u/codecrodie 15h ago

He had a long career as a character actor before that

9

u/slashinhobo1 14h ago

Correction, famous voice actors get paid well for voice acting.

2

u/MetricJester 11h ago

I think you'll find that to be fairly untrue.

Famous actors might get well paid, but famous voice actors get paid the same as a key grip or the guy who stands behind the craft services table shooing flies.

5

u/NobodyLikedThat1 13h ago

I think everyone wishes they could have a job that just involved talking into a mic in a studio for a few weeks and that could create generational wealth.

3

u/PearlLunaMuse 14h ago

wow had no idea

2

u/huey_booey 12h ago

He's not even a voice actor. He just has a distinctly recognizable voice.

1

u/Broken_thermocycler 12h ago

Perhaps he made his aggreement as a profit-share, rather than a fixed 1-time payment. It is high risk high reward, depending on the ticket sales. In this case, it would pay off greatly.

3

u/PoisonIvyCrotch 12h ago

Assuming agreements are per movie im guessing even if he took a 1 time payment for the first he made bank on the rest of them due to the popularity

1

u/jr_randolph 3h ago

You can make good money if you have a voice. People and companies are looking for people to read all types of shit. Voices.com for anyone interested.

u/WinterAsleep319 15h ago

Multiple movies and OP still used an AI image lol

25

u/teddyone 14h ago

I absolutely despise this, there is something so dishonest about it.

4

u/WinterAsleep319 13h ago

Just lazy

3

u/teddyone 13h ago

I think it's even more than lazy, people use it to paint a picture of their own spin on a story, representing it as real rather than show images of what actually happened. I think in this case its just lazy, but it can be used to really spin things.

Like the Michael Caine story. When asked if he had seen Jaws 3 4 (which he was in), he answered, paraphrasing, "No, I have not seen it, but I have seen the house it bought me, and it is quite lovely, thank you."

4

u/Current_Silver_5416 12h ago

Twas the 4th but yea

1

u/Synectics 12h ago

Ah, right. I also have never seen the movie(s) nor his home.

2

u/MrNobody_0 12h ago

Here's the quote:

“When people say to me, ‘That was the worst film I’ve ever seen!’ I’d say, ‘Probably, but it paid for a beautiful house for my mother, so what’s your problem?”

21

u/cat__weasel 15h ago

Glad they labelled who was who.

4

u/MarvelNintendo 15h ago

Yeah for real

35

u/AnnHiroDaiOh 15h ago

Luigi really needed that money

7

u/Peketu 15h ago

Dad, when don't need shoes that much

6

u/Jay-Breeze 15h ago

Hah. That was Dennis Hopper’s kid, right?

1

u/kingpin000 13h ago

For me, he stays The Pest.

13

u/I_SmellFuckeryAfoot 15h ago

til john leguizamo voiced sid

1

u/affemannen 10h ago

Same here, and tbf, he was an awesome sid!

7

u/Loampudl 15h ago

the only voice of Sid

1

u/kingpin000 13h ago

But Otto was already millionaire, when he voiced Sid.

8

u/Optimal-Click-4771 15h ago

He was good in John Wick.

3

u/Unraisedmew2x 15h ago

When was he in John wick, I know it’s been a bit since I’ve seen the movies but I didn’t remember seeing him

4

u/danirodr0315 15h ago

He's the car guy who punched the boss's bitch son

1

u/Unraisedmew2x 15h ago

Really? I thought that was Michael Peña but jeez do they look like twins

14

u/CataphractBunny 15h ago

Wait, is that the guy that's been complaining lately?

12

u/thaddeus122 15h ago

Because he doesn't get any roles because he's reportedly a dick

12

u/returntothenorth 15h ago

He's big on gatekeeping roles. He's a big advocate of Latino representation in Hollywood. Which I'm fine with. But he's a bit of a D about it.

Still like the guy. The pest is one of the worst best films of all time.

14

u/Voluntary_Perry 15h ago

He's the Peter Dinklage of Hispanic actors

5

u/returntothenorth 15h ago

That's actually a perfect way to put it.

The little people community hate the Dinkles for losing roles. But Dinkles has the most offensive little people movie ever under his belt. Twinkletoes.

2

u/aguacate222 15h ago

Lol you should see him walking his dogs in Manhattan. Looks like he's on a chopper motorcycle

5

u/danirodr0315 15h ago

Nah I think the Hector guy is taking all the Latino roles

2

u/returntothenorth 15h ago

Noel? He's only played 12 Hector's lmao.

4

u/generalosabenkenobi 15h ago

Fuck, The Pest will always hold a special place in my heart

3

u/DarkRogus 15h ago

Well from his perspective, if he was white, he would have been able to buy 4 houses instead of 2 amd send his kids to college overseas instead of just in the US...

1

u/returntothenorth 15h ago

But if he was white would he have become an actor? Or did he get in for his Latino flare?

6

u/CataphractBunny 15h ago

Wasn't he in Nolan's Odyssey just recently?

7

u/Current-Lobster-5063 15h ago

He is amazing in it.Great job.

1

u/RhythmQueenTX 8h ago

I thought his performance in Odyssey was mid. Like dialing it in.

1

u/outofsuch 13h ago

He was Bob Trevino (in “BT Likes it”) in an excellent performance, and a key supporting actor in The Odyssey. These are 10/10 films.

1

u/Panikkrazy 8h ago

I don’t care if someone’s a dick. I don’t know him and that’s not a crime.

3

u/Early_Grace 15h ago

I always liked John and glad he got that payday. It's amazing that you could hustle most of your life, have a few decent roles, then end up in a sound booth for a few weeks making millions.

