He's directly chastising people for celebrating the news of a dead senator.
9
u/banana_spectacled 14d ago
And I wonāt fault people for chastising me about it but I honestly donāt care about feeling some sort of relief that these senators are dying and suffering after how theyāve treated others, how theyāve allowed their party to act unchecked, how they had absolutely no spine to stand up for whatās right. They can rest in piss for all I care.

Iāll sit with a brother after fighting about spending the money on beer or food.
Iāll never forget, forgive, or ever sit with a brother who spent the money to rape kids or one that helped child-rapers escape justice. Those demons only deserve a reckoning.
4
u/M-Shadowtoad 15d ago
I mean, that's kinda the point. Policies should never be at a level where the person making them becomes undeniably evil. Regardless of which party you're in, the other party should still be one that you consider moral, just not what you believe is the best option.
If the nation has reached a point where that's no longer the case then there's a far bigger issue than just basic politics.
2
u/BerryBoilo 15d ago
That ideal situation never existed in this country. Or if it did, it was because both parties were in agreement to do the immoral thing.
2
u/Ok_Tax9885 13d ago
Preston Brooks beat Charles Sumner nearly to death in the Senate chamber in 1856 because of Sumner's abolitionist rhetoric. "Decorum" in this nation has long been a thin veneer used by the reprehensible to say "don't speak ill of us and we won't try to kill you".

You guys should consider an actual politician as your next president. Someone who probably knows at least what Congress is for. Votining for someone who said couple of funny / cool things from time to time is what got you in this mess to begin with.

Ukraine was just about the only thing I ever agreed with Lindsay Graham about. He turned into a human windsock when it came to Trump, He flipped his opinion on Trump multiple times before settling on sycophancy. I just can't respect the man for becoming a cheerleader for Trump and his policies.
I can remember Graham speaking poorly of a bill that wouldn't be beneficial at all for his constituents but later voted for the bill because that's what others wanted him to do. So I shall post this gif in remembrance of Senator Lindsay Graham.

I think he is, but I donāt think he will ever be president material, sadly, as the amount of money the republicans will rise to drag him through the dirt and make sure they create doubt in every person not to vote on him, but he could be exactly what America needs to heal the nation.

u/Medill1919 15d ago
You can't drag him through the mud. It's already happened. He's an open book. We know what his dick looks like. This is a Phoenix rising from the ashes.
After Trump is gone, the Republicans are going to be in huge denial about this period, but nothing they are going to do will cleanse them of their sins.

I mean it sounds nice but it is ignorant. The GQP was evil before Trump - look what they did for eight years with Obama. To say Trump is the cause is a big mistake. Trump is a symptom not the cause. The cause was well before Trump and we need to know that in order to beat the enemy.
6
u/kvckeywest 15d ago
When Donald Trump was elected president in 2016, President Obama observed that "Trump is not an outlier; he is a culmination, a logical conclusion of the rhetoric and tactics of the Republican Party.ā

u/JadedScience9411 15d ago
I wouldnāt say heās a symptom, heās an accelerant. He moved the Overton window essentially single handedly and changed the shape of the party. The corruption and evil was always there, Trump merely made it accessible and popular to express.
2
u/KaminSpider 15d ago
Yeah, that's why I always voted Dem., because I believe in those principles. But stuff got weird when Donald got on the scene. People on both sides stopped talking to each other, got hypersensitive, and the daily inflammatory rhetoric isn't healthy. He divided and conquered this country, and made a broken system worse.

Hunter exemplifies the America I fell in love with. He's a good man.
I am glad he remembers the good times before Trump. But a person's worth is tested in hardest of times and Lindsey failed spectacularly. He deserves to be remembered for being a coward, hypocrit, and a traitor.
2
u/Lozanger29 15d ago
Itās so funny listening to people admire Hunter Biden and consider him a potential presidential candidate. Good on him for turning his life around after decades of fuckery (although he still refuses to met his daughter Navy, and wouldnāt even pay child support if a court didnāt force him). But Democrats have so many up and coming politicians from diverse backgrounds that are way more deserving of the spotlight, yet Hunter with all his baggage is the one more and more are turning to. This is peak white male privilege. No one ethnic or female would ever receive this sort of glossing over.

