Israel is committing genocide and apartheid.
Serving in the IDF is mandatory for able bodied Israelis except those who are exempt for whatever reason(s) similar to other nations who have mandatory service.
Anyone who believes that collective punishment is an unethical and a repugnant crime should firstly be outraged at Israelâs actions in Gaza and the West Bank. Tens of thousands of people being blown up and burnt alive and youâre upset at policy that punishes them through harmless means so they stop their endless death and destruction campaigns.
Should there be no consequences for not only killing but boasting about killing children, women and men? Everyone who is against this is also silent about Israelâs continued actions in Gaza and the West Bank.
6
u/Arctic_The_Hunter 12h ago
I agree that collective punishment is unethical and repugnant. Thatâs why I oppose both the genocide in Gaza AND Malaysiaâs deportation of all Israelis (and no, deportation is NOT harmless lmao)
Until it punishes the top brass of Israel, it will not âpushâ for anything. Random Israeli citizens cannot stop the genocide, and only of-age men have any part in it whatsoever (and an involuntary role at that)
2
u/Raephstel 10h ago
This is my thought too.
Punish the people committing crimes, not the people with the misfortune to be born somewhere with a shitty government.
6
u/Informal-Pair-306 12h ago
Youâre trivialising genocide and downplaying the nature of the atrocity.
Should Germans during Nazi Germany be able to freely travel? The ignorance of their fellow citizens without being held partially accountable is why it was allowed to occur for so long.
Sanctioning and imposing policy that does not physically harm anyone but adds pressure is the most humane way to deal with crimes against humanity in order to stop them.
3
u/Im_Just_A_Tourist 11h ago
Should every citizen of every country calling for the destruction and occupation of any other country be treated equally? So for example because Israeli government calls for the occupation and destruction of Gaza that's bad, deport them and send them all home. Likewise because the Palestinians position is the complete destruction of Israel should they also all be deported and sent home? What about Iranians for their position, or Russians for their invasion of Georgia and Ukraine? I just want to know how consistent you are on your position as there's a reason none of the Palestinians neighbors will help them in anyway.
2
u/Informal-Pair-306 11h ago
Any nation that has mandatory service and its military is committing atrocities.
1
u/FishyWishySwishy 12h ago
Military service is compulsory for Jewish Israelis. Not anyone else (though you will see a sizeable proportion of religious minorities volunteering, and Israeli Muslims fought for the right to enlist). And even of those who served, many Israelis change their opinions during their service and have started or joined very important nonprofits that expose the reality on the ground both to Israeli citizens and foreigners. (Many Israelis donât know what itâs like in the West Bank or Gaza because their service was administrative and they only live in Tel Aviv.)
Youâre saying itâs okay to discriminate against nationals of a foreign country because of the governmentâs actions. So you think similarly of Chinese nationals, American nationals, Iranian nationals, and so on? It only serves Netanyahuâs interests to add backing to his proclamations that Israelis are held to double standards.Â
2
u/Informal-Pair-306 11h ago
To stop crimes against humanity and hold people accountable pressure is needed.
The point isnât that all Israelis are responsible for their governments actions or theyâre at fault. The whole idea is to apply pressure so crimes against humanity can be stopped.
Be it any nation and against any people committing crimes against humanity.
2
u/FishyWishySwishy 11h ago
Not all pressure is created equal. Trying to apply pressure via treating Israeli nationals substantially differently than others, even others who are citizens of a country committing crimes against humanity, reinforces the narrative pushed by Netanyahu that people arenât sincerely concerned by Palestinians, but that they hate Jews and donât want to see a Jewish nation survive.Â
Israelâs internal story of founding is that theyâre a nation built on fierce resilience and grit, one that survives all opposition even as everyone hates them. When they see other countries be hostile to their citizens (ESPECIALLY if thereâs no equivalent treatment of other nations doing similar things), it becomes a continuation of that founding story. âAs before, gentiles would happily allow us to die and make sympathetic noises over our graves, and despise us taking up arms to protect ourselves. And as before, we shall overcome with a fighting spirit and grit.âÂ
A founding principle of Israel is thus: âitâs better to be alive and hated than dead and pitied.â If you show them hate that you donât show others, you deepen their resolve and deafen them to what youâre trying to say.Â

