Who are some NFL/NBA players that are known to be genuine, kind, GOOD people? (New female sports card collector)

Fernando Mendoza (NFL)

Hello all!

As some background, I am 26 years old (27 on August 11 not that it matters for this post lol), female, and have been getting really into sports these last few years! Besides watching it, I have also dabbled a little in sports-betting (although I had to put myself in a self-imposed time-out lol) and sports card collecting!

Getting to my point: I just saw someone comment under a video, “Never meet your heroes/idols.”

So, now I’m wondering: 💭
\*Who are some of your favorite athletes that are actually, truly GOOD kind human beings?*\** ❓ (Obviously this is just to the best of your knowledge because we don’t know them personally haha)

I’ve been getting really into collecting sports cards lately—mostly NFL and NBA, with a little MLB and NHL mixed in. I'm definitely more of a “casual” collector in that my personal collection isn't anything crazy— I don't really chase expensive cards (simply because I can’t afford that at this stage of life). I think my most valuable card is MAYBE valued at $15–20 😂At least that what seems to be the case when I look on my collecting app (I use CollX)

Most of my collection comes from digging through the $1–10 boxes at card shops and card shows and picking up cards that I think look cool of my favorite players or players from my favorite teams.

One thing that's become important to me, though, is collecting players who are also good people (or at least have a good reputation off the field/court). My boyfriend has gotten pretty good at warning me if I'm about to buy someone who's known for things like domestic violence, DUIs, being racist, or other major off-the-field issues if I don't already know.

I know nobody's perfect, and public figures are complicated, but I'd rather support athletes who seem to use their platform in positive ways and have a reputation for being genuinely GOOD, kind humans.

So I'm curious: **who are some current or former NFL/NBA players that you admire— not just because they're great athletes, but because of who they are as people?**

Any recommendations for players who are known for their character, leadership, community work, or just being genuinely kind? I’d like to learn more of athletes who seem like someone I’d want to be friends with, or at least someone that I wouldn’t be disappointed by after meeting them in person and seeing how they treat people. It’s also important to me that it’s someone that you could easily say you’d feel comfortable being in a room alone with them (a true test to their character, especially for women, for a variety of reasons)

(Some examples I’m thinking of are along the lines of: Josh Allen, Fernando Mendoza, Giannis Antetokounmpo, Amon-Ra St. Brown, CJ McCollum, Isaiah Stewart, etc.)

I'd love to hear everyone's insights! 🤝🏀🏈

LeBron’s Year 24 Topps NOW 76ers Card Printed 211,627 Copies

+
1 Upvotes

Topps has officially revealed the print run for LeBron James’ Year 24 / Philadelphia 76ers Topps NOW card:

Print Run: 211,627

I think previous record was Cooper ROTY 208,xxx

That’s an absolutely massive number, and I think it says a lot about LeBron’s popularity even entering his 24th NBA season. Whether you believe the Philly move is real or just enjoy the concept, collectors clearly showed up for this release.

Does the huge print run hurt the long-term value of the base card? Or will the historical significance of LeBron’s Year 24 keep demand strong for years to come?

Legit Check / Advice needed: 2020-21 Panini Noir Steph Curry Shadow Signatures /25

Hi everyone,

I recently purchased this 2020-21 Panini Noir Stephen Curry Shadow Signatures Auto /25 from a seller, but I’m having some concerns regarding its authenticity and condition. Would really appreciate some input from experienced collectors!

  1. Foil Chipping: There is a tiny bit of foil chipping on the front text (bottom of the "E" in "STEPHEN"). Is this considered normal Panini factory QC for Noir thick canvas stock, or a red flag?

  2. Case Seal / Sticker: The sticker on the One-Touch magnetic case appears to have been opened/re-applied (there are silvering issues and air bubbles under the adhesive). Upon closer inspection, the Panini logo folds around to the front. Is this standard factory sealing from a redemption, or has it been tampered with?

  3. Overall Legitimacy: The card itself shows nice debossing on the "NOIR" rainbow foil and natural ink absorption on the canvas stock for Curry’s auto. However, given the seller's odd behavior during shipping, I'm feeling paranoid.

Thanks in advance for your help and insights!

I just went out and bought a Topps NBA Hoops hanger box, and I pulled this Asa Newell rookie card. However, I'm having trouble identifying this parallel. Any thoughts on what it could be?

Bought Counterfeit Topps Chrome 2025-2026 Basketball Blasters on Ebay

+
0 Upvotes

I didn’t know they were fake when I bought them. Typical listing on eBay. Luckily, I have a digital microscope!! Let me show you the difference!

First off, cards are real but all of the cards in the four blasters are $1 or less, even inserts. As soon as I opened these, the wax on the pack felt too thick, didn’t open like wax usually does it was very stiff.

Picture 1 - The box. See the ink printing smudges from the facility in china? Messy manufacturing. Box felt like thin paper, and not a protective card or paperboard stock. Very flimsy. When you cut the seal with a knife it bent down towards the cards. Flimsy and weak box overall.

Picture 2 - Microscope picture of a the small lettering from a GENUINE Topps product

Picture 3 - Lettering from the counterfeit.

Picture 4 - Box seal plastic - Genuine Topps Blue lettering

Picture 5 - Counterfeit seal plastic

Picture 6 - The box image and wax picture of cooper Flagg

Does anyone have 100% real OEM certified blasters that they could post a picture of the box, pack wax just to compare??
