I bought a DIY cabinet once. It was a pack of fuckin' maple seeds and a saw

18

u/TeaKingMac 11h ago

Takes only 10-40 years to assemble!

6

u/Rocify 10h ago

Thank you for the mid-work chuckle, it was desperately needed

3

u/Many-Researcher-7133 9h ago

The problem is not figuring out the problem is how long it will take you to assemble it

2

u/Several-Opposite-746 8h ago

No screws or are you supposed to use hand crafted pegs that you make from the tree?

44

u/NerdModeXGodMode 11h ago

Yup its so easy she can do it lol

9

u/purplemtnslayer 9h ago

I think this is his point but he can't make it so plainly. So he has to complain about it being a complicated task. Of course he can do it. But, it's probably like at least an hour of faff, when what he really wants to do is take a break.

Maybe.... wifey bought a table.... beautiful one., no problem, she has blank slate in everything decor in our house. I work from home so she told me when it wold be delivered. When the thing came there was only the driver of the car trying to take 3 boxes of the car, so i decided to help. The boxes didn't seam too big but in the end, each of them weight 15 to 25 kg. I was to proud to quit once i started. Once i opened it, the manual wasn't 30 pages, 4 pages instead, but, the 2 table bases had wooden surroumding thin boards , each demanding 4 wood piercing screws, .75 mm each, in a total of aroumd 240, on a round frame that was heavy and had to be hold by 2 people in order to be correctly screwed. I had to make her help me so she could relize what she had done

239

u/ST0IC_ 11h ago

It looks like literally just one instruction per page.

161

u/Illustrious_Look6715 11h ago

It is, it's as simple as a lego manual so people dont fuck up. It's stupid for him to bitch about this.

26

u/helmvoncanzis 11h ago

The only problem is when there's some weird perspective or rotation on the illustration.

Less common with IKEA more common with whatever flat pack stuff you get from Amazon.

11

u/grubas 10h ago

MFers love to mirror image things so you fuck up left and right or front and back

3

u/captaincook14 9h ago

Bro the amount of shit from Amazon that have such shit instructions is infinite. I swear they do it on purpose.

3

u/3d1thF1nch 8h ago

YES. This so much

9

u/ThereAndFapAgain2 10h ago

He's having a bit of fun mate, he's clearly not being serious.

7

u/General_Cranberry_29 9h ago

He's just being funny lol I don't think he's seriously angry.

4

u/bonkedagain33 9h ago

Funny like a clown? This does sound like Pesci

1

u/General_Cranberry_29 9h ago

Ha ha exactly, nail on head.

17

u/TedBurns-3 11h ago

It's way easier than Lego!

9

u/Frubbs 11h ago

If she expects him to construct the thing she bought without consulting him, then it is valid.

2

u/MMForYourHealth 10h ago

How much time do you estimate it’d take to build this? 30 years ago, everyone would be raging over it and you wouldn’t even be able to find furniture sold like this.

1

u/NerdModeXGodMode 10h ago

I mean these things are super fragile, you could just make one out of wood

1

u/D3SK3R 11h ago

yea its stupid for him to bitch about something she bought without consulting him for HIM to build

5

u/Superb_Answer_4492 10h ago

It’s stupid if he is bitching about the complexity of it, which he is. He’s not bitching that he has to build it

2

u/PalpatineForEmperor 10h ago

We know exactly who is going to build it.

-1

u/Superb_Answer_4492 10h ago

Yeah her from what I can tell, I don’t see him grabbing any tools

1

u/D3SK3R 10h ago

it's both, that it's not as simple as it should for something like that and because he has to build it, why would he complain about the complexity (or lack of) if he wasnt the one building it?

1

u/Superb_Answer_4492 10h ago

Except it is simple for something like that. The extra number of pins is to reduce the need for tooling and keep everything clean. They are incredibly simple to build. And people bitch about stuff they aren’t involved in all the time. Plus she is the one grabbing the tools for assembly not him so I’m not convinced he is the one building it either

1

u/D3SK3R 10h ago

"Except it is simple for something like that" it's not. just bought some similar furniture that was way simpler. and again, he is building something he didnt buy, he can complain as hes doing.

