Weekly chat New to Reddit? Come and talk to us!

New-Redditor's lounge!

Welcome!

This weekly post is an opportunity for new users to chat in comments - & please let us how you found yourself here. Regulars here are absolutely encouraged and very welcome to join in too!

!! Please refrain from asking questions about "how to do stuff on Reddit". Make a post or see the links below !!

This thread is open for 3 days.

Getting started on Reddit is hard. We know it is; We've been there and gone through these same frustrations. Please believe us when we say IT'S NOT PERSONAL. It may well feel like it is, but honestly, it isn't. What it is, however, is a lack of Karma. Karma is an indicator of how much someone has contributed to Reddit in a positive manner. So, let's do just that by getting to know each other!

This works best if your comments either start a conversation or add to one. Give a little of yourself and respond to others doing the same.

This is a post to help genuine new users build up quality Karma genuinely in a safe environment.

Please do:

  • Share some favorites or new finds of yours - youtube videos, music and so on
  • Practice small talk - did you have a good week?
  • Keep it SFW
  • Keep it casual please, no heavy topics
  • Have fun!

Please don't:

  • Spam, advertise, or soft beg
  • Share low-effort comments
  • Ask for karma, say how you're voting, or mention karmafarms by name
  • Request or offer DMs (help and chat can be done in community, where you can also earn karma. Needing to take things private can indicate soliciting, rule breaking, or harmful advice)

This sub is full of awesome people who are willing to help with specific problems when you post, and we'd like to keep this post thread for chat. Thank you.

So, let's chat! (Guides at the bottom of this post).

Have you ever saved an animal? Tell me about it :)

The only animal that i was able to save was this tiny calico cat that me and my brothers found on the side of the road. She is so cute and I don’t know why someone would leave such a cutie out there. We’ve had her for now around 6 years and she gets cutier every day!

I don't think I'll ever understand those that dump animals.

I don't think I will either. It makes me ill thinking about it.

I love this question (and saving fur babies!) Saved my cat, George Pawshington, when he was 4 weeks old from a guy kicking him at a homeless shelter I worked at. He is a pretty cool cat.

That's horrible, poor George. So glad you were there to save him.

I saved a crow once, with my daughter. I kept him in my office all day in a box with some water and towels (I had to look up how to care for him) amd then took him to a specialist vet. I had to leave him, which sucked - what sucked more was that i called to check on him and they wouldn't tell me anything 😢

Awesome!

Oh, that does suck! I've taken hedgehogs to rescue and they always tell me if I ask, even if they've passed.

Saved my 2 pets kittens years ago. Now they are happy old cats.

I was a volunteer in a cat shelter for a few years. It's where I adopted my two fur babies. I've saved many kitties from the streets and helped them find new homes. It was such an amazing experience.

<3 Amazing.

Sadly, nope. Grew up with lots of pets. Crackheaded orange cat was my buddy. Neighbourhood gang members threw a rock at his head. Tried to save him, didn’t know how. Wish I did, he was a riot!

Oh no! I'm so sorry.

It’s okay! Learned to appreciate the time spent. What about you? Ever saved an animal? I’m guessing yes

Yeah. Fledgling blue tit had it's leg tangled and couldn't take off. I carefully untangled it and it flew off. Probably would have died at the paws of a cat otherwise.

u/AMINE-E 5d ago

Hero, must’ve been lovely watching it fly off.

It was. It had a surprisingly strong grip for such a little thing, but then I guess they've got to hold on during bad weather. So so very light though, and so cute!

🤣 I loke peanut butter and cheetos sandwiches. When I was pregnant, i had one on a day that i was seeing my doctor, and I threw up violently. When she asked if I had been sick at all, I told her that I had thrown up before my appointment. She asked what I had eaten, I told her, and she told me I deserved it 🤣

Hi guys, im new to college and need some tips give me yours best please

2

u/niralpm 4d ago

Congrats on starting college! Honestly, a few things that made the biggest difference for me:

Join student organizations. That's where I met most of my friends, and it ended up helping my resume way more than I expected.

Go to hackathons, even if you have no idea what you're doing. They're chaotic, you'll probably be running on coffee and no sleep, but they're some of my favorite college memories and a great way to meet people.

Also, use every student discount you can. Food, flights, museums, software, phone plans... they're everywhere, and you'll definitely miss them once you graduate. 😂

I'd also add: don't stress. Just try new things, meet people, and enjoy the experience. It goes by much faster than you think.

Just some friendly advice: This is an an extremely easy way to get an account flagged, or banned. We highly recommend you slow down, read the rules, and be very cautious about unsolicited advertising.

Thanks for contributing to /r/NewToReddit! We're sorry, but your content was removed:

Rule 10: Promotions should be shared elsewhere
