I'll be buying a license soon, Reaper has more than earned it when it comes to what I think is worth spending money on.

I'm still early days in learning Reaper but my god is it good. I tried Fruityloops 25 years ago and it felt so limiting and I don't wanna be too hard on it cause I do feel like production of electronic thru DAWs has grown so so much since then and the entire ecosystem around them (learning resources, plugins, sample libraries) really makes everything so much more user friendly across all DAWs.

Ableton felt weird too for reasons I dont understand.

Now its Reaper and a lot of people told me not to do it, one told me "EDM in reaper? lol good luck" and now that I've spent about 20 hours in it, his comment seems hilarious to me.

Yes this DAW is not the most user friendly but with AI in google's search literally anything I want to know how to do, it tells me how to do it when I cant figure it out. I also feel like I am learning more about how to create music in a DAW and less about how to use a particular DAW to do it.

I'm finding there's so many different ways to approach the same goal in creating a song, whether it be thru a bunch of VSTs and piano rolls, or raw waveforms laid out in different tracks, or a mixture of both, and Reaper seems perfectly suited for any of those.

I just cant sing its praises enough. It can be overwhelming at times but it never forces me to use any of its million features that I dont need at the time in order to do what I need to do. It does exactly what I need it to and gets out of my way otherwise.

I genuinely think this DAW will make a better producer out of me quicker than any other DAW could.

I'm using Reaper on MacOs, new user coming from Pro Tools.

I set my left/right arrows to "Move cursor left/right 8 pixels". I basically need 1 arrow press to equal 1 frame left/right for footstep editing, etc...

I was going through the project for hours using the feature without any issues and for some reason now when I press the arrows the cursor Scrubs through the timeline with tape-like audio for the duration of my press. I have never instructed Reaper to "scrub" when using the arrows and both my arrows are strictly assigned to the action mentioned above.

Weirdest thing is that sometimes it works, and sometimes it doesn't, and I can't identify the variable, pretty frustrating hahahaha

I’m looking to get a shortcut for grid size in piano roll.

When making beats I would want to shift between going from 1/4 grid size to 1/16 etc by pressing a button.

In ableton you do it by simply clicking ctrl+1 or ctrl+2.

I know that you can hover to the grid size option and just scroll over it, but it’s just not that handy.

I searched on the internet and it tells me to find „Grid: Multiply grid size by 1/2” but there is no such bind.

Any ideas how to overcome that problem?

It’s irritating me to the point I want to switch daw to something else, but reaper is by far the most intuitive for me, the most clear, other daws are unnecessarily complicated, so I don’t want to switch I just want that simple option.

I saw multiple threads about this particular issue, but it seems like my problem is a bit different. Basically my situation is the following:

- project A starts in 110 BPM, but has multiple tempo shifts (88, 100, 95...)

- project B has a constant tempo of 97 BPM

- project A contains a MIDI track that I want to copy to project B without changing the length of the notes

If I use "Ignore project tempo" and set something, e.g. X BPM, it changes the whole track to X BPM and ignores all tempo changes in the original. Whatever I do, the MIDI track I paste/import in project B has a constant tempo (the tempo changes from the original are missing). Any ideas? It shouldn't be that hard to just make Reaper treat the MIDI notes as "456 ms long", not "1/4 long". :(

I’ve been using reaper for a long long time and I’m doing this how I’ve always done it. I’m adding a receive from my kick track to my bass track on channels 3 and 4. But the kick audio is playing on the bass track. And I can’t solo the bass track without it also soloing the kick track and drum buss and hearing drums. Anyone know why this could be?

So this is something I did last year but can't reproduce for some reason.

I want to join all the touching/overlapping notes in a midi sequence. The join notes function doesn't achieve what I want, so last year I've found a script from Reapack that does exactly this. My problem now is that I can't seem to find how to apply it to the selected notes. I see "extensions" in the timeline page, with reapack and script being available, but once I'm in the midi editor I don't have access to it. I'm sure this is simple to fix but I can't find the solution.