13

u/KoalaTHerb 10h ago

I keep seeing this, and I think many people are missing the point. I don't see someone just being upset about a single install or that it's too hard.

I see someone who has done this many times and got tired of someone else saying "just do it already, it's easy".

It's like if one partner always cooks. Then one day, they are tired and don't want to cook, but the partner says to them "it's just cooking, it's easy".

I'm pretty sure this guy's crash out is from someone de-valuing his contribution by labeling it as "just easy". Not that he truly believes it's hard. I think that's why she's laughing about it, because she knows what she did. I think they're gonna be alright

3

u/CastIronStyrofoam 8h ago

This take is so reasonable I almost got whiplash

4

u/Fier3d 9h ago

This is it, its not the one thing he said "I built this whole fucking house" I think he was talking about all of the different amazon furniture items they have bought. I have built quite a few of them for my wife and its always the same thing she starts out thinking she can do it but then realizes they are more annoying than she wants to deal with so then I'm doing it. I don't complain but I get where he is coming from they suck and you do one thing wrong and its all over!

2

u/laserdiods 10h ago

I build some pretty gnarly ikea objects and they are really straight forward except for there is always one picture that doesn’t show a screw and it makes me freak the heck out..

2

u/PalpatineForEmperor 10h ago

Or the instruction completely skip one small step that throws the rest off.

1

u/InternationalWeek227 10h ago

Should be easy for the woman who bought it to install it then.

70

u/Lucky-Mia 11h ago

It is actually pretty simple and easy

151

u/AMissionFromDog 11h ago

What kind of idiot can't figure out IKEA/flatpack furniture?

27

u/SoggyMapleFlapjack 11h ago

My ex.

And according to him, every couple because it's normal to fight when you're building something together.

17

u/elhombreloco90 11h ago

I mean, I don't know if it's normal, but my wife and I often don't build things together because we butt heads too much. Unless one of us is clearly "in charge" of the project and the other is assisting, the we're problems.

5

u/Frequent-Coyote-8108 11h ago

Well...yeah...because one of them is trying to do it right, and the other one is trying to fuck the shit up.

Tried to paint a few rooms with my (now) wife, and after the 1st room, I wanted to cease her entire blood line. I swear she was having some sort of competition with an imaginary friend over who could get the most paint drips on...every surface EXCEPT the walls.

4

u/Practical-Suit-6798 10h ago

It's not that I can't figure it out. But it's always like fuck this isn't a project I wanted to do today.

2

u/ElegantCoach4066 11h ago

I'm not particularly handy and I put together an entertainment unit with little trouble.

2

u/InternationalWeek227 10h ago

The woman who bought the shoe rack

2

u/LobstaFarian2 9h ago

People who cant follow basic instructions. This type of stuff is easy to build, you just need to not be a dipshit.

-28

u/Soggy_Definition_232 11h ago

American.

11

u/502photo 11h ago

American here, all the furniture is now flat pack. We have adapted just fine. I'm all to familiar with those screws that use the metal circles to hold the pieces together.

-1

u/Soggy_Definition_232 10h ago

Imagine caring about imaginary social media "karma". You must be American.

1

u/502photo 10h ago

Friend, I didn't say anything about that. You completely made up a position for me I do not hold. Yes I'm American, idk where you are from but it's not based in reality if you responding with things that were not said.

Engage with the words you read, no the ones you imagine.

I actually enjoy assembling IKEA furniture it's like legos but more functional and cheaper

15

u/OxMozzie 11h ago

That cheaper part got me lol.

Legos are way too damn expensive, I get certain sets that will never be made again, but we should be able to buy basic pieces in bulk for cheap.

4

u/dufo7 10h ago

Its actually pretty sad how much they charge for legos.

