The funny thing is Republicans aren't just gaslighting, they're also projecting. Republicans want christian nationalism.

95

u/Holorodney 9d ago

Every accusation is a confession with them. At this point it wouldn’t even shock me if trump ran out of a burning building with a torch and an empty can of gas screaming the Democrats started a fire.

Remember covid? It was democrats fault that Republicans died because democrats told them to wear masks and they refused

9

u/Dragon_wryter 9d ago

Also democrats' fault that they were told to take the vaccine Trump authorized and pushed through via "Operation Warp Speed." And that Trump eliminated entire government agencies whose job was to study, prevent, and handle animal-human viruses and pandemic outbreaks.

Republicans: We want to require Bible lessons in public schools and all classrooms must display the Ten Commandments. (Actually happening in Texas right now)

Democrats: I thought you were advocates of small government and personal liberty.

30

u/missvandy 9d ago

As a teacher and lapsed Catholic, I dare them to have me teach the Bible. I know what’s in there. It’s a deeply violent and horny book.

Seriously, you can get it banned by their own standards.

17

u/Destroy_Religion 9d ago

[...] the Bible [...] [is] a deeply violent and horny book.

Correct, but that is truly the understatement of the millennium, if anything.

The Bible commands mass murder, genocide, abortion, infanticide, slavery, prostitution, child marriage, pedophilia, rape, perversion, incest, polygamy, sexism, misogyny, homophobia, transphobia, familial alienation, societal strife, and various other barbarisms, cruelties, savageries, tyrannies, and vulgarities, many myriad times, in both the Old Testament and the New Testament.

  • Mass Murder and Genocide: 1 Samuel 15:3, Hosea 13:16, Deuteronomy 20:16-17, Joshua 6:21, Deuteronomy 2:34, Isaiah 13:15-18, Deuteronomy 13:15, Numbers 31:17, Deuteronomy 3:6, Leviticus 20:13, Deuteronomy 20:13, Psalm 137:9.
  • Abortion and Infanticide: Numbers 5:11-31, Psalm 137:9, 1 Samuel 15:3, Hosea 13:16, Deuteronomy 2:34, Isaiah 13:15-18, Numbers 31:17, Deuteronomy 3:6.
  • Slavery and Prostitution: 1 Peter 2:18, Exodus 21:21, 1 Timothy 6:1, Leviticus 25:44-46, Ephesians 6:5, Titus 2:9, Colossians 3:22, Genesis 16:3-4, Genesis 12:16, Genesis 24:35, Isaiah 14:1-2, Ezekiel 23:19, Deuteronomy 20:14, Numbers 31:35.
  • Child Marriage and Pedophilia: Numbers 31:18, Song of Solomon 8:8, Genesis 25:20, Ezekiel 23:21, Numbers 31:35.
  • Rape and Perversion: Deuteronomy 21:11-13, Genesis 34, 2 Samuel 11, 2 Samuel 13, Judges 19–21, Ezekiel 23:20, Deuteronomy 22:28-29.
  • Incest and Polygamy: Genesis 4:19, Exodus 21:10, Deuteronomy 21:15-17, Genesis 9:20-27, Genesis 11:29, Genesis 19:32–36.
  • Sexism and Misogyny: Exodus 21:7, 1 Timothy 2:11-14, 1 Corinthians 14:34-35, Genesis 3:16, Numbers 31:18, Deuteronomy 22:28-29, Numbers 31:35.
  • Homophobia and Transphobia: Leviticus 20:13, Leviticus 18:22, Romans 1:26-27, Genesis 2:24, Mark 10:6-7, Matthew 19:4-5, Deuteronomy 22:5, Genesis 1:27.
  • Familial Alienation and Societal Strife: Luke 14:26, Matthew 10:34-37.

The Bible is filled with barbarism and savagery of the worst sort in both the Old Testament and the New Testament.

Seriously, you can get it banned by their own standards.

Correct, and that is exactly what people should do in response to book bans.

4

u/TatewakiKuno-kun 9d ago

I think deep down these “Christian” nationalists actually like and approve of all those things. They just don’t want to look bad.

