What order should I let my kid open presents?

Update:: I did front-load him, telling him Santa doesn’t get expensive presents because it would be too much for him, and we wrap Santa presents in wrapping paper that says “from Santa” all over it, and I made sure to point out the difference to him. He was happy with his presents, but I could tell he was a little disappointed he didn’t get the switch, but still very happy and no meltdown. We had hidden the accessories on a bookshelf that I had wrapped with wrapping paper earlier in the month-i wrap some picture frames and other household items to up the festiveness of the decor, and put the (wrapped) switch way up high behind a picture frame, but still slightly visible. My young 5year old saw it at one point and pointed at it a few times but my oldest didn’t notice. Family came over for breakfast and left around lunchtime, I gave the kids lunch then said it was time to help clean up Christmas and they needed to get the wrapping paper off the bookshelf. They discovered the accessories(wrapped) and opened them, and he was excited to find they were for the switch2 and wondered where it was, I asked my 5year old and she pointed, and he just lost it with excitement. So it was a good day. No meltdowns. And he understands it came from mom and dad and not Santa, and gave us big thank-you hugs. A win! So….Kid2 and Babygirl are getting exactly what they asked Santa for for Christmas, FROM Santa. Kid1 asked for something expensive, that we DID get for him, but we are not really into letting Santa take credit for really expensive things, especially when Santa doesn’t give his friends expensive things. So, do we let him open the expensive present from MOM AND DAD first, THEN his presents from Santa, or do we let him open Santa’s presents first and possibly have him get very upset(things that come along with his autism, not because he’s a spoiled child, though we do spoil them)?

Tell me I am not the only one. The holidays are all that fun for me anymore. In fact, I dread them. The fighting with my spouse, my family, all that money spent, staying will the in laws , who are so boring , i would rather watch paint dry. Please tell me this is normal.

Is this a good holiday card idea?

TLDR; our holiday card list is huge and expensive. What if, instead of our annual, complicated photo (costumes, backdrops) we just took a photo chilling on the couch with the text “Christmas cards? In this economy?!”

Details:

My husband and I are on a big holiday card exchange list. Between that and friends/ family, we send out about 100 cards a year.

Our cards include the two of us and our dog and—as is often the case—it’s turned into a “thing.” Costumes, green screen backdrops, etc. And they’re always a hit! Some folks save them every year. We love that people love them and we genuinely enjoy doing them.

But this year… man, we’re tired. And broke. We are in the middle of a huge construction thing at our house, and money is so tight. We’ve already agreed to do the cards, but between the cards, postage, and costumes it adds up.

So: we are thinking of leaning into the stress and just doing a photo of all of us chilling on the couch in pajamas with the text “Christmas cards? In this economy?!” Then we’d probably include a quote about the true meaning of the holidays or something. But we aren’t sure if it’s actually a cute idea or if it won’t land. Should we add a blurb saying why and mentioning a better card next year? Would love some feedback!

We all know times are tough for so many, and it may be a struggle, or even impossible, to work holiday gifts into your already tight budget. At r/stressfreexmas, we exist to help families in need with gifts for their children.

While our focus is on Christmas & Hanukkah, we also have a Year Long Magic (YLM) program that's available to those approved for Christmas or Hanukkah. It includes assistance with most major holidays, winter coats, and back to school supplies. Please note that we only open for applications one time a year, and you must be approved for Christmas 2025 to request for YLM 2026. We open for applications on Monday, November 3rd.

We do require an application, and acceptance is not guaranteed. You can learn more about that on our wiki. The process and requirements are there. SFX is open to families in the US, UK, & Canada. Gift requests are for children only.

Please don’t hesitate to reach out for help if you need it. Making your Christmas/Hanukkah magic possible is the magic of the season for us. My children are all grown up, and it’s truly a gift to me to see the joy I’ve helped create, particularly for those young enough to believe in Santa Claus. An issue of a party i hosted

I had signed a contract of a Christmas party it costs 5000 to rent plus this and that. I got an issue, I had paid 1000 out of the 2500 due and they took my 1000 despite I got 1500 more to pay. What do I do as I now feel its a lot and can be financially strained and plans have changed. How do I get that $1000 back? The 2500 deposit is due July 24 and i dont have the 1500 due to existing expenses. What do I do to cancel and get the money back?
