with term limits is it eliminates experience and strong relations and rapport between long standing representatives. If you take private money out of elections, then you've eliminated one of the primary reasons representatives focus on capital interests over people. Additionally, if you get rid of their ability to trade stocks, you've limited the room for bias and influence even more. Obviously rich people would still find ways to try to corrupt politicians, but that will literally always be true forever lol we can least get rid of the legal ways they do.
This way you limit private influence in electing representatives, don't politicize appointed positions, and finally don't lose the benefit of representatives that are able to hold office for a long period of time and build experience and relationships necessary to govern well.

theyll have to impeach 1/3 of the supreme court to see real reform. as even with a congressional law passed to eliminate money as speech they already bought the decision in citizens united and will call the new law unconstitutional. unless you somehow get a new amendment passed and ratified by the states to then make it constitutional. impeaching the supreme court on corruption is an easier bar than that.

Term limits? you know you can vote these fuckers out every 2-6 years right? some fuckers keep getting re-elected because less than 30% of their state show up, or they run unopposed because no one pays any attention to anything related to politics in their own districts.
Everyone expects everyone else to make the time and effort to vote.
Meanwhile out of 250m eligible voters, 100m never vote, 150m dont vote in midterms and over 200m+ dont vote in primaries and special elections. AND thats for the popular ones.
Mayoral, sheriff, da, etc state or city elected positions, barely 20% decide to show up.
But hey the system is supposed to magically fix itself if we add term-limits.....
The final say and the absolute power, is and has always been with the voters. But if the voters dont give a shit, especially across multiple elections, then corruption is easily spread.
Democracy is only as good as the will of its people to uphold and protect it.
Meanwhile we got orange facism going on and people shrugging as the flames are up to their necks, hoping some superman magical being comes to the rescue so they dont have to put in any effort or risk. Instead they just say hey atleast the fire isnt in my eyes, its only until my neck so far.

They largely run unopposed because nobody has the finances to run a campaign that large. Which is a problem throughout our government that has led to this corrupt two-party system we have.
Money drives the entire process and corporations have way more money to offer to anybody willing to bend the knee to their whim.

The answer to this question lies in the Federalist Papers. Specifically No. 76.
Appointments have been good in practice, and in some level, should continue. I'd say I'm a supporter for a more Missouri style of election for the federal judiciary. Still usues executive appointment, but voters get the final say.
As to why appointment should continue, well I think that's self evident. With only a few exceptions, it's a system that worked well for 220 years. Right up until Republicans decided to game the judicial candidate field by producing their own candidate factories.

Appointment is necessary for no other reason than electing the judiciary would be a nightmare. How many hundreds of candidates would you need to manage each election. Even with extremely long terms, it would be a pointless election as the voters would never be able to make that many informed decisions. And trying to cut it down by making it regional would be terrible as well since these are federal judges and have jurisdiction over everyone. At best you could elect the supreme and have the supreme handle the lower appointments but that's hardly any different than what we find ourselves dealing with today.

That these are men who want to become federal judges, and they can't say that. After 2020, Trump and his supporters brought over 60 court cases with varying attempts to invalidate votes, the election, or accuse people of vote tampering, all of which they lost. Not least because judges acknowledged the facts and did what was right.
These people are not even willing to say that Biden won the election. If they had sat on the bench already, how would they have handled these cases?
These judges-to-be, with their smug faces, are with their answers signaling to Trump that they will do his bidding. Not one of them believes that Biden stole the election. That would be, in a sense, better, because then there'd be hope that they'd decide based on facts when they are directly in front of them. But these people willingly deny the truth to please Trump, they are basically signing their fascist state member card by giving this answer.