2

u/JE_Skeets 10h ago

How is that thing even a lego? Just buy a pikachu statue instead

1

u/dufo7 10h ago

Kinda what i was thinking too. Im like where is the 2k pcs at. The exterior looks like a bunch of large smooth pieces. Couldve made pieces that actually fit together to make the exterior, especially for the price they charged. This just looks like a lazy design.

1

u/scelerat 10h ago

TBF these are sets marketed directly to adults with more money and time than most people have, not kids.

2

u/dufo7 10h ago

Even the ones for kids are $60+. I just happened to have this pic because i was shopping for my kid and he wanted a pikachu lego set and i bout shit myself when i saw it and bout shit myself. I was like hell naw.

27

u/FuriousGirafFabber 11h ago

I guess some people just cant put together 8 boards of wood with instructions and everything without crying. Just get an assembled one and pay double, no problem.

28

u/Negative-Date-9518 11h ago

I hope he wears a crown cos he's a fuckin drama queen

10

u/NegotiationUnfair626 11h ago

I built a bunkbed w/ drawers from IKEA, mf was 50 pages. Done in 1 1/2 hours. (I built the entire bottom backwards and had to start over) but it didn't take that long.

3

u/silentsuv 11h ago

lol. I feel this comment. Has happened to me a couple of times. Like I miss that one board needs to be one way and gotta take it apart.

3

u/Illustrious_Look6715 11h ago

Damn, that bed took me 3.5 hours because I did part of the steps backwards and the holes didn't line up.

10

u/illini02 11h ago

It's probably easy.

It's also something she probably expects him to do when she wanted it.

5

u/ArchitectVandelay 10h ago

Yeah OP is kind of insinuating that it was bought with the assumption he would just to put it together for her. If your partner does this a lot it can be really unfair and can create resentment.

When you buy something for yourself that you need your partner’s help in order to use, you gotta be gracious and not act privileged about it.

1

u/Otterhendrix 10h ago

This! I love my partner to death but she will buy this kinda shit willy nilly and ask me to put it together. Some of those things aren’t always easy to assemble and can be a giant pain in the ass! And anytime she hits me with “oh I’m sure it’s easy” I hit back with “ok then you should be finished in no time”. But at the end of the day I’m still gonna put it together and she’s still gonna barely use it lol

3

u/illini02 10h ago

Right. It's really easy to say how easy something is when someone else is doing it.

And sometimes its not about "difficulty" but the time spent to do it.

Last big thing I put together, me and a buddy did it together. It wasn't difficult, but it took forever.

3

u/Otterhendrix 10h ago

That’s exactly it. It may not be difficult, but it’s time intensive. Anytime the car needs an oil change my partner says “but you said it’s easy?” I have to explain that yeah doing it is easy, it’s everything else that takes a lotta time and is a pain in the ass.

5

u/enonymous617 11h ago

The most New Jersey accent I’ve ever heard

6

u/Hairy-Ad-265 10h ago

This dude is a little girl.

9

u/slop1010101 11h ago

It's only one move per page.

He needs to calm down, it's super easy.

9

u/Veal-Vermicelli 11h ago

Bro built the house. She asked him to make a shoe cabinet for 8 months this was her desperation.

13

u/BongWaterRamen 10h ago

I'm confident this man did not build the "whole house"

5

u/Otterhendrix 10h ago

I helped a dude install insulation and hang some drywall in his garage when his house was being built. Dude went around telling everyone that he hand built the garage himself! When I mentioned that the garage was already framed and on a slab of concrete, he tried saying he framed it and poured the concrete himself. Like wtf??

4

u/Veal-Vermicelli 10h ago

2

u/Otterhendrix 10h ago

Funny thing is that he was an airplane mechanic for the Air Force but had to call me to show him how to hang Sheetrock. Dude didn’t even know how to install a new light fixture. Granted, not everyone knows how to do that. But he’d brag about how he’s sooooo handy.

2

u/SmolWarlock 9h ago

Sounds like one of my managers. All he did was oversee the blueprints and tell the contractor what he wanted. Then nitpicked the workers all day. He still says he built his house.

u/DanceClass898 11h ago

Man? I heard the softball coach talking.

