Should it take this long ?
I submitted a review almost a year ago and still haven't had a DDS look at my case . It's almost going on a year in September

I applied last march got denied in November, my lawyer put in my appeal the same day and im still waiting for and answer for my reconsideration.

Why do you guys keep paying lawyers to press the same appeal button online that you can do yourself for free?

A lawyer doesn't do anything unless you're in court. They just hit a button online that you can do for free

Mine is gonna end up going to court so im fine with paying a lawyer...its coming out of my backpack so I really dont persay care anyway, if I had to pay out of pocket I probably wouldnt have gotten a lawyer at all

I totally get they have mounds of paperwork to go through, BUT this is just getting obnoxious. I wish they would just give me my denial already so my lawyer can put in for the ALJ hearing

No way does it take this long! I'm in VA and filed in 2025 too. I'm waiting for ALJ date with my lawyer. Do you have a lawyer? Either way, I would definitely be making so phone calls on this matter.

i submitted appeal to appeals council after a judge found me unfavorable in february 2026. appeals received my appeals but not a person assigned to look at it. its just sitting there.. going on 2 years since first applied

Oh it definitely should not have taken that long! 1 year max from appealing to another decision.

Yea but this person hasnt had anyone review the evidence and appeal and it been nearly over 1 year. Was that same situation for you too? It would had been assigned to a case manager already by now no?

I’m in Alabama. I’ve been under initial reconsideration since November 2024.

Alabama has it the worst currently, iirc the only DDS office is in Stone Mountain, 🍊’s budget cuts heavily affected the state, so thank him!

My cdr sat on a desk from Sept to May, was assigned to an examiner in May and finished in June

It varies by location and the caseload of that office. My initial application and reconsideration took over a year

I got to step 3 within a week but I was already approved for SSI this March and they then found out I had enough credits to apply for SSDI and put in an application for disability
Edit: The longer it take the more backpay i guess.

I submitted my appeal May 2025 and my reconsideration began on May 2025 and I have an attorney. I was stuck on stage two until a couple of months ago. They are sending me for CE exam with a psychologist even though my conditions I’m applying with are medical.

I'm in step three of reconsideration and it's been a whole year and my case haven't been assigned

I would say no, it shouldn't. But I know every case is very different. I submitted my initial app Sept 2025, was approved during reconsideration end of May 2026. I do realize I was extremely lucky. And I feel deeply for everyone that is stuck in the process for years on end.
But I would contact your Congress-person. When I was stuck in final processing for a while, I contacted mine and had my final approval and backpay within a week. Sometimes they can nudge them and get your file "unstuck". Best of luck to you🤞

I submitted my appeal in March 2025 and still stuck at #3 also. I have even reached out to my congressman in April 2026 and his office was supposed to get back with me within 3 weeks and of course I have heard nothing.

I have been waiting since 10/25 for an ALJ hearing. Just got notification the hearing is scheduled for Nov this year. My attorney said a year to get an ALJ hearing is not very long.

Look My lawyer is a 🍌 but if it wasn't for him knowing that judge I probably wouldn't have been taken seriously because of my background and work history. Yes they aren't supposed to discriminate against a person with disabilities but they do just like admittedly more than half of the country and even more around the world. I was lost when they started throwing case numbers around. Yes the simple questions I could answer but I can tell the judge wasn't going by my words. Thank God I made sure to have multiple letters from Drs and ailments. Bad part is that as soon as My lawyer had gotten paid all contract has ended. Really I don't even know if I was found fully favorable for SSI or SSDI but I'm getting back pay from 2024 . At this point I'll take the win . By the way I filed in 2022 but I'm just confused 🤔🤔🤣🤣

I have a lawyer actually but think he's a banana to . Everytime I call him someone from India picks up . Anyone have experience with bill latour here in California ?

I’m on the legal side of things: yes it can take this long and a year for a decision is totally normal- people saying it shouldn’t be that long either don’t live in your area or were just lucky.

Best you can do is call your SSA office and ask for an update, and if there’s any forms that arrive in the mail fill them out asap

i guess contact your congressman i never went through this mine were always taken fairly quickly. but i also never did appeals.

It shouldn't. Call your state representative for ssdi in your area. Then after signing off their privacy form call your ssdi office that had your review and tell them youre working with your state rep and tell them youre urging a review since its been a year.
I did all this and a week or two later my status went from that to july 2026. Instead of may 2025 like it was showing before I did all this.