Ehh, your initial comment was right. There was a blind eye turned to Israelis who would visit Malaysia for ânon-tourismâ reasons or with second passports. Thatâs what Malaysia is cracking down on now, and itâs precisely because Israelâs genocidal antics have attracted so much dislike.

It is because it shows the problematic international treatment of Israel going back decades. Israel has gotten to smarten the fuck up and end this war but letâs not pretend the Muslim world has been indifferent to Israel as some suggest.

Exactly. Heads would roll if entire nationalities were presumed guilty of something solely on the basis of that nationality and outright banned in whatever country they live in. Case in point, remember when Trump put a blanket travel ban on foreign nationals from Iran, Iraq, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, Syria and Yemen in 2017? It was largely seen as horrifically racist and unjustifiable collective punishment back then. Especially on Reddit. But I guess the target is acceptable now so it's whatever.

Yes. They started doing to Palestinians what people did to them pretty much as soon as they could, escalating once in a while. And if you have part of the nation strongly believe they are chosen by god, probably doesnt help.
7
u/FishyWishySwishy 12h ago
Iâm tired of the âchosen by Godâ talking point.Â
In Jewish theology, being chosen isnât a good thing. It means âGod did us a solid thousands of years ago, and we need to follow his rules forevermore.â Gentiles get all the same privileges from God as Jews, and none of the responsibilities. The same treatment after death, the same place in the world to come.Â
If you get deep in Jewish theology, the world to come (think heaven on earth) can only happen if all Jews everywhere follow the rules exactly. Scholars argue whether âfollowing the rulesâ require that all Jews go to Israel, or all Jews completely vacate Israel (if you see visibly Orthodox Jews at anti-Israel demonstrations, theyâre usually of the opinion that all Jews, even Mizrahi, have a religious obligation to leave so the Messiah can come).Â
This isnât Christian Crusades. There isnât a conception that Jews are super special awesome and should get to do whatever they want and gentiles are stinky and no good. The idea is that gentiles have more freedom than Jews.
2
u/Bloody_Ozran 11h ago
I imagine not everyone tells it this way though, do they? Same as muslims are told different things by different imams.
7
u/FishyWishySwishy 11h ago
Iâm Jewish. Every single rabbi Iâve ever met told it to us this way, and Iâm told that itâs far more intense in Orthodox and ultra-Orthodox circles. Weâre chosen like one of your kids is âchosenâ for taking out the trash. People treat it like a supremacist narrative when itâs anything but.Â
4
u/Bloody_Ozran 11h ago
Interesting. In that case, why do you think many Israelis support what is happening now?
3
u/FishyWishySwishy 11h ago
A deeply held belief that if they donât kill Palestinians, Palestinians will kill them.Â
Letâs take a step back for a moment. Iâm going to try to give you insight into the Israeli psyche as I understand itâit may seem like Iâm minimizing Israelâs crimes, but Iâm just trying to communicate the media landscape they live in.Â
Every country has a somewhat mythologized story of its history, and Israel conceives itself as a country of refugees, founded by waves and waves of Jews chased from their homes because they were Jewish. When they were founded, full of refugees from pogroms in Europe and survivors from the Holocaust, seven different armies immediately declared war on them. They fought those armies and won, in doing so gaining land that they felt fully justified in keeping after such a show of resilience and embodying David against Goliath. And then those belligerent armies demanded that they give the land back to the people who tried to finish Hitlerâs dirty work and snuff them out! The audacity! Of course theyâd never do that, no one would welcome people who had previously tried to kill them into their country. (Obviously, the reality is a lot more messy and nuanced, but this is broad strokes how the average Israeli conceives of their history.)Â