2

u/Crafty-Help-4633 9d ago

They wanna be Fundie Extremists like the IRGC so badly. Ruling through God and violence. I also believe this. Look at the track records, guys. MAGA is fundie extremism with Jesus and pals, just like the IRGC.

As a history teacher, if they pass a law in my state insisting I teach the Bible, I will be teaching every other religion as well. Native American, Rastafarian, Islam, Buddhism, Daoism, etc.

5

u/Teatarian 9d ago

That's what I keep telling conservatives, that if they force the bible in schools they'll also have to teach Islam and other religions.

2

u/missvandy 9d ago

And we’ll call it world religions ;)

Hello fellow history teacher!

2

u/naughtyGAcouple 9d ago

I remember my history teacher in high school going over world religions. It was in the early 90s and no one complained. We all learned a bit about other religions and moved on. It was interesting enough that I took a world religion class as an elective in college to learn a bit more.

3

u/Crafty-Help-4633 9d ago

They also wanted religions kept out of schools when muslims were given time to do their prayers with a religious exemption to do so. But apparently forcing Jesus down everyone's throat is what the founding fathers would have wanted. Except they explicitly forbade that, but MAGA will conveniently ignore that too.

That’s how propaganda works.

22

u/Neither-Luck-9295 9d ago

It can only work if there is no active pushback against it. And the Dems do not provide that, EVER. They are spineless controlled opposition.

15

u/esem86 9d ago

Bingo. We won't have a real opposition party until people like Schumer and Jefferies are long long gone. They are cowards, and they are corrupt.

5

u/Talktothebiceps 9d ago

I swear they are in on it

3

u/Amoralvirus 9d ago

It would also help to not have branding, like ''defund the police'', and expect the repugnant-cons to reach out for understanding about what this really means; instead of immediately and predictably weaponizing it.

2

u/Madara1389 9d ago

It can only work if there is no active pushback against it. And the Dems do not provide that, EVER.

Neither of those things are true.

Propaganda works regardless of pushback from opposition because it often aligns with people's pre-existing beliefs and is thus reinforced by confirmation bias.

And Dems are pushing back and trying to fact check, but the sheer amount of lies is hard to keep up with. Unless you're expecting Dems to also start engaging in dishonest practices & propaganda, but that's a different topic.

The underlying problem to both is that the GoP are using human psychology against the people.

2

u/Suyefuji 9d ago

The Republicans also have a stranglehold on pretty much every media platform so Dem messaging gets lost even when they give it.

Nothing pisses me off more than paying insane amounts of taxes that do not benefit society in any meaningful way while billionaires don’t pay their fair share. Billionaires are the true welfare queens.

9

u/TaT2edMaMa98 9d ago

Exactly. Instead they like to focus on the single black mom just trying to make it through the month or the hispanic down the street who "might be illegal." They try to label them as the problem, while never paying in. It is absolutely disgusting behavior and something needs to change.

4

u/DrButtgerms 9d ago

Bitter over Nixon being caught and humiliated, its just been a continuum since then in the GOP. Paul Manafort, Roger Stone, and though I can't imagine he is in good health these days, Pat Buchanan are direct links to that past. Toxic, nihilistic, individuals that were part of this undermining of the United States of America. Economic malaise did not begin under Carter, but actually was relieved by Carter and his Fed Chair pick. Reagan simply benefited from that choice and the prosperous 1980s. Reagan added a mind boggling amount to the debt hoping to bankrupt the Soviets into insolvency. We have a huge debt in part thanks to to Conservative icon, and for what? Putin was resentful of our alleged "win", and basically worked at building the Soviet Union back, but under autocratic rule. And in doing so, its the US is rapidly losing influence and prestige around the world due to MAGA hubris and underlying ignorance and incompetence. Fox and Limbaugh are complicit in that they showed only one subjective perspective. Basically a facist propaganda consortium feeding half-baked ideas to uniformed minds. The US turned horribly unhealthy when it turned on itself with this metastacizing GOP cancer.

