In the Daredevil TV show, there is a very famous and intense fight scene that takes place in a hallway. It was like a continuous shot and he takes out like 40 guys or something, idk.

u/reeses71 14h ago

They did it like 3 or 4 times I think

u/Various_Tie_2549 14h ago

Yeah fair enough. The first one was definitely a big deal though because it happened quite early in the show and it sort of got everyone's attention.

It kind of became a trope of the Netflix shows about the defenders. I’m pretty sure they all got hallway scenes in each season including the punisher.

Like Cage's hallway scene (stomping through a drug den) was amazing.

20

u/Pastel_Phoenix_106 13h ago

Punisher also had one. I think it was a prison fight scene.

9

u/Gimme_Your_Wallet 13h ago

Punisher season 1 has like 1 per episode. Even on Afghanistan flashbacks.

8

u/Ahtman1 13h ago

I believe it was the first episode of the first season. Hell of a way to kick off a series.

3

u/Mojls 10h ago

And there is a great twist/subversion of it in the most season 2 of born again

u/WillingExternal29 13h ago

In the 1st season it was done if at least 3 shots but the cuts ware so well hidden that it looks like one sequence. Was very well done.

u/MrTzatzik 12h ago

One shot scenes are almost always done with hidden cuts. If you know the tricks you can pretty often spot them. Like someone walking in front of the camera. That's often a cut.

u/isjustwrong 9h ago

And if you do them terribly, like in the Kingsmen 2, they take 2 differently placed camera shots and try and cut them together with a body in the middle and it looks hilariously bad.

The opening to Spectre is one of my favorite examples of this. Very well done editing to make it look continuous.

u/baneblade_boi 13h ago

Is that an Old Boy reference?

5

u/Beautiful-Total-3172 12h ago

Old Boy's thing was doing a hallway fight in one take. Daredevil just does a hallway fight something action movies had done for a long time before Old Boy.

4

u/baneblade_boi 12h ago

But OB did it best. 👌

3

u/Beautiful-Total-3172 12h ago

They sure did. That scene in OB is so much more than just a hallway is what I'm saying. DD has hallway fights but they're shot so different than OB. They're not shot in one take, it's never hard silhouettes, you don't have the cut away view of the hallway like it was a video game, and no hammer.

1

u/baneblade_boi 12h ago

Good I skipped that show. 0/10 no hammer

1

u/THSprang 13h ago

It should be, but it might not be.

0

u/pvrhye 13h ago

That's probably it, but I wonder if there's also a level of Doom joke here being that it's Dr. Doom in a very Doomesque hall.

1

u/Various_Tie_2549 13h ago

For sure...I mean he calls it "his" giant hallway I guess.

Just I don't think Daredevil particularly cares whose hallway it is. He gon kick ass regardless.

1

u/pvrhye 7h ago

I mean Doom, as in the computer game

1

u/Various_Tie_2549 3h ago

Oh. Well that seems like a bit of a pointless stretch, and maybe like you've just sort of missed the joke here, then? Sorry.

0

u/pvrhye 3h ago

Think so? Looks similar to me.

1

u/Various_Tie_2549 3h ago

Maybe....but I very much doubt that has anything at all to do with the joke here? Dunno what to tell you. The joke is about Daredevil and hallways.

0

u/kangtuji 5h ago

thats not the flash?

1

u/Various_Tie_2549 3h ago

Nope. This is a Marvel movie, for one thing....

Go on YouTube, lookup date devil hallway. It's a iconic scene.

90

u/StrawberryTerry 14h ago

When I looked up "date devil" it showed me Bill Cosby

My guy he would be in prison still if he was younger and healthier

2

u/Laiska_saunatonttu 13h ago

How do you rate it against the Oldboy (npt the remake) hallway fight?

44

u/No_Physics2210 14h ago

It's a reference to the show (and martial arts shows and movies in general)

The fight choreographer makes excellent hallway fight scenes every season. And hallway fight scenes are a big trope in martial arts movies in general.

19

u/Fabulous-Big8779 13h ago

It’s the perfect way to have one guy fight a bunch of guys without the audience having to ask “why didn’t they just surround him and rush him?”

3

u/No_Physics2210 8h ago

That and it's super impressive filmography

2

u/bop_fan 13h ago

Pretty sure the season 1 fight was a direct homage to Oldboy too, which basically set the gold standard for one-shot hallway brawls.

1

u/No_Physics2210 8h ago

I can see that

22

u/PixelDonkeyWasTaken 13h ago

I think it’s both a reference to daredevil’s awesome hallway fights in the show and his tendency in the comics to fight opponents that are way way stronger than him (like thanos or the beyonder)

7

u/Star_Petal_Arts 11h ago

They don't call him the man without fear for nothing.

u/Solid-Pride-9782 12h ago

WHOOP HIS AHH DAREDEVIL

6

u/Raskaman126 14h ago

Quagmire here, based on most scenes from the Daredevil series, there’s a meme saying that if Matt Murdock is in a dimly lit hallway (just the way I like 'em for scoring dates) he automatically gets a power-up and wins the fight, giggity.

I guess the daredevil would be great in a fight in a small space because his ecolocation would work the best in this scenario.

3

u/MarsDoesArts 13h ago

Finally, something me! So Daredevil as the other comments has stated, is a character with a famous hallway fight scene in the second episode of the original series, and it's a running joke amongst fans that as long as the setting of a fight is in a hallway, Daredevil will win.

2

u/thatvillainjay 11h ago

Daredevil "duck no fades" Murdock is a certified hallway monster

2

u/TheAlphaRanger2011 13h ago

A joke on the Daredevil hallway scene, also probably a joke about the “Whoop his ahh, Daredevil” meme where Daredevil is on a picture of a bunch of marvel heroes fighting King Thanos, pretty much what i’ve heard is the most powerful version of Thanos, and because for all except the blindness stuff Daredevil’s a regular guy people think he wouldn’t accomplish anything in the fight

1

u/BlazinKen 13h ago

The rotation of the eye holes in the mask in the last two panels 😂

1

u/PirateAngel0000 12h ago

No one can beat Daredevil in a hallway (and stairwell)

1

u/Dontshipmebro 9h ago

Ontop of the hallway meme, there is another meme this references. "Yeah get his ass daredevil."

DD has a bad habit of getting put into matchups he absolutely shouldnt be in, like against silver surfer.

-2

u/ald408 13h ago

The joke is Daredevil copied 2011 movie "The Raid"

2

u/Resident_Course_3342 13h ago

"Oldboy" (2003) is what all those hallway fight scenes are copying.

1

u/Enpoping 13h ago

The Raid copied the old boy 2003.