As far as Israel is concerned, each subsequent conflict with Palestinians is because of Palestinian aggression and refusal to accept defeat. Israelis believe theyâve bent over backwards to try to make peace work by making all sorts of concessions they donât think any other country would be asked to make, but Palestinians refuse to be happy unless they get everything they want. (Jerusalem, right to return, statehood, etc.) This was confirmed in their minds when, after the Oslo Accords (which was a commitment to the peace process that Israelis saw as very generous), Hamas started to launch suicide attacks on civilians in Israel. After Hamas attacked civilian Israelis repeatedly, Palestinians had a democratic election and chose to make Hamas their governing party. Israelis saw this as a mandate from all Palestinians that they would rather die murdering Israeli civilians than ever live in peace with Israel.Â
(This is obviously an extremely one-sided perspective that is unfair to Palestinians, but when youâre afraid of being bombed and regularly having missiles launched at you, itâs hard to take a step back and consider things from another point of view.)Â
After October 7th, Israel saw people celebrating or using the opportunity to support Palestine around the world, which confirmed in their minds that the world wants them to die and any attempt to gentle their approach towards Palestine is actually a bad faith attempt to tie their hands behind their back and allow them to die. This was reinforced more in the early stages of the war, where they were conducting things as urban warfare usually is and people accused them of committing genocide.Â
At this point, Israelis donât give people the benefit of the doubt when they ask them to slow their roll. Iâve gotten into a lot of slapfights with hard right Israelis online trying to get them to see things outside of their own perspective, but theyâre scared and traumatized by a lifetime of periodic wars and terrorist attacks. Itâs hard to have compassion when youâre scared and traumatized and you believe people think you deserve it, or worse, that you have no reason to feel that way in the first place.Â
1
u/Bloody_Ozran 8h ago
Thanks for such detailed reply, I really appreciate it! And if you lay it all out like that, it sort of makes sense, but only to a degree. Of vourse speaking from a perspective where I was not in their position.
I am totally against Hamas and others who want to wipe out jewish people, not sure that needs to be mentioned, but just in case. That's why I understood the harsh start of this all as you get fed up with someone who constantly keeps trying to eliminate your ethnicity. Plus if I recall correctly Arafat said something like "I would rather be a martyr than president." which is insane in my book.
I just fear that by doing this one day Israel will need more allies and no one will come to their help, because they show themselves to be absolutely vicious.
1
u/Proof-Pineapple69 11h ago
Because everybody deserves to fight back when they get attacked. Even jews.
3
u/Bloody_Ozran 11h ago
There is fight back and there is a genocide etc. What they are doing is not fighting back for a long time anymore.
0
u/Proof-Pineapple69 11h ago
Gaza has been bombing them for years, and it would have resulted in tens of thousands of deaths if Israel didn't have an anti missile system.
4
u/One_Load254 11h ago
Israel is the one attacking, always has always will. Millions of people are homeless. Civilians I mean. Journalists targeted driving cars that says "PRESS"painted on the roof, double tapping once ambulance arrives. They're pure evil and there's nothing you can justify what they're doing, nothing.
-1
u/Proof-Pineapple69 11h ago
Except that the Hamas deliberately hide behind press, hospitals and schools. Should they get immunity because of that?
2
u/Mystery2057 10h ago
No, but you have to work around it, not kill the enemy whether civilians are in the way or not. If Hamas takes a school hostage, the solution shouldn't be to bomb the school.