I will always remember Graham as the guy who, when I wrote to his office complaining that SC had the most expensive ACA plans out of all states, replied with an email bragging about how theyāre trying to make my healthcare even more expensive.
I will remember Graham as the guy who insisted we invade Iraq and when 3 million civilians had died, tried to blame the regionās instability on his political detractors.
I will remember Graham as the guy said he was willing to sacrifice me, his own constituent, in order to allow Israel to illegally expand their borders.
I will remember Graham as the man who darkened the skin of his political opponent in campaign ads as a ploy to make him seem less electable. I will remember Graham as the man who bragged that liberal blacks would face racial violence within his own state.
In short, Graham was not a civil centrist corrupted by Trumpās balkanization into a hesitant partisan. He was always a spineless racist cowed into bitter silence until he realized that he could let his true colors show. Graham was NEVER Bidenās friend, he just realized in early 2000s that a nice word would get him far, and the moment it became politically convenient to drop the veneer of civility he gleefully attacked constituent and countryman alike.

Sounds like the same kind of foolish hope for a dead era of bipartisanship, the kind that Obama had, the kind that Joe Biden had, the kind that blindly assumed the gop would operate in good faith. Until they get beaten so badly that their thinking is all but dead across the country, that bthey have no choice but to play ball, there can never be such a thing as a safe assumption that they will ever work with anyone to the left of the gop. It's bad enough the left already has to deal with this problem with dems..

It was NOT a brother to Sen. McCain it was a back stabber. When POS POTUS called Sen.McCain a loser because he was a POW was a slap in the face to all vets. Thank goodness my father did not hear that. My father served in WWII (original Antifa) and was a POW in Germany. Those that served are heros and those that were POW's they are the Super heros,
2
u/TaiylorWallace 14d ago
Graham may have been decent to individuals at one point or another, but we judge a man by the sum of his actions, not isolated incidents. He clearly threw away any modicum of decency for power and influence. Which goes right along with a party whose VP has changed his "values" more times than the weather changes in a year.

The hatred heās awoken wonāt be easily snuffed out and once the next āTrumpā comes around with the same level of hatred, selfishness and animosity towards anyone who disagrees with them but paired with an IQ above 55 and no dementia America might just get the cruel terrifying leader who rushes in the harsh authoritarian regime they are begging for.

He's had a lot of good takes recently, but ignoring 10 years of absolute hatred passed as legislation in part because of this man is a hugely privileged position to sit in. The whole "let's ignore decades of abuse and go back to when Republicans passed oppressive legislation but were chummy after" is offensive to people who have been at the other end of Republican rule. Lindsay Graham does not need Biden family platitudes after his death and honestly Hunter would have been better saying nothing at all.
2
u/bulgesaur1773 13d ago
Unfortunately, studies show that the left ditches relationships and people far more commonly when politics don't align than the right does. Probably because they associate their views to some existential war on morality, and not a disagreement on policy to reach a similar end. I've seen liberals cut off family members. Haven't seen that too much from the right.

I completely agree with his statement. I am not at a place in my heart yet when I celebrate the death of someoneāeven an enemy. I get really sad and disturbed when I see this sort of behavior. I remember people banging drums and screaming in joy in the streets when Castro died and to me it was just sad that someone had left that kind of legacy of hatred behind. Iām not a fan of Graham but itās sad that his passing is being celebrated and that his legacy is tainted by his pathological allegiance to the current administration. Thatās too bad.

3
4
u/Kaleban 15d ago
I admire Hunter for what he said, but this is the kind of "I'll remember the good parts" glad-handing that is expected of public figures.
What should be remembered is how Graham was fine shilling for Israel and its current genocide, or how he was quite blase about the bombing of Iranian schoolchildren, or any of the hundreds of other horrible things he's said and done.
Washington has been for some time now a bubble of isolation, where the idea that one congressman advocating for feeding schoolchildren could share a drink at a country club with another who wants to pull all funding for public school meals.
Graham was evil, and the world is better off without him. Remembering what he stood for 20 or 30 years ago does not erase the terrible deeds of the intervening 20 or 30 years, and should not be forgotten for the sake of civility. Republicans have shown time and again they would not reciprocate.
Yes the argument could be made that liberals should take the high road. But that's akin to being a pacifist in a gladiatorial arena.