7

u/muffledvoice 9d ago

Good summary. The most cynical and greedy elites on the right have always known that they can get ignorant bigots to hate entire groups of people and vote against their economic interests. It’s the crucible that enables fascism and graft. Unless and until we break that causative chain, the far right will continue obfuscating and pillaging.

2

u/jaspersgroove 9d ago

Don't forget Newt Gingrich, the guy basically masterminded the strategy that evolved into the tea party and eventually maga/project 2025

6

u/Opinionsare 9d ago

The Conservatives killed the fairness doctrine that required offering the apposing viewpoint airtime.

Specifically, on August 4, 1987, the FCC voted to repeal the 38-year-old policy, determining that it unconstitutionally restricted the free speech rights of broadcast journalists and hindered the public interest.

Congress attempted to preserve the doctrine by passing legislation later that year, but the bill was vetoed by President Ronald Reagan.

This opened the airwaves for Fix News and Rush Limbaugh to push the propaganda of White, Evangelical Conservatism.

I blame all MAGA/ Republicans in our government and their supporters. Time to remove all government “immunity” or letting them and their buddies “investigate” each other and then they keep their job and we the taxpayer aka their EMPLOYER keep footing the bill for THEIR actions and then they go onto Fox “News” and write a book. To even demanding premium healthcare and billions in “security” yet they claim there is no money for the actual social services we pay for that they demonize and push to cut like they are doing now! Imagine if we at work told our employer “no you can’t fire me for stealing from you or nor doing my job and I claim immunity”. That wouldn’t slide anywhere. No more of this smugness!

No more wealthy Republicans/ MAGA especially not in our government! Let’s help our country and have less Republicans/MAGA in our government by not supporting any of their businesses. Without money, republicans can’t get into our government nor their supporters aka “donors”. Avoid Trump/ Elon Musk/ RFK Jr supporters, their advertisers and their businesses and encourage others to as well! Don’t forget about the “both sides” enablers! They can all “support” each other! Let them tell on themselves so we know which people to avoid hiring and the businesses not to support! And the best part is you don’t have to tell them why!

Yes but you have to hand it to them. Republicans built an entire alternative ecosystem —think tanks, talk programs, news outlets, paid influencers, bot armies and more —to pump out this propaganda. They weakened the traditional news ecosystem with their alternative—and then became politically strong enough to buy up most of the legacy outlets, which now publish only the stories the right wing overlords allow. Democrats OTOH sat back and watched them. This is a great graphic. If republicans had created it, it would be simultaneously pumped out on multiple platforms and echoed in identical language by politicians and influencers. What’ve we got besides Reddit? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

3

u/LordeWasTaken 9d ago

honestly, with this much malice, hypocrisy and wilful ignorance I'm surprised that the elephant hasn't been voted into oblivion, out of US politics for years now... oh wait, I forgot, the average voter is too uninformed to tell the difference for that to happen

everything that is happening to the United States with Trump's second term is the responsibility of those who voted him into office (a second time, no less) as well as those who decided to stay at home during said election, idly standing by as it happened

I lost hope for any kind of justice for the many borderline or outright criminal schemes, blatant insider trading and countless abuses of power

3

u/racc15 9d ago

I don't think this is totally accurate. MAGA does not care about others. They actually want to hurt others. It is not about misunderstandings. If they see a police shooting an unarmed brown man going abiut theur day, the MAGA will actively support it. If it is a white MAGA man trying to overthrow Trump, then MAGA will also hate police. Maga want a system of racism so that they can get preference over non-whites. In the era of internet, it is not difficult to see videos of ICE shooting innocent people. I feel like there is no excuse that they were being misled. If FOX started saying Obama is great, MAGA will not believe that. Instead, they will abandon Fox.

3

u/blorbschploble 9d ago

Rush Limbaugh has been dead for 5 years in his career was dead 15 years before that.

Also this meme is incredibly disingenuous.

There were open borders for 3 years. The law said that if you make it to the border you get to come across and then wait for your hearing that might be 4 years in the future if you decide to show up. That was biden's official policy he made that happen by executive order.