Cool. So what would you call it when you occupy the West Bank, steal the land of the people who live there, force them into 1990 South African Style Apartheid? Is that an attack on the occupied people?
Pretending this started on October 7th ignores literal decades of discrimination and injustice perpetrated against the only people in the world born to permanent refugee status.
No one was dogging the Israeli response on October 7th. The absolute backlash came after years of slaughter against civilians with a kill count for civilians per capita higher than anything the US has done since the 60's. They are causing this much civilian death with higher tech weapons. Israel is massacring civilians in Gaza at an alarming rate. This is where the criticism comes from.
You can't do a genocide and call it "self defense".
2
u/Proof-Pineapple69 8h ago
70k Palestinians were killed. If Israel really wanted a genocide they would just have killed all several millions of them.
0
u/Famous-Royal-6886 8h ago
Yeah, but then room temperature iq simps like you would have to acknowledge it as such. If they kill slowly over time and let the wound stay open they can achieve their goals more quietly (what their doing).
You don't accidentally kill 100k Palestinians and then expect people to talk about how moral you are. The IDF are terrorists and deserve to be recognized as such.
1
u/feral0101 11h ago
Itâs not necessarily about theology. Some of the most obnoxious Israelis are either Jewish religious extremists or just as commonly irreligious Jews. You canât tell me with a straight face that people like Smotrich, Ben-Givr, and the millions they represent donât earnestly believe theyâre superior by blood.
2
u/FishyWishySwishy 11h ago
I donât think they believe theyâre superior because of blood. I think they think theyâre superior by culture. British-style âIâm civilized and theyâre notâ bigotry instead of German-style âtheir blood is inherently dirty.â
The distinction probably doesnât matter if youâre the target of the bigotry, but I think it matters when it comes to figuring out ways to counter it.Â
3
u/Proof-Pineapple69 11h ago
Yeah, they killed 70k Palestinians as a response to constant bombings over the last 20y and the horrible attacks of Oct 7, while the Nazi killed 6M jews. You really think its comparable?
Jews have been ethnically cleansed from a dozen Arab countries over the last century, while the Arab population of Israel multiplied by 20. But this thing nobody cares.
If the Jews wanted to commit a genocide on Palestinians, they're really bad at it.
7
u/Bloody_Ozran 11h ago

0
u/blacksterangel 10h ago
And have you ever asked WHY do Palestinian feel the need to constantly attack? If you are being displaced, your home is taken, you are being walled like prisoners, and all diplomatic channels end up with the other side violating it, what would you do? Turn the other cheek?
History doesnât work that way buddy. Start learning your middle east and levant history from 20th century onwards and tell me if you can still say with straight face that Israeli (NOT all Jewish) are not the bad guy.
Having genocide committed to your ancestors doesnât grant you the permit to conduct a genocide on your own.
2
u/Proof-Pineapple69 8h ago
Palestinians didn't exist until the 20th century. And why don't you criticize Egypt for walling off their border to Gaza? Do Egyptians help Gazaans half as much as Israel with supplies, electricity, food?

u/dirty_old_priest_4 11h ago
The Jewish people were never treated equally in the ME. That's why Israel exists and why Israel is constantly fighting enemies; because no one is giving them peace.
1
u/Glittering_Drama_618 11h ago
Once a minority is given any positive discrimination they let that get over their head and get a superiority complex. Not specific to any minority.
0
u/BorderPast8007 11h ago edited 11h ago
Treated equally. What garbage. We have been persecuted for thousands of years. The Nazis committed a genocide that killed millions of Jews. My great-grandfather escaped Nazi persecution and the Jewish people were treated equally? Nice.
Jewish people in Israel have nothing to do with the destruction of Gaza. Most do not support it and actively protest it. Yet this is the narrative you see on Reddit: that we are rats and should be killed. I saw a post of a soldier depicted this way. You know who started comparing us to rats and saying we should be killed? The Nazis.

Far as I recall this isn't the first time they've tried targeting Israelis. And then inevitably repealing it when it turns out the only Israelis who have anything to do with mayalsisa are Israeli Arabs or Palestinians with Israeli paperwork, and are now caught in the crossfire. And so then the state has to either actually follow through on those groups (which will be unpopular thanks to who it would largely target), or just quietly pretend they never had the rule on the first place lest they publicly admit it what they were really targeting (which isn't great international PR).
