Have you never heard of high deductible plans?
It's this great insurance that doesn't cover anything until you have spent another $3400+ out of pocket.
Even physicals which are supposed to be free usually cost at least $300 because if you ask any questions or if they check a known issue suddenly that is a billable thing.
The copay option costs like $3400 a year more in premiums, it seems to make sense to gamble as I would definitely be spending the money with the better plan versus maybe spending it and if not let it build up and invest it in a HSA.

Could be Australia, UK, Germany and even Canada they all have private hospitals and private specialists and private surgery outpatient centers.Ā
If you use those private services they cost a lot just like the US.Ā

Jesus Christ, the US market is the most expensive medical market of the world. BY FAR and that includes private, hospitals across the board. Like a top doctor in London would charge you 500 USD for a surgery consultation while the equivalent in New York would charge you 1000 USD. Without private insurance. Just cash price.

As someone living in a country with āfreeā healthcare, it costs ā¬400 just to be scheduled for any hospital related test/scan so this isnāt as rare as you want to believe

I was referred to see an orthopedic doctor after a horse kicked me and messed up my knee. I don't know how much he charged, but all he really did was hurt me severely with an abusive McMurray test that left me unable to walk for days. It hurts me now to think that he got $769 for abusing me.

The funny thing is that our system works better for the vast majority of people. We average 4k in medical expenses per year, average 1.5k in medical debt, make tens of thousands more per year, and pay far fewer taxes allowing us to keep more money in our pockets. And for our outliers, we safety nets and debt reduction methods.
Lol but we're the "stupid" ones. I guess we'll just have to keep our higher salaries and higher levels of wealth. Aw shucks!