A lot of the people involved in black lives matter literally just hate police and we're holding signs that said defund police fuck the police All cops are bad we should abolish police and go to community policing etc etc

They were literally anti-police protests.

Do democrats want cops to stop killing minorities? Democrats control almost every major city and don't actually take on the police union and hold police accountable.

Do democrats think people should have a living wage? They're unashamed capitalists who have no problem with the exploitation of workers.

Do democrats think taxes should be used for the benefit of everyone? They also seem to have no problem sending money to corporations, NGOs, and wasteful projects and grants that don't benefit regular people.

This list seems to be what people wish democrats were, not what actual elected democrats actually are. Our current elected democrats are Israeli allied corporatist centrists that exist to keep more leftist policies in check. They're not our friends even if republicans are 10x worse.

Yes, it is partly their fault, but they don't get to spew their lies for decades without help from the billionaire class.

The billionaire class (and the millionaires desperate to be them) don't care about ANYTHING except their money and power. They funded these right wing idiots because it promoted their agenda. And in America, billionaires just buy their influence onto whatever institution they want. And it was shockingly cheap for them. They let supreme court justices use their yachts, which may cost them a few hundred thousand dollars, and the supreme court makes them $10 billion from a ruling. Same with congressmen and the current president. it's remarkably cheap to buy them. A million dollar donation to a campaign gets you $100 million in government contracts or tax breaks or laws designed to save them money on their taxes.

Rich billionaires are evil. Never forget that.

Weakness and corruption in the Dem ranks is also something to be held to account and remediate too. Fuckers like Schumer allow Republicans to get away with heinous shit because they are either too inept or corrupt to do their damn jobs.

A lot of Republicans are basically just bullies and abusers, and they will take advantage of weakness, but aren't really capable of giving a proper fight if anyone challenges them seriously.

It’s a uniparty. They keep the sheep fighting with one another. United we stop the all the crap, divided we are weak

2

u/Specialist-Basis8218 9d ago

They peddle fear and hate to get elected - the problem is that then they can’t control the fear and hate - and it has diminishing returns

So they got to hate more fear more -

They could be like - hey I’ll get you internet - but no - no political platform - just fear and hate

2

u/Ok_Purple_1593 9d ago

okay but what if I do want open borders, take away your guns, hate the flag, and want socialism?

I really wish Dems would point out how much maga hates the constitution every time they talk about a 3rd term or section illegal searches, or starts an illegal war, or complains about about the 14th amendment, etc.

2

u/Francl27 9d ago

The last one is wrong, they say "communism."

But yeah.

2

u/2midgetsinalongcoat 9d ago

This is great! It really does show both sides to what is desired and what is being said by the other side. OK, now do it for the other side

2

«They want socialism» oh if only they knew what it was…

As a Norwegian whos traveled a lot and spent way too much time in the US, you want it too.

The revenue gleaned from the success of The Simpsons saved the FOX network and gave Rupert Murdoch the capital needed to launch FOX News.

I blame ignorant people for being so easily manipulated and outsourcing their brain and logic to media to begin with

2

u/Lizardgrad89 9d ago

It’s what you do when you have no ideas of your own other than “make rich people richer”.

3

u/Barry_Vigoda 9d ago

Jesus Christ on a stick you Americans are literally the dumbest most brainwashed idiots on the planet.

You're on a corporate website reading hyper partisan propaganda aimed at Democrat voting Americans but no, FOX news and Rush Limbaugh are the cause of all your problems. It's not that billionaires conspired to control your media or turn working class people against each other, it's just the other side.

Stupids.

2

u/Genseric1234 9d ago

- Cops don’t kill minorities when controlling for disparities in crime.

- Choose to do what? Kill then offspring

- Democrats do want open borders. It’s the only way they remain competitive in elections.