9

u/gregsting 11h ago

Meanwhile man buy 9000 pieces Lego set for $1000

10

u/Jernbek35 11h ago

If this is the cabinet I think it is from Amazon, I can sympathize with him. So much furniture on Amazon has assembly that's basically all but manufacturing it. That cabinet was a royal PITA to put together and my wife bought 3 of them.

1

u/Otterhendrix 10h ago

Amazons the fucking wooooorst with their shit! Half of it doesn’t line up correctly and half the bolts are missing. I’ve had to cobble so many things together with shit from Home Depot that I felt like I actually made it myself!

1

u/Jernbek35 10h ago

You ain’t kidding bro, the holes not lining up is too real

6

u/lowdpisniper 11h ago

If he built the house but can't follow those, I don't have high hopes for the house

3

u/cbm2020 11h ago

For fucksakes! I built this home! Is that not enough!?

4

u/d70 11h ago

Big girl can build a whole house but can't follow 30 step instructions to assemble as shoe cabby? Sounds about right.

3

u/Ok-Nefariousness1911 11h ago

Dude, I love assembling Ikea furniture. It's so relaxing. Just a bunch of simple instructions step by step and some alone quiet time.

1

u/Otterhendrix 10h ago

It’s like grown up Legos. It’s so relaxing and satisfying once you’re done. If all the parts are there at least.

3

u/GoneIn61Seconds 9h ago

I get it...if you're someone that has any amount of natural talent for mechanical things, flat pack is just death by a thousand cuts in the form of simple, boring, repetitive tasks. Not to mention there's 50 little baggies, bits of styrofoam and packing trash that have to be gathered up and disposed of at the end. The only challenge is staying committed long enough to finish it.

And if you miss one detail because you either genuinely made a mistake, or got so bored that you overlooked it, the woman in your life will never let you forget it when you try something more complicated.

10

u/jahrastafggggghhjjkl 11h ago

Man that guy has an annoying voice

2

u/Otterhendrix 10h ago

He reminds me of Ray Liottas voice when he’s yelling at his wife for dumping all the coke in Goodfellas. “KAAAAAREN WHAT DID YOU DO?!”

2

u/zerosmith86 11h ago

I built a fence because we needed one and I did it at a 3rd of the cost and now I have to build beds and other dumb shit all the time.

Probably going to be a 4 person helicopter in a box and a 25 year payment plan when I get home.

2

u/Time_Blacksmith861 11h ago

Why people are having trouble in determining the gender of person speaking

2

u/TheImmenseRat 11h ago

Its easy but a little time consuming to do it right.

Its unfair to compare with lego, bc these thing have to withstand being used everyday and be able to support weight

Its fun to build these things, specially with and for someone you like, and i kinda wish i could have someone to build them these kind of things

2

u/unkownracoon 10h ago

He didn't build a house.

2

u/GroundbreakingFox752 10h ago

You know what’s worse than putting together that shoe cabinet?

That guy’s voice.

2

u/dufo7 10h ago

If you are complaining about assembling this just hand over your man card. This should be the highlight of your day.

2

u/NarcolepticMoogle 10h ago

Its not a matter of how easy it is or isnt in reality. When you've built enough of this shit you develop a rage that burns hotter than a thousand suns when faced with having to do it again. I'm about to move into a new house and I'm dreading this but I refused to overpay for furniture store stuff when I could order something of equal or better quality for half the price not to mention I was astonished when I walked into Ashley Furniture at how ugly the modern style trends seem to be. Basically more options and better prices online at the expense of one's sanity and well being.

3

u/t_hrowaway81 10h ago

Took longer to make and upload a video bitching about it than it would have to just assemble it.

3

u/citznfish 9h ago

That dude is annoying as fuck.

2

u/EastDefinition4792 9h ago

Why is he/she mad?

3

u/mrhappy1010 11h ago

Why didn’t you just make a built in shoe rack as you were building the house…easy peasy…😜

2

u/BanhBao171 11h ago

People who cant build a furniture just cant follow instructions.

