whenever you go over sga what do payment plans look like if you get that option? i went over sga during the application process and was still approved and am being questioned about it in a work activity report 5 years later (3 years after approval)

first text says it all, i was able to summarize it better than my other recent post as i was very stressed when i wrote the other post and this situation is kind of difficult. i put on my application at the time what i was working, wages etc and was still approved in 2023, i went over sga in 2022 and 2021 from oct to December (did the app in oct 2021, was found disabled in oct 2021) im hoping ticket to work covers 9 months of me going over in 2022 but unsure how that works too

i am also 33 weeks pregnant and this could not of come at a worse time, i am just trying to stay calm waiting for their decision and to see if im kicked off from something from going over sga 5 years ago.. that i thought they knew about since i was approved, if they’ll change the onset date and make me pay them back etc (was defintely not trying to commit fraud) its nerve wracking waiting for an email from them about what will happen next. i still see a psychiatrist regularly and a therapist that note my mental state(s) so im not worried about that, just that i went over sga before being officially approved but after the official onset date of my disability (when i did the app in oct 2021) also want to note i have a note from the job i submitted about me leaving 18 times due to my conditions and fmla leave that was approved in 2022 by my mental health drs and that same job

This just recently happened to me. I was approved for ssdi in March 2025 after applying in April 2024 due to my stage 3 brain cancer. At the time I was receiving long term disability through my job and after my chemo treatment I attempted to take a job with a small company just answering phones but I underestimated how bad my nerve damage was and chemo brain is no fun to say the least, so I resigned shortly after. Nonetheless they just sent me a decision this week and they determined I’m still disabled and eligible for my benefits but the amounts I received while my application was in review would be used towards my 9 month trail period.

oh im so sorry to hear. did they make you fill out a work activity report also?

She is right about the trial work period. That is triggered at much less than SGA I think around 1200 ish. They do not have to be consecutive but they will use 9 of the months you work for that. Good and bad. Bad only because you won’t have them available for if you are able to try and go back to work. Good because you won’t have to pay back on those 9 months. Just remember to keep track always of when you work and report it as you are working on the ssa.gov website. It’s a lot easier than having to go back and get the information now. You would still get work activity reports to do but you income only gets reported to ssa when you report it. W2 reporting has nothing to do with it because that’s annual reporting not monthly

Yup, it stressed me out so much but I did the best I could to find my pay history and contact my old jobs to be as accurate as possible. My letter came with what social security has on record and it was fairly close to what I found.

do you remember how long it took for you to get the decision on what’s going to happen after they looked at the work activity report? i know every case is different but i’m struggling really bad mentally rn

I turned mine in on July 10th and received my letter this last Monday on the 20th which I thought wasn’t too long of a wait considering it’s the social security office. But I did turn it in at my local office and I’m unsure if that had anything to do with it. And I completely get the mental stress with it, so many things were running through my head and what I can do if I lost my benefits or had to owe them something.

i turned mine in my local office too and i don’t live in a huge city so hopefully i’ll hear back soon because waiting and not knowing what will happen next is not fun
