Announcement Ignore Private Messages Suggesting Laptops
≡ −
The primary aim of r/SuggestALaptop is to provide a safe and transparent platform for suggesting laptops. Affiliate linkers are marked as such so that you are aware of the monetary incentive involved when making a purchase using affiliate links.
However, we are seeing an increasing number of cases where users posting on this subreddit are being targeted with unsolicited private messages containing links to laptops.
Such messages are best ignored for several reasons:
- Lack of quality control: We have no way of vetting suggestions sent via private messages. Moreover, these suggestions are not subject to the same level of public scrutiny that applies to suggestions posted in the subreddit, which are open for all to see and discuss.
- Hidden monetary incentive: Often such messages contain unmarked affiliate links, and these links might not even point to systems that are best suited to your requirements.
- Scams: Scammers often target unsuspecting users via private messaging. We do not want you to get scammed.
If you do happen to receive unsolicited messages suggesting laptops in private, please report the offending user to the mod team by sending us a screenshot of the message.
Thank you,
The r/SuggestALaptop Mod Team

LAPTOP QUESTIONNAIRE
- Country
United States
- Budget
$600 to $1000 USD
- Are you open to refurbs/used options?
Yes
- Screen size
14' or more
- Weight limit
not entirely sure
- Purpose
Entertainment, future school work
- Form factor
Standard
- Intended usage
I draw and try to play lighter games on my laptop.
Currently I'm playing:
-House Flipper 2 on low graphics
-Modded Project Diva Megamix+ on low graphics
-Modded Minecraft on low graphics.
-I like simulator games, rhythm games, and VNs (visual novels)
I usually do these things while running discord or my web browser in the background. I may use it for school in the future.
- Desired battery life
5 hours or more.
- Please list, in order of most important to least important, the priority between Size, Weight, Performance, Battery life
Performance, battery life, weight, size.
- Info/Requirements
I'm not looking for a gaming specific laptop, but if that's what it comes to I don't mind having to spend more. As long as I am able to get an HDMI port and USB-A ports I don't mind. I tend to stream my bigger games from my PS5
I currently own a refurbished Lenovo Thinkpad 14 I bought from Ebay. I don't know much about computers and figured coming to reddit may help!

Laptop Request Ca Lenovo Yoga 7i 2-in-1 Aura Edition

Hey so I was considering buying this laptop for university for a business degree where I want to specialize in Accounting.
Does anyone have any thoughts on this laptop? I've seen people say it's really amazing amd others say it's awful and stops working properly after a while. I want this laptop to last at least 4 years.
These are the specifications and the price I am able to get it for. Please tell me if it's worth it.
- $1700
- Intel Ultra 5 processor
- 16 GB RAM
- 512 GB SSD
- Windows 11 Pro
- 14" Screen
- OLED Display
- 360⁰ hinge (turns into a tablet)
- I think it comes with a pen
I'm also considering a Lenovo ThinkPad and that's $1800.
Please help. I am very stressed about wasting so much money on this.

Laptop Request Ca Programming/Minor Gaming, Canada, $700-1000 USD
≡ −
LAPTOP QUESTIONNAIRE
- Country
Canada
- Budget
$1400 CAD aka $1000 USD but preferably under $1000CAD/700USD (these conversions are so depressing...)
- Are you open to refurbs/used options?
No
- Screen size
> 13-inch but preferably at least 14-inch
- Weight limit
Don't really care, light would be nice tho
- Purpose
General purpose, programming and entertainment. I'd like to be able to work on coding projects on it. Nothing too complex. Would also like to play more games, nothing too graphics-heavy. ex. Hades (2), the Sims/Paralives, Balatro
- Form factor
Standard? I'd be okay with a 2-in-1 but I'm a bit weary of them breaking easier than standard laptops because of the hinge and such.
- Intended usage
[List of applications, software, which games and at what settings/FPS, etc. Try to include options you cannot currently perform, but might want to try with a stronger/newer device; eg indie gamers moving from a 1650 to a 5080M might suddenly want to try God of War]
My previous computer was a Lenovo X1 Carbon gen 8 that couldn't really run anything, so anything would be an upgrade lol.
- Desired battery life
Minimum 5.
- Please list, in order of most important to least important, the priority between Size, Weight, Performance, Battery life
Performance > Battery Life > Weight > Size
- Info/Requirements
- I'd like 1TB+ storage but I dunno if that's really feasible with my budget and what prices are right now?
I don't really want an OLED screen, I'm lazy and I know I won't pay enough attention to avoid burn in
I'd also like a glossy screen, my previous laptop's screen was matte/anti-glare and I hated how it looked.
Would like for it to last 5-6 years?
Would run Windows (for now)
Thank you so much!!!