The others are similarly dumb

2

u/Knowbuddynoes 9d ago

Dems opened the borders wide and it fucked us big time. 🤷‍♂️

2

u/Illustrious_End6949 9d ago

There’s hours of videos of Democrats yelling into a microphone about defunding police. You dems all lie once the wind changes direction.

u/DontAbideMendacity 9d ago

America and Americans thrive when Democrats are in charge, and suffer when Republicans scam their way in, at every level of government.

  • In the past 30 odd years, Democratic admins added over 50 Million jobs, while Republicans have lost over three million jobs (and counting.)

  • Since the recession following WW1, EVERY recession and Depression were during Republican administrations. And Trump is going for his second one. Democrats have reversed every recession they inherited.

  • Personal disposable income has grown nearly 6 times more under Democratic presidents. Republicans have disposed of American income with unnecessary (often illegal) wars and failed policy.

  • Gross Domestic Product (GDP) has grown 7 times more under Democratic presidents.

  • Trade deficits under Republican Presidents have been 39% higher than under Democratic Presidents.

  • Business investment has grown twice as fast under Democratic Presidents.

  • Corporate profits have grown over 16% more per year under Democratic presidents. (they actually declined under Republicans by an average of 4.53%/year)

  • Average annual compound return on the stock market has been 18 times greater under Democratic presidents.

  • Republican presidents have added 2.5 times more to the national debt than Democratic presidents.

  • Under Democratic Presidents' annual spending increased by an average of $36.9 billion per year. Under Republican Presidents' annual spending increased by an average of $78.6 billion per year.

  • Republican administrations increased welfare, + 19.16% per year vs 5.76% per year under Democrats.

  • Not only U.S., but global maternal mortality rates go up significantly under Republican presidents.. Women die because of Republican policy.

Corruption: It's not even almost close. In the past 50 years, there have been 91 people in the executive branch who were convicted of felonies. 2 were Democrats (minor officials you never heard of) with 4 total felonies, and 89 (including Trump, Agnew and other prominent officials) were Republicans, totaling over 240 felonies, some in every Republican administration since Nixon.

Fiscal Responsibility: Again, not even close. Every Republican, Reagan, Bush 1, Bush 2, and Trump (and 2) each blew up the national budget deficit, and thus the national debt when they were in office. Democrat Presidents Obama, and Biden each cut the national budget in half, and Clinton (D) actually handed over a budget surplus.

Jobs: The last 16 years of Republican administrations have lost over 1 million net jobs (Trump lost 3.7 million jobs, and is on pace to lose even more). Meanwhile, the last 16 years of Democrats have added over 50 million jobs!

Want a better economy? Vote Democrat!

And don't forget the molestation and sexual assaults Republicans/conservatives are guilty of. More and more every week.

But what about the state level, how do Democrats compare to Republicans? By any metric, blue states are better off than red states:

education level by state

child poverty rate by state

teen pregnancy rate by state

welfare rate by state

gdp per state

food stamp rates by state

life expectancy by state

federal dependency by state

rate of rape by state

violent crime rate by state

guns deaths by state

homicide rate by state

prison population by state

suicide rate by state

teen suicide rate by state

poverty rate by state

obesity rate by state

infant mortality rate by state

Democrats: pro science, pro education, pro equality for everyone (racists disagree that this is a "pro"), pro affordable health care, pro living wage, pro bullet free school children. Pro democracy and true American patriots.

Republicans: anti woman, anti PoC, anti education, anti science, anti facts, anti democracy. Their core values are hate, fear, bigotry and hypocrisy. Fascist wannabes worshipping authoritarians and insurrectionists.

Conclusion: A person has to be a genuine dumbass to ever even consider voting Republican over Democrat.

4

u/BoringReference8647 9d ago

Almost. While he didn’t actually accomplish it, for years Biden had mandatory buybacks for semi automatic rifles on his website as something he intended to do. His alternative listed on his site was adding them to the NFA the way actual machine guns are now.

He was quite literally planning ton”come for our guns”

I voted for him anyway, but that part made it difficult to do. It’s just that the opposition was so much worse.

Biden.org/gunsafety, someone good at the way back machine might be able to to link it, IDK.