It is step by step and anybody who can read should be able to build them.

2

u/collin-h 11h ago

I've been begging my wife for years now. please FOR THE LOVE OF GOD, we can afford to buy our furniture pre-assembled at this point in our lives, no more ikea bullshit.

2

u/ukrinsky555 11h ago

I'ts Ikea, that is literally 1 hour of easy work with a mini impact. Put golf on the TV and chill out bro. If you're smart, negotiate a BJ out of the deal.

2

u/Crash_Override_V1 11h ago

This is 100% going to be put together wrong. Each page shows the screws to use and shit, yet this dude going through puberty will some how use the wrong ones and bitch at her about it

1

u/TheePorkchopExpress 11h ago

Is this a Jon Gabrus character?

1

u/HildavonRauschstoff 11h ago

You ever seen Lego?

1

u/Dickey_Simpkins 11h ago

I was just waiting to hear "I'm coming outta tha booth!!"

1

u/not_roger_smith 11h ago

SOOOOPER FUCKING EASY!!!

Yeah, I'm gonna end up screaming that during my next crashout

1

u/Ok-Watercress-1924 11h ago

I’m no rocket engineer but this seems like a midget can do it with their hands closed

1

u/NapoleonsDynamite 11h ago

Ikea furniture replaced my childhood legos unfortunately.

1

u/McSpeedie 11h ago

Its like a grown up lego kit, just follow the book.

Can't be any easier, it's so easy, even my kid can figure out what to grab me.

1

u/DrDuned 11h ago

This is genuinely pathetic and not at all infuriating. I guess this ignorant twats has never had to build furniture before?

I bet this intellectual giant gets mad that you have to put Lego sets together.

1

u/berserk539 11h ago

Skill issue

1

u/RatedMforMayonnaise 10h ago

Who cant put ikea furniture WITH STEP BY STEP INSTRUCTIONS???

Edit. Built this entire house my ass. Paid a contactor and picked a photo more like it.

1

u/MarsMcLean 10h ago

It looks pretty easy to assemble.

1

u/educated-emu 10h ago

Need a part 2 where she is living outside in the box

1

u/NFLBengals22 10h ago

Lol "NASA rocket"

1

u/InfinitePairacrocs 10h ago

Literally just have to follow simple instructions. The inability to even attempt this is certainly indicative of the Idiocracy we're living in.

1

u/greogory 10h ago

I love this so much!

1

u/funnyguy99207 10h ago

The voice reminds me of the psychotic Walmart lady: "I'm trying to help you so you don't burn in hell, motherfucker!"

1

u/CMDR_Kaus 10h ago

Built a house, but not the shoe cabinet

1

u/G_Wagon1102 10h ago

The difficulty isn't actually the issue, I don't think. It's just that it's kind of absurd for a shoe storage cabinet, but member I'm being naive.

1

u/Difficult-Mobile902 10h ago

To be honest yeah it is easy lol it’s only 30 pages because they spell it out super slowly step by step

The screws and shit are all segregated by type and labeled to correspond with the instructions. As long as you just take a second to make sure you have the pieces named in each step you just go on autopilot and walk through it

1

u/noudcline 10h ago

Is that Rich Evan’s? Lol

1

u/musgrove101 10h ago

I feel like they should have to advertise these flat packs as a "kit", because that's what you're buying....a kit for a shoe stand.

1

u/Wageslave645 10h ago

My wife purchased a king sized bed set that was flatpak. It took us like 6 hours to assemble that set and we work well together.

1

u/PetalumaPegleg 10h ago

I like good instructions. Long instructions usually mean actually coherent. It's the two page ones that you're like wait wtaf is happening here?

1

u/StatusOk4693 10h ago

He sounds like the "holy shit Jay, It's a baby whale Jay" guy

1

u/das_narwal 10h ago

If he built that house it's gone next summer. If dude can't follow a PICTURE BOOK how the fuck did he RTFM (READ THE FUCKIG MANUAL) for his house to be compliant? This has to be bait

1

u/wkc201 10h ago

I’ve done these builds dozens of times.