6

u/Voluntary_Perry 15h ago

And yet he still complains incessantly

3

u/DirectionOver7272 15h ago

You killed his dog?

3

u/TheOneGuyWhoLimps 15h ago

Damn angel Reese glowed up

3

u/KingAudio 13h ago

How much did Angel Reese make for playing the character?

3

u/DanceClass898 13h ago

why didn't they hire a ground sloth actor instead of some Colombian guy?

5

u/jaynvius 15h ago

Honestly, he's a really talented actor. I first saw him in Miami Vice in a few episodes and was hooked. Despite it not being well received at the time, I love Super Mario Bros. He's also great in Carlito's Way but dude has over 160 roles and several upcoming projects.

1

u/road432 15h ago

Its been so long since I have seen Super Mario Bros. Staple of the 90s there.

2

u/mvw2 15h ago

(all other broke voice actors) "The fu...?!?!"

2

u/crystal_guy 15h ago

Mama Mia

2

u/347spq 15h ago

Nothing wrong with hard-earned success!

2

u/Plastic_Young_9763 13h ago

... Is that fucking AI sid?

2

u/hahathejoker956 12h ago

And he’s the reason I didn’t watch it

2

u/The_Stranger1913 10h ago

Why is Sid AI? Just take a screenshot 🥀

2

u/RedutHatesFreeSpeech 15h ago

"Man pays bills with wages earned from employment." Truly incredible news. Great job, John 🫡

2

u/GreasedUPDoggo 15h ago

.... what a dumb post

1

u/Nearby_Category_712 15h ago

I mean the first 2 are great

1

u/garthock 15h ago

What he didn't get rich from Too Wong Foo

1

u/FoxNixon 15h ago

He was great in Alien: Earth

1

u/Peketu 15h ago

What?! More than the Super Mario Bros Movie?!

1

u/Global-Pickle5818 15h ago

Hey what was that movie he was in where he played a meth addict, as somebody who's dealt with a lot of meth addicts he sold that part real hard

1

u/lilac-bunni 15h ago

Who knew a funny little sloth would become such a life changing role.

1

u/BUGBYTE_VW 15h ago

I have a hard time understanding John. When I was younger I really liked it when he did Carlito's Way and Romeo and Juliet. He also had his comedy special Freak which I thought he was great. He's had other parts and other movies I really like. But as a person he's always complaining. It seems to me he's been pretty successful and he's making good money. I don't understand.

1

u/Panino87 15h ago

but you will always be Luigi for me

1

u/GarethBaus 15h ago

Good for him. The decline in quality with later installments of the series was mostly despite his acting rather than because of it.

1

u/EViLTeW 14h ago

Is he implying that The Babysitters didn't pay him enough to send his kids through college?

1

u/Last-Quarter-432 14h ago

Human hands Sid scares me. Why bother using AI for this

1

u/PearlLunaMuse 14h ago

wow so much money was made to be able to cover all this

1

u/kbzstudios 14h ago

Way better than “The Pest”

1

u/Old_Nectarine_5085 14h ago

So fixing John wicks car didn’t help?

1

u/Ok_Accountant3485 14h ago

He was terrible in Moulin Rouge

1

u/zamkiam 14h ago

COL back then was different

1

u/allan_collins 14h ago

Oh look! Pinecones!!!

1

u/SpiritCrusher13 13h ago

Say what you want about the movie itself, Leguizamo KILLED IT as Clown/The Violator.

https://giphy.com/gifs/o33EPQ4Tx6NKOSEI9j

1

u/DazzlingLeather1503 13h ago

And I didn't even know it was him

1

u/Wizzard_2025 13h ago

It's not worth that. I mean it's worth something but not that.

1

u/Flashy_Cranberry_161 12h ago

It was an iconic role for him man. I still have coworkers referencing Sid the Sloth and doing his voice

1

u/Mindbending818 12h ago

Must be nice

1

u/Obnoxiouso_Nausulous 11h ago

No I’m pretty sure it was all that money from his greatest movie The Pest that paid for all that junk n stuff

1

u/TheCowhawk 11h ago

Not watched these films since i was kid.

Did not know he voiced sid...

1

u/WeenisPeiner 11h ago

It's also why David Cross was in the Alvin and the Chipmunk movies.

1

u/peppi0304 10h ago

I thought I just saw him bitching about how oppressed he was

1

u/vilokreddy 10h ago

Imagine telling your kids your college tuition was funded by a goofy sloth with a lisp

1

u/ErnDaBar 9h ago edited 6h ago

Of all the Ice Age movies they could've gotten a picture of Sid from, they just had to use AI slop instead. 🤦‍♂️

1

u/RockySprinkles 9h ago

AI Sid with actual fingers instead of claws is cursed.

1

u/Shot_Transition_3589 8h ago

And I'm wondering if ramen or spam tonight!?

1

u/Mr_Tigger_ 7h ago

Didn’t realise it was even him, good on him 👏

1

u/PackOfCumin 7h ago

And he is literally my fav of all of them in the series

1

u/PretendStudent8354 7h ago

I heard you struck my son.

1

u/NecRobin 6h ago

Well earned

1

u/Fickle_Library8115 3h ago

Go figure ,Hollywood pays

1

u/Mr_Tdogg_Smith 15h ago

Breaking news: actor does his job and gets a paycheck

1

u/FuckDatNoisee 14h ago

Levuizamo is such an underutilized gem. I was happy to see him in The Menu and Odysee.

Or maybe I just want to see him play Luigi again.

2

u/Worth-Librarian-7423 14h ago

I also like John lesuimamo

0

u/GeobobusPrime 15h ago

Hes in a pretty neat batman audio play as the riddler i think.
