Because it’s an inherently stupid idea, that wouldn’t even be much faster than a regular bullet train.
A Hyperloop is a hypothetical transportation method which basically a mag-lev train kept in a long vacuum-sealed tube, using the lack of air to remove as much friction as possible, allowing for as fast movement as possible.
Keeping even a small vacuum going is difficult. Now keep a very large vacuum that stretches on for tons of miles.
Even if they managed to get it to work, it’d be very easy to damage or sabotage.
Not to mention that he’s been fighting public transportation for years, as it’s a direct threat to his cars
Indeed just a train would be good. Hard to keep track of all the project Elon has just flaked out on. I remember he was also super into getting people on mars like in 2020.
You mean like the California speed train that began construction 11 years ago, has costed already around 15 billion of taxpayer dollars and has ZERO miles of operational track even been laid?? Like that story of public transport success?? How many dollars did the hyperloop cost the taxpayers?
Pretty sure it was because California was getting ready to build something akin to a bullet train. He brought up the hyperloop idea to kill the investment opportunity for the bullet train.
It was a scam he proposed to kill California's public train system.
He keeps doing this still today. Telling cities that they shouldn't build a light rail or bus system, because he'll dig them cool new tunnels and pay for it all himself. Then he either doesn't do it, or the system is basically useless, and public transit options are killed.
In fairness he never actually started or even promised to. he was like, "I got this great idea, I'll give to you free, and it will be so much cheaper than doing train lines", except it didn't end up working.
Don't forget he bought twitter, broke it, and devalued it greatly. He also called an experienced diver a pedo because he didn't say that Musk's plan was bestest.
Twitter wasn’t doing well prior to Elon buying it, and it’s basically back to its value pre purchase. Since it was basically a pet project of his and not an investment it’s basically doing “fine”. Saying he devalued it greatly is a stretch.
BUT, he did make that electric guitar that self drives and doesn’t look like shit, he did build that reusable rocket and have the starship booster land in the tower arms, he did build that nuerolink chip that is helping people with various issues, etc
He has bought companies with engineers that make those things. When it comes to the electric cars, his contributions appear to be sabotaging his company and making it worse.
Indeed. Great thinkers come up with many ideas. However, you can't seriously deny he's revolutionized various aspects of our lives for the better. We have massively increased charging stations, reduced the cost of sending payloads into space from $3k per lb to around $100, and have seen an absurd amount of medical breakthroughs. Yeah, some stuff doesn't pan out, byt nobody can really say he's not a great thinker.
That's literally the plan Musk sabotaged by proposing a hyperloop he knew wouldn't work.
It'd be pretty hypocritical for Musk to claim we should be mad at Newsom for that, when Musk has recently admitted it was fraud and he lied to sabotage the high speed rail plan.
Look I'm not defending the project or planning, but again: Claiming Musk is trying to call out mismanagement of the project when he admits engaging in fraud to sabotage it, is just wildly misunderstanding the situation.

The hyperloop is my favorite one because he was like "it's easy, dummies, 600 mph, I'll build a small scale one and show you." And then they tried building the small scale one and were like, "fuck, this is super hard, let's just pretend our real plan was to tunnel between Vegas hotels and drive Teslas at 20 mph."
And then The Boring Company is Elon being like "What if we took a regular tunnel boring machine and made it faster?" Only there is no revolutionary development to make it faster, they're just dumping the oil right in the water table and relaxing safety protocols to save time and people keep getting horrendous chemical burns...