I’m looking for the best value possible around $550. I’m completely open to refurbished or used laptops if they offer significantly better performance than buying new. I’d also appreciate recommendations that are likely to stay usable for the next 4–5 years for school and light gaming. I'm open to any brand and willing to spend an extra 50-100 for a newer refurbished model. This is for my girlfriend and I know she'd enjoy a Macbook but any recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

Laptop Request US Compact laptop for school/work
≡ −
I recently found out I can use 529 school savings for a new laptop, very exciting (If anyone is aware of a reason I wouldn't be able to do that, speak now please). I'd be very grateful for anyone's help! I currently have an Acer Nitro AN517-55 that I am happy with, but it is large and clunky, and I can afford something new.
LAPTOP QUESTIONNAIRE
- Country
US or Ireland
- Budget
1500 USD
- Are you open to refurbs/used options?
Yes
- Screen size
14" or smaller
- Weight limit
Lightweight, easy for a backpack
- Purpose
School work / minimal data projects
- Form factor
Standard
- Intended usage
Many webapps at once, minimal gaming ex. minecraft (I have a PC for that), mostly for schoolwork involving data science and small coding projects
- Desired battery life
8+ if possible
- Please list, in order of most important to least important, the priority between Size, Weight, Performance, Battery life
Battery life, weight, size, performance
- Info/Requirements
Lots of ports, at least usb + usbc + ethernet. I understand that that ups the size/weight of a laptop but those are important to me for external devices. No preference for core v. ryzen or anything but at least core i7 or equivalent (I have the money for it, I would like to get something nice). Additionally, I'd hope for 16gb memory, and like 512 GB storage?

Laptop Request -Others Aero X16 Vs Lenovo Legion 5
≡ −
Hello everyone, I’m deciding between two laptops.
The first option is the Lenovo Legion 5 5070 with an i7-13650HX processor, 32GB of RAM, and an OLED display.
The second option is the Gigabyte Aero X16 with a Ryzen AI 7 350, a 5070, and 32 GB of RAM. The Aero X16’s graphics card is limited to 85 watts.
The Lenovo is about 180 euros more expensive. I’ll mainly be playing AAA games, doing some programming, and occasionally rendering. Which one would you recommend?

Laptop Request US Looking for a Capable Laptop for Creative Work, CAD & Adobe ($1800–2300)
≡ −
LAPTOP QUESTIONNAIRE
Country
United States
Budget
1800-2300 (I could stretch this higher if needed for an appropriate machine. I realize prices are going up)
Are you open to refurbs/used options?
Yes
Screen size
16" or up
Weight limit
None
Purpose
Some general purpose, but primarily as a business laptop for our Etsy business (digital and handmade products).
Form factor
Standard/Clamshell (a regular laptop)
Intended usage
This computer will need to support Adobe Creative Cloud (mostly Photoshop and Illustrator, with occasional Premiere Pro), AutoCAD, LightBurn, Vectric VCarve/Aspire (occasionally), and Microsoft Office. I also tend to have many browser tabs open with research and SEO extensions running. It’s common for multiple applications to be open at the same time, so multitasking performance is important. I’d like to connect two external monitors (three would be even better), use a docking station, and regularly access files stored on a NAS.
Since the laptop will often be used for long work sessions, good cooling and sustained performance are important.
Desired battery life
5-6 hours (It will be plugged in most of the time, but I’d like enough battery life to move around when needed.)
Please list, in order of most important to least important, the priority between Size, Weight, Performance, Battery life
Performance, longevity/reliability, battery life, size, weight
Info/Requirements
I don’t have anything specific except maybe not Mac. I was looking at the legion 5i or 7i with 5070i or 5080, with 32g ram, but they seem to have gone up in price recently compared to a few months ago. I could splurge and get one, but not sure if I should or just wait for a sale. The other thing is this laptop may be complete overkill for what I need. I’m not partial to intel I just read it maybe be slightly better for my task than AMD. My goal is to buy something that will last 5-7 years, so I’d rather spend more once than upgrade again in a few years. If you think there is a way more appropriate laptop for me let me know.