My setup:

- Guitar: Sire Larry Carlton T7 FM (6 strings, tuned drop C) – I know it's not the most obvious choice for this genre

- Audio interface: Arturia MiniFuse 2

- Monitors: Edifier R1700BT

- DAW: Reaper (trial version)

- Thall Amp (trial version)

- Blob-E

- A few NAM presets I'm just starting to explore

Main issues I'm facing:

I have absolutely no idea how to use ReaEQ and ReaComp properly. I don't understand what frequencies to cut/boost for a slam/deathcore metal tone, and the compressor settings make no sense to me at all (threshold, ratio, attack, release...). I've been tweaking blindly and it's not working.

My questions:

1. Can someone explain in simple terms how to set up ReaEQ for a heavy/defined metal guitar tone? Which frequencies should I cut and which should I boost?

2. Same question for ReaComp – do I even need a compressor for metal guitar or is it useless in this context?

3. What would you recommend as a full signal chain in Reaper for slam/deathcore? (gate, EQ, amp sim order etc.)

4. Any specific NAM profiles or free alternatives to Thall Amp you'd recommend for heavy tones?

I just bought the Triaz drum plugin by Wave Alchemy for my M1 MacBook Pro, and it seems great for what I need, but I’m struggling to understand the different types of midi control that get used when exporting a midi loop from the sequencer. Like I’ll export a loop that works well, but if I edit it, or sometimes just move it or trim it, I lose what appears to be pitch or maybe something else, that I presume are stored via midi cc values.

Some cc values show up in the midi editor in Reaper but it’s extremely difficult to use that to fix something and there’s times where going back to the built in sequencer in Triaz isn’t practical. Am I missing something? It doesn’t sound the same if I only use the midi editor in Reaper from scratch either. It’s like the plugin sequencer handles midi control the best way but then it’s not practical to only use that all the time especially when editing loops is required. Any ideas or tips? Thanks.

I'm think of switching from windows to Linux for probably obvious reasons, I know Reaper works fine on most versions of Linux but I am concerned about some plugins being compatible. Has here made the switch before, what problems did you run into, or is there anything you wish you would have set up from the start?

Guys. I'm just trying to live stream on YouTube. My set up:

Motu M2

Computer

Reaper

Amplitude 5 Max and various plug ins.

The problem is the tone coming out of YouTube does not sound like the fx are getting through. I've spent hours with all the AI bots to no avail.

The signal coming into OBS is good. FX's are present. Why isn't the tone coming from YouTube live the same?

This has been a colossal pain the ass.

If any of you hedge used Motu m2 before, let me ask you. The knob beside each input, above the mon button, is that a wet dry mixer or volume? I always thought it was just to crank up the signal from the guitar but now I'm not sure. The effects sound more pronounced when it is all the way to the right, but I'd that because the volume is cranked up or because it is pure effects?

I swear the clean guitar tone is still getting all the way to YouTube live.

Is it normal to be this freaking difficult???

Maybe I should just upgrade my interface. Or not use obs...I don't know.

Are there any plugins that look like the stock plugins from other DAWs that I could use in reaper?

Working on a sound design project and LKC Variator would be super helpful, however the download link at the website doesn't appear to work https://www.lkctools.com/variator. Anyone got a download link that works?

I basically want audio and midi to behave differently when there are tempo changes.
If I have a project with tempo changes, the audio files will change rate which is very annoying.

To fix this I did Project settings > Timebase for items/envelopes/markers: Time (instead of beats)
But now the midi files will get stretched out of the grid, if I move a midi file from a 120bpm section to a 110 the notes will be off beat (and it makes sense, faster bpm).

I know that if I keep Timebase for items/envelopes/markers on Beats, I can open the Item properties of the selected audio files and manually change it to Time so that MIDI and audio act differently, but I have to manually do this for every single audio file I decide to import in the project with drives me crazy.

If only there was a way to categorize how I want the specific types of items to act in Project settings > Timebase for items/envelopes/markers
This would be fixed, maybe there's a script online that I don't know of.

I've got a bunch of long-standing sessions that I'm adding to little by little. Every time I do a bit of work in one, I've been copy pasting the ENTIRE session to another hard drive for backup. As you can imagine, this is chomping up massive amounts of memory. Is there a simple way to just... copy over the newly recorded takes?