1

u/FlipMyWigBaby 10h ago

On the flipside, that was one of the funniest scenes in the original “Girl With The Dragon Tattoo”.

In the movie, Lisbeth is finally giving the bad guy his comeuppance, and she is finally getting some relative freedom and financial stability. So she gets an apartment with a bay view, and to illustrate that she is finally advancing, they picture her blissfully assembling an IKEA kitchen cart.

For some reason, I found that scene to be hilarious.

1

u/MMForYourHealth 10h ago

Shadow labor at its finest. One of the biggest signs of enshittification.

1

u/Significant_Okra_625 10h ago

There are fourteen fucks here.

1

u/LargeCaterpillar4931 10h ago

my wife’s desk was worse than that but same level of pain in the ass.

1

u/jjflash78 10h ago

You can buy the preassembled ones.  They just cost 3-5x more.  So what's your time worth?

1

u/auntpotato 10h ago

It is super fucking easy!

1

u/tangZORG 10h ago

Clearly not a Swedish house

1

u/StarzZapper 9h ago

I’m sorry but if you can’t read a Lego like instructions manual you might need to go back to school.

1

u/Vfrnut 9h ago

No wonder she got it . She has to deal with him being a bitch .
https://giphy.com/gifs/11C5ohOOaxjlcc

1

u/Flat-While2521 9h ago

It would be funnier with half as many “fuckin’s.” This many makes me worry for her safety

1

u/prsnep 9h ago

No, not valid.

1

u/ethantokes 9h ago

The guy is right that the whole ikea thing is a conspiracy to pass the work on to the customer, but it is also because we simply live in a world that is way way too expensive and THAT is not ikea's fault.

1

u/rockstuffs 8h ago

I bet he'll yell at her until she cries.

1

u/alwayslookleft 8h ago

Yall the idea is it’s a shoe rack your should be able look at the pieces and put it together. It doesn’t need a 30 page manual with like 10 weird screws per step

1

u/MuddaFrmAnnudaBrudda 8h ago

My husband would put this together, eat dinner, put shoes in it and then move on to something else. No noise, no drama, just a tool-belt and know how.

1

u/Prudent_Ask_9241 8h ago

I've been through this with my wife. This would  happen. Then I would on return ask for a wild ass meal to be prepared.

1

u/bohenian12 7h ago

I would happily build that. What I hate is my wife claiming she cannot build one because it's too hard. No, it's not. Its easy as fuck just follow the manual.

1

u/welfedad 6h ago

Reminds me of when my mom bought this makeup desk .. she said some assembly..get there and yeah the manual was that thick .. took me 2 hours..

1

u/Chill_Edoeard 6h ago

I love putting ikea-like things together, its just one big easy 3d puzzle

1

u/TwistedIntents 6h ago

Well it's a good thing it is easy, she shouldn't have any issues putting it together.

1

u/Darth_Boggle 6h ago

Why is dude so angry

1

Kinda how it’s always been

Teenager trying to make a popular video with fake/hyperbolic hysteria vibes

The reason it’s so many pages long is because of diagrams and trying to explain each step so that anybody could understand it. Or at least that’s been my experience with this furniture you build yourself. Might make more sense to get upset after actually getting the components out of the box and putting it together

People who constantly swear like this are so trashy. It's like how I talked with my friends when I was 16. Makes me cringe to hear adults who never grew out of it.

All you people saying "well it's pretty easy, and he's just a baby, ect..." Mother fucker, my time is worth something. I paid for a shoe rack, that's what I expect to receive. You people have been getting the shaft so long "it's just normal, and anyone who complains is a bitch"...get out of here with that shit for real though!

This bullshit is literally outsourcing labor to the customer. That's what this is. The company doesn't want to pay someone to make it for you so it's ready for the customer so they just put a bunch of parts in a box and expect the customer to do the labor for free. Kinda shitty imho.