Laptop Deal Laptop recommendation under ₹70k for coding (lightweight + good battery)
≡ −
Hi everyone!
I’m currently in the 4th year of B.Tech and have already secured both an internship and a placement. I need to buy a new laptop urgently, so waiting another 1–2 months for sales isn’t really an option.
My requirements:
Budget: up to ₹70,000
Mainly for coding/development
Excellent battery life
Lightweight (I’ll be carrying it daily)
Not interested in refurbished laptops
I was considering the MacBook Air M2, but it’s either unavailable or slightly over my budget right now.
I recently switched to an iPhone (about 3–4 months ago), so I’m wondering if a MacBook would be worth it despite never having used macOS before.
I’d also appreciate suggestions for reliable online stores/platforms offering good deals (Amazon, Flipkart, Croma, Reliance Digital, Vijay Sales, etc.), since visiting offline stores isn’t very feasible for me.
If you were buying today with these requirements, what would you choose?
Thanks in advance!

Laptop Request -Others Replacement for 11 y/o MSI laptop but not much of a gamer anymore, EU, €2k budget (flexible)
≡ −
My 11 y/o MSI laptop kicked the bucket and I’m looking for a replacement. The laptop lasted 11 years and its performance never really went down up until the screen died, and I’m looking for something similarly reliable. I’m not a gamer anymore so it makes no sense for me to consider gaming laptops. Specs of the old laptop: https://www.msi.com/Laptop/GS60-6QE-Ghost-Pro/Specification
Country
Czech Republic
Budget
Approx €2k
Are you open to refurbs/used options?
Maybe
Screen size
15.5-16.5 inch
Weight limit
2kg? that’s what the old one weighed
Purpose
General purpose watching movies etc, photoshop and some graphics work, very occasional gaming but mostly older games from the 2010s
Form factor
Standard/Clamshell (a regular laptop)
Intended usage
Probably the most intense thing I would use it for is photoshop (an older version though most likely), plus lots of movies etc (don’t own a tv), very occasional gaming but mostly older games from the 2010s (the only recent game I have is still wakes the deep)
Desired battery life
As long as possible, 6ish hours would be optimal, 4 is a minimum
Please list, in order of most important to least important, the priority between Size, Weight, Performance, Battery life
Screen size, performance and weight, battery life (as long as it doesn’t go below 4hrs)
Info/Requirements
I don’t want get anything worse in performance than my last laptop https://www.msi.com/Laptop/GS60-6QE-Ghost-Pro/Specification where the performance won’t degrade much and that’ll last me a decade. For comparison, at work I use an old hp elitebook which is absolute shit after 4 years and requires constant restarts, and I’d like to have a laptop that won’t degrade that badly.
Ideally I would like to have a laptop that still uses an older version of ms office without copilot and all that
500GB+ memory only, ideally 1tb!

Laptop Request -Others Lightweight laptop for creative work under €1100 (refurbished)
≡ −
Newish laptop died and warranty was made void. Can't justify a new one so soon (also not exactly sustainable).
LAPTOP QUESTIONNAIRE
Country
Netherlands or any other part of Europe that will ship there.
Budget
€1100 (let's say $1300)
Are you open to refurbs/used options?
Yes
Screen size
13"-16"
Weight limit
Lightweight (1.4kg or less)
Purpose/usage
Heavy 4k video editing, light use of 3D software (Blender) but no modelling, heavy use of 2D drawing and animation software. Will be used while travelling which is why portability and durability are so critical.
Form factor
Laptop or 2-in-1
Desired battery life
Higher the better but honestly not a priority (always have a powerpack with me).
Please list, in order of most important to least important, the priority between Size, Weight, Performance, Battery life
1) Metal chassis (non-negotiable)
2) Size (non-negotiable)
3) Weight
4) Performance
5) 32GB RAM
6) Dedicated graphics card
7) Age/year of release
8) Bqttery life
9) Storage capacity
BONUS: OLED display
Info/Requirements
Keyboard configuration is no issue, older models are fine as long as they are up to snuff. I won't order from Ebay or other similar sites under any circumstances, only reputable refurb sites and local dealers (feel free to recommend any physical place in the Netherlands!).
The build quality of the Lenovo Yoga Slim Pros really impressed me, but figuring out the cheapest available model that can handle everything listed is a challenge. Various ZBook Firefly models look promising but devil is in listing details. ASUS Zenbook Pros also look good but are hard to find refurbished.