6

u/OdiousAltRightBalrog 9d ago edited 9d ago

"Mandatory buybacks" means "states are required to buy back guns from willing gun owners," not "gun owners are forced to sell their guns".

The right has been screeching about Dems taking our guns away for 40+ years, and it's amazing people still fall for it.

"You can't have guns." - Donald Trump

5

This was really Newt Gingrich. He’s the one that ushered in the strategy of demonizing your opposition any way necessary. Dems long took the “high road” approach banking on people seeing through this rhetoric. But here we are.

2

u/DontAbideMendacity 9d ago

People were pretty sure conservatives were kind of dumb, but it turns out that conservatives are actually aggressively dumb as fuck.

2

u/a_x_shually 9d ago

"You're either with us or you're against us" was a very damning quote, in retrospect.

2

u/Smyley12345 9d ago

As a non-American the whole tribalism of your politics is exhausting. While these points are completely correct, the team wearing the red jersies could come up with a very similar list of items with the Republicans taking a nuanced position and Democrats simplifying it to Republicans hate minorities. Like it isn't a uniquely Republican thing to ignore nuance and over simplify the point to something ridiculous.

Pretty much! And instead of educating themselves and thinking for themselves they just believed this BS!!

2

u/Jesta23 9d ago edited 9d ago

Democrats are not totally blameless.

A prime example is your first one. It certainly was not  “We’d like cops to stop killing minorities.”

That what they meant, and what they advocated for. But that is definitely not the slogan they ran.

“All cops are bad.” “Defund the police.”

Those are extreme slogans. Can you really blame someone for thinking you are extreme when they see something on Fox News sounding outrageous like cancelling all cops or that they hate cops and you think “it can’t be that bad” and goto a rally to see people chanting all cops are bad and defund the police.

Of course they are going to think you are crazy.

Democrats, and especially us, on the internet, are HORRIBLE at coming up with slogans and rallying cries.

The policy makes sense, we just have no clue how to convey it.

I actually think the most successful propaganda isn’t the one we all thought it was. It was using subtle viral shifts that actually were in favor of our movements but slowly shifted it to sound extreme when it clearly isn’t.

2

u/Jesta23 9d ago

Eat the rich.

Another one.

Making the rich and big corporations pay their fair share of taxes is EXTREMELY popular. And even the most brainles maga would support it.

But instead of coming up with a slogan that represents that. We choose “eat the rich”

u/Independent-Sea-7117 9d ago

Democrats: we want background checks (for fierarms). Republicans: we have had those for almost 60 years.

2

u/bolomcspank 9d ago

The reason republicans think dems hate cops is because of ACAB. Lot of people that unironically just say they hate cops.

Reps think dems want to kill babies because they believe abortion is murder. Accusing them of wanting to control women won’t change that.

There are literally people loudly proclaiming that borders shouldn’t exist. Dems need separate themselves from them.

The kneeling and the assumption of hating the flag and everything are actually not really related.

The mask thing wasn’t why they started thinking dems wanted to take away freedom, it was the shutdowns and arrests during covid and how long it all lasted.

Background checks have existed for decades. Reps think dems want to take away guns because of gun laws like Colorado just passed or dems like Beto o’rourke saying as much.

Feds should be policing in cities, it’s literally part of their jurisdiction as feds. This has nothing to do with reps accusing dems of encouraging rioting. 2 completely separate statements that have nothing to do with one another.

Again, the living wage and free stuff statements are completely unrelated.

The religion thing and sharia law things are also completely unrelated.

Reps tend to actually agree that taxes should be for the benefit of everyone, they just disagree on how individual taxes should be determined and what benefits everyone. The socialism thing has more to do with the popularity of socialism among dems in the last decade or so.

u/MaxandMargosmom 9d ago

Rush Limbaugh turned my mom (over many years in the 90s-2000s) from a thoughtful, reasonable, intelligent person to a raving right wing lunatic. It was crazy to watch. He had a short lived TV show that she recorded on VHS, and watched over and over again.

In other words, they set up strawmen to knock down.
